Abstract

Quantum hashing is a promising generalization of the cryptographic hashing concept on the quantum domain. In this paper, we construct a quantum hash via a sequence of single-photon states and perform a proof-of-principle experiment using orbital angular momentum (OAM) encoding. We experimentally verify the collision resistance of the quantum hash function depending on the number of qubits in use. Based on these results, we conclude that theoretical estimates are confirmed for different bases of OAM states and the proposed technique can be useful in computational and cryptographic scenarios. The possibility of multiplexing different OAM bases can make this approach even more efficient.

Multiqudit quantum hashing and its implementation based on orbital angular momentum encoding

D O Akat’ev, Alexander Vasiliev, N. M. Shafeev +2 more

Abstract A new version of quantum hashing technique is developed wherein a quantum hash is constructed as a sequence of single-photon high-dimensional states (qudits). A proof-of-principle implementation of the high-dimensional quantum hashing protocol using orbital-angular momentum encoding of single photons is implemented. It is shown that the number of qudits decreases with increase of their dimension for an optimal ratio between collision probability and decoding probability of the hash. Thus, increasing dimension of information carriers makes quantum hashing with single photons more efficient.

Collision Resistance of the OAM-based Quantum Hashing

Alexander Vasiliev

Abstract Recently we have proposed an adapted version of the quantum hash function that minimizes quantum state engineering and experimentally verified the collision resistance of such function. The proposed construction describes a quantum hash as a sequence of single-photon states using orbital angular momentum (OAM) encoding that is a promising platform for optical quantum technologies. In this paper we give an existence proof for parameter sets that will guarantee a very high collision resistance for OAM-based quantum hash function.

Constant-Depth Algorithm for Quantum Hashing

Alexander Vasiliev

Abstract Quantum hashing is one of the techniques that allow to construct space-efficient quantum algorithms and protocols. We present a construction that allows to make it extremely time efficient. Our approach is based on the shallow implementation of the quantum fingerprinting technique but uses additional circuit identities specific to the quantum hash function for the cyclic group. The resulting algorithm is equivalent to the one we have implemented earlier using single-photon states with orbital angular momentum encoding.

Complete measurement and multiplexing of orbital angular momentum Bell states

Ling‐Jun Kong, Yongnan Li, Rui Liu +10 more

Orbital angular momentum (OAM) entanglement states have great potential in enhancing the information capacity in quantum communications. To make full use of the OAM degree of freedom, the measurement and distinction of OAM Bell states become a key step that needs to be accomplished. However, there is still no solution to achieve complete distinction of OAM Bell states at the single-photon level. Here we demonstrate the complete OAM Bell-state measurement without auxiliary photons by using linear optics. Furthermore, we propose a quantum communication network via OAM Bell-state multiplexing, perform a proof-of-principle experiment in the first- and second-order OAM subspaces for two users, and achieve average success probabilities of obtaining information of 91.6% for User-I and 89.1% for User-II. In principle, our scheme allows more users to be added by using high-order OAM Bell states. Our research extends the manipulation method for high-dimensional quantum states and paves the way for the application of OAM multiplexing in quantum communications.

Multiplexing heralded single photons in orbital-angular-momentum space

Shi-Long Liu, Qiang Zhou, Zhi‐Yuan Zhou +7 more

A heralded single-photon source (HSPS) with competitive single-photon purity and indistinguishability has become an essential resource for photonic quantum information processing. Here we propose a theoretical regime to enhance heralded single-photon generation by multiplexing the degree of freedom of orbital angular momentum (OAM) of down-converted entangled photon pairs emitted from a nonlinear crystal. Experimentally, a proof-of-principle experiment is performed through multiplexing three OAM modes. We achieve a $47%$ enhancement in the single-photon rate. A second-order autocorrelation function ${g}^{(2)}(0)<0.5$ ensures our multiplexed heralded single photons with good single-photon purity. We further indicate that an OAM-multiplexed HSPS with high quality can be constructed by generating higher-dimensional entangled states and sorting them with high efficiency in OAM space. Our method may approach a good HSPS with the deterministic property.
