Abstract

We use the two mode approximation for a interacting one-dimensional spinless soft core bosons and one half spin fermions in a double-well potential with a large central barrier. We include all the on-site boson-boson, fermion-fermion and boson-fermion repulsive contact potential represented by delta-function and considered bosonic and fermionic isotopes of ytterbium(Yb) $^{170}Yb$ and $^{171}Yb$ respectively. By means of the approximation, we find that in the regime $U_{BF}>U_{BB}$ give rise to a immiscible phase and in the regime $U_{BB}\geq U_{BF}$ give rise to a miscible phase, that is characterized by a temporal overlap of the bosonic and fermionic probability densities. We also report that due to the Bose-Fermi interaction, the system presents an apparent destruction of the collapse-revival oscillation of boson density probability at least in the ranges investigated.

We include all the on-site boson-boson, fermion-fermion and boson-fermion repulsive contact potential represented by delta-function and considered bosonic and fermionic isotopes of ytterbium(Yb) 170 Yb and 171 Yb respectively. Fermionization of a strongly interacting Bose-Fermi mixture in a one-dimensional harmonic trap

Bess Fang, Patrizia Vignolo, Christian Miniatura +1 more

We consider a strongly interacting one-dimensional (1D) Bose-Fermi mixture confined in a harmonic trap. It consists of a Tonks-Girardeau (TG) gas (1D Bose gas with repulsive hard-core interactions) and of a noninteracting Fermi gas (1D spin-aligned Fermi gas), both species interacting through hard-core repulsive interactions. Using a generalized Bose-Fermi mapping, we determine the one-body density matrices, exact particle density profiles, momentum distributions, and behavior of the mixture under 1D expansion when opening the trap. In real space, bosons and fermions do not display any phase separation: the respective density profiles extend over the same region and they both present a number of peaks equal to the total number of particles in the trap. In momentum space the bosonic component has the typical narrow TG profile, while the fermionic component shows a broad distribution with fermionic oscillations at small momenta. Due to the large boson-fermion repulsive interactions, both the bosonic and the fermionic momentum distributions decay as $C{p}^{\ensuremath{-}4}$ at large momenta, like in the case of a pure bosonic TG gas. The coefficient $C$ is related to the two-body density matrix and to the bosonic concentration in the mixture. When opening the trap, both momentum distributions ``fermionize'' under expansion and turn into that of a Fermi gas with a particle number equal to the total number of particles in the mixture.

Influence of a static electric field on a one-dimensional Bose-Fermi mixture confined in a double-well potential

Richard Giovanni Avella, J. Nisperuza, JP Rubio +1 more

Abstract In this study, we conducted a detailed investigation into the time evolution of the probability density within a 1D double-well potential hosting a Bose-Fermi mixture. This system comprised spinless bosons and spin one-half fermions with weak repulsive contact interactions. Notably, even at very low effective coupling constants, periodic probabilities were observed, indicating correlated tunneling of both bosons and fermions, leading to complete miscibility, which disappears when an external electric field is turned on. The electric field accentuated fermion-fermion interactions due to the Pauli exclusion principle, altering both boson density and interactions and leading to spatial redistribution of particles. These findings underscore the complex interplay between interactions, external fields, and spatial distributions within confined quantum systems. Our exploration of higher interaction strengths revealed conditions under which probability density functions are decoupled. Furthermore, we observed that increased fermion interaction, driven by the electric field, led to higher tunneling frequencies for both species because of the repulsive nature of the boson-fermion interaction. Conversely, increased boson-boson interaction resulted in complete tunneling of both species, especially when boson density was high, leading to effective fermion repulsion. Expanding our analysis to scenarios involving four bosons demonstrated that higher interaction values corresponded to increased oscillation frequencies in tunneling probabilities. Finally, by manipulating interaction parameters and activating the electric field, we achieved complete tunneling of both species, further increasing oscillation frequencies and resulting in intervals characterized by overlapping probability functions.

Exactly solvable case of a one-dimensional Bose–Fermi mixture

Adilet Imambekov, Eugene Demler

We consider a one-dimensional interacting Bose-Fermi mixture with equal masses of bosons and fermions, and with equal and repulsive interactions between Bose-Fermi and Bose-Bose particles. Such a system can be realized in experiments with ultracold boson and fermion isotopes in optical lattices. We use the Bethe-ansatz technique to find the ground state energy at zero temperature for any value of interaction strength and density ratio between bosons and fermions. We prove that the mixture is always stable against demixing. Combining exact solution with the local density approximation, we calculate density profiles and collective oscillation modes in a harmonic trap. In the strongly interating regime, we use exact wave functions to calculate correlation functions for bosons and fermions under periodic boundary conditions.

Quantum fidelity and Von Neumann entropy of a Bose-Fermi mixture in 1D double well potential

Richard Giovanni Avella, JP Rubio, D. Grajales

Abstract The time evolution of probability density, the ground-state fidelity and the entanglement of a Bose-Fermi mixture in a 1D double well potential, are studied through the two-mode approximation. We found that the behavior of the quantum return probability shows three distinct regions. The first region is characterized by a complete miscibility, and correlated tunneling of bosons and fermion. The second region is characterized by correlated sequential tunneling and in the last region we found an increase in the tunneling frequency of the two species. Through the Von Neumann entropy, we found that the boson-fermion coupling allows a maximum entanglement of quantum correlations of bosons and fermions in the same value. Finally, Considering variations in the interaction between pairs of fermions λ FF , pairs of bosons λ BB , and variations in the interaction between particles of different species λ BF , we calculated the fidelity in the λ FF − λ BF and λ BB − λ BF planes and we found that the drop of the two fidelities becomes deeper and deeper as the boson-fermion interaction decreases.
