Abstract

Using the nonperturbative functional renormalization group (FRG) within the Blaizot-M\'endez-Galain-Wschebor approximation, we compute the operator product expansion (OPE) coefficient $c_{112}$ associated with the operators $\mathcal{O}_1\sim\varphi$ and $\mathcal{O}_2\sim\varphi^2$ in the three-dimensional $\mathrm{O}(N)$ universality class and in the Ising universality class ($N=1$) in dimensions $2 \leq d \leq 4$. When available, exact results and estimates from the conformal bootstrap and Monte-Carlo simulations compare extremely well to our results, while FRG is able to provide values across the whole range of $d$ and $N$ considered.

Conformal perturbation of off-critical correlators in the 3D Ising universality class

Michele Caselle, Gianluca Costagliola, Nicodemo Magnoli

Thanks to the impressive progress of conformal bootstrap methods we have now very precise estimates of both scaling dimensions and operator product expansion coefficients for several 3D universality classes. We show how to use this information to obtain similarly precise estimates for off-critical correlators using conformal perturbation. We discuss in particular the $⟨\ensuremath{\sigma}(r)\ensuremath{\sigma}(0)⟩$, $⟨\ensuremath{\epsilon}(r)\ensuremath{\epsilon}(0)⟩$ and $⟨\ensuremath{\sigma}(r)\ensuremath{\epsilon}(0)⟩$ two-point functions in the high and low temperature regimes of the 3D Ising model and evaluate the leading and next to leading terms in the $s={\mathrm{tr}}^{{\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Delta}}}_{t}}$ expansion, where $t$ is the reduced temperature. Our results for $⟨\ensuremath{\sigma}(r)\ensuremath{\sigma}(0)⟩$ agree both with Monte Carlo simulations and with a set of experimental estimates of the critical scattering function.

Boundary operator product expansion coefficients of the three-dimensional Ising universality class

Dorian Przetakiewicz, Stefan Weßel, Francesco Parisen Toldin

Recent advances in conformal field theory and critical phenomena have focused on the characterization of boundary or defects in a conformally invariant system. In this Letter, we study the critical behavior of the three-dimensional Ising universality class in the presence of a surface, realizing the ordinary, the special, and the normal universality classes. By combining high-precision Monte Carlo simulations of an improved model, where leading scaling corrections are suppressed, with a finite-size scaling analysis informed by conformal field theory, we determine unbiased, accurate estimates of universal boundary operator product expansion coefficients of experimental relevance. Furthermore, we improve the value of the scaling dimension of the surface field at the special transition by the estimate Δ ̂ σ = 0.3531 ( 3 ) .

Nonperturbative renormalization group preserving full-momentum dependence: Implementation and quantitative evaluation

Federico Benitez, Jean-Paul Blaizot, Hugues Chaté +3 more

We present the implementation of the Blaizot-Méndez-Wschebor approximation scheme of the nonperturbative renormalization group we present in detail, which allows for the computation of the full-momentum dependence of correlation functions. We discuss its significance and its relation with other schemes, in particular, the derivative expansion. Quantitative results are presented for the test ground of scalar O(N) theories. Besides critical exponents, which are zero-momentum quantities, we compute the two-point function at criticality in the whole momentum range in three dimensions and, in the high-temperature phase, the universal structure factor. In all cases, we find very good agreement with the best existing results.

Ising exponents from the functional renormalization group

Daniel F. Litim, Dario Zappalà

We study the 3d Ising universality class using the functional renormalization group. With the help of background fields and a derivative expansion up to fourth order we compute the leading index, the subleading symmetric and antisymmetric corrections to scaling, the anomalous dimension, the scaling solution, and the eigenperturbations at criticality. We also study the cross correlations of scaling exponents, their dependence on dimensionality, and the numerical convergence of the derivative expansion. Collecting all available data from functional renormalization group studies to date, we estimate that systematic errors are in good agreement with findings from Monte Carlo simulations, $ϵ$-expansion techniques, and resummed perturbation theory.

Operator product expansion coefficients of the 3D Ising model with a trapping potential

Gianluca Costagliola

Recently the operator product expansion coefficients of the 3D Ising model universality class have been calculated by studying via Monte Carlo simulation the two-point functions perturbed from the critical point with a relevant field. We show that this method can be applied also when the perturbation is performed with a relevant field coupled to a nonuniform potential acting as a trap. This setting is described by the trap size scaling ansatz, which can be combined with the general framework of the conformal perturbation in order to write down the correlators $⟨\ensuremath{\sigma}(\mathbf{r})\ensuremath{\sigma}(0)⟩$, $⟨\ensuremath{\sigma}(\mathbf{r})\ensuremath{\epsilon}(0)⟩$ and $⟨\ensuremath{\epsilon}(\mathbf{r})\ensuremath{\epsilon}(0)⟩$, from which the operator product expansion coefficients can be estimated. We find ${C}_{\ensuremath{\sigma}\ensuremath{\epsilon}}^{\ensuremath{\sigma}}=1.051(3)$, in agreement with the results already known in the literature, and ${C}_{\ensuremath{\epsilon}\ensuremath{\epsilon}}^{\ensuremath{\epsilon}}=1.32(15)$, confirming and improving the previous estimate obtained in the uniform perturbation case.

OPE convergence in non-relativistic conformal field theories

Walter D. Goldberger, Zuhair U. Khandker, Siddharth G. Prabhu

Motivated by applications to the study of ultracold atomic gases near the unitarity limit, we investigate the structure of the operator product expansion (OPE) in non-relativistic conformal field theories (NRCFTs). The main tool used in our analysis is the representation theory of charged (i.e. non-zero particle number) operators in the NR-CFT, in particular the mapping between operators and states in a non-relativistic “radial quantization” Hilbert space. Our results include: a determination of the OPE coefficients of descendant operators in terms of those of the underlying primary state, a demonstration of convergence of the (imaginary time) OPE in certain kinematic limits, and an estimate of the decay rate of the OPE tail inside matrix elements which, as in relativistic CFTs, depends exponentially on operator dimensions. To illustrate our results we consider several examples, including a strongly interacting field theory of bosons tuned to the unitarity limit, as well as a class of holographic models. Given the similarity with known statements about the OPE in SO(2, d) invariant field theories, our results suggest the existence of a bootstrap approach to constraining NRCFTs, with applications to bound state spectra and interactions. We briefly comment on a possible implementation of this non-relativistic conformal bootstrap program.
