Abstract

We study integrable spin chains and quantum and classical cellular automata with interaction range ℓ≥3. This is a family of integrable models for which there was no general theory so far. We develop an algebraic framework for such models, generalizing known methods from nearest-neighbor interacting chains. This leads to a new integrability condition for medium-range Hamiltonians, which can be used to classify such models. A partial classification is performed in specific cases, including U(1)-symmetric three-site interacting models, and Hamiltonians that are relevant for interaction-round-a-face models. We find a number of models which appear to be new. As an application we consider quantum brickwork circuits of various types, including those that can accommodate the classical elementary cellular automata on light cone lattices. In this family we find that the so-called Rule150 and Rule105 models are Yang-Baxter integrable with three-site interactions. We present integrable quantum deformations of these models, and derive a set of local conserved charges for them. For the famous Rule54 model we find that it does not belong to the family of integrable three-site models, but we cannot exclude Yang-Baxter integrability with longer interaction ranges.

Integrable deformations of superintegrable quantum circuits

Tamás Gombor, Balázs Pozsgay

Superintegrable models are very special dynamical systems: they possess more conservation laws than what is necessary for integrability. This severely constrains their dynamical processes, and it often leads to their exact solvability, even in non-equilibrium situations. In this paper we consider special Hamiltonian deformations of superintegrable quantum circuits. The deformations break superintegrability, but they preserve integrability. We focus on a selection of concrete models and show that for each model there is an (at least) one parameter family of integrable deformations. Our most interesting example is the so-called Rule54 model. We show that the model is compatible with a one parameter family of Yang-Baxter integrable spin chains with six-site interaction. Therefore, the Rule54 model does not have a unique integrability structure, instead it lies at the intersection of a family of quantum integrable models.

Integrable models on Rydberg atom chains

Luke Corcoran, Marius de Leeuw, Balázs Pozsgay

We initiate a systematic study of integrable models for spin chains with constrained Hilbert spaces; we focus on spin-1/2 chains with the Rydberg constraint. We extend earlier results for medium-range spin chains to the constrained Hilbert space, and formulate an integrability condition. This enables us to construct new integrable models with fixed interaction ranges. We classify all time- and space-reflection symmetric integrable Rydberg-constrained Hamiltonians of range 3 and 4. At range 3, we find a single family of integrable Hamiltonians: the so-called RSOS quantum chains, which are related to the well-known RSOS models of Andrews, Baxter, and Forrester. At range 4 we find two families of models, the first of which is the constrained XXZ model. We also find a new family of models depending on a single coupling z z . We provide evidence of two critical points related to the golden ratio \phi ϕ , at z=\phi^{-1/2} z = ϕ − 1 / 2 and z=\phi^{3/2} z = ϕ 3 / 2 . We also perform a partial classification of integrable Hamiltonians for range 5.

Integrability from a single conservation law in quantum spin chains

Akihiro Hokkyo

We prove that, for translationally invariant quantum spin chains with finite-range interactions, the existence of a specific conservation law implies the presence of infinitely many local conserved quantities, i.e., integrability. This shows that the standard hierarchy of local conserved quantities arising for nearest-neighbor Hamiltonians obtained via the canonical Yang-Baxter construction is already encoded in the lowest nontrivial conservation law, known as the Reshetikhin condition. Combined with recent rigorous results on nonintegrability, our theorem strongly restricts the possibility of partially integrable systems that admit only a finite but large number of local conserved quantities. Our work establishes a rigorous foundation for the systematic identification of new integrable models and deepens the algebraic understanding of conservation-law structures in quantum spin chains.

On the integrability structure of the deformed rule-54 reversible cellular automaton

Chiara Paletta, Tomaž Prosen

Abstract We study quantum and stochastic deformations of the rule-54 reversible cellular automaton (RCA54) on a 1+1–dimensional spatiotemporal lattice, focusing on their integrability structures in two distinct settings. First, for the quantum deformation, which turns the model into an interaction-round-a-face brickwork quantum circuit (either on an infinite lattice or with periodic boundary conditions), we show that the shortest-range nontrivial conserved charge commuting with the discrete-time evolution operator has a density supported on six consecutive sites. By constructing the corresponding range-6 Lax operator, we prove that this charge belongs to an infinite tower of mutually commuting conserved charges generated by higher-order logarithmic derivatives of the transfer matrix. With the aid of an intertwining operator, we further prove that the transfer matrix commutes with the discrete-time evolution operator. Second, for the stochastic deformation, which renders the model into a Markov-chain circuit, we investigate open boundary conditions that couple the system at its edges to stochastic reservoirs. In this setting, we explicitly construct the non-equilibrium steady state by means of a staggered patch matrix ansatz, a hybrid construction combining the previously used commutative patch-state ansatz for the undeformed RCA54 with the matrix-product ansatz. Finally, we propose a simple empirical criterion for detecting integrability or exact solvability in a given model setup, introducing the notion of digit complexity.

Yang-Baxter integrable open quantum systems

Chiara Paletta

This work is based on the author's PhD thesis. The main result of the thesis is the use of the boost operator to develop a systematic method to construct new integrable spin chains with nearest-neighbour interaction and characterized by an R-matrix of non-difference form. This method has the advantage of being more feasible than directly solving the Yang-Baxter equation. We applied this approach to various contexts, in particular, in the realm of open quantum systems, we achieved the first classification of integrable Lindbladians. These operators describe the dynamics of physical systems in contact with a Markovian environment. Within this classification, we discovered a novel deformation of the Hubbard model spanning three sites of the spin chain. Additionally, we applied our method to classify models with $\mathfrak{su}(2)\oplus \mathfrak{su}(2)$ symmetry and we recovered the matrix part of the S-matrix of $AdS_5 \times S^5$ derived by requiring centrally extended $\mathfrak{su}(2|2)$ symmetry. Furthermore, we focus on spin 1/2 chain on models of 8-Vertex type and we showed that the models of this class satisfy the free fermion condition. This enables us to express the transfer matrix associated to some of the models in a diagonal form, simplifying the computation of the eigenvalues and eigenvectors. The thesis is based on the works: 2003.04332, 2010.11231, 2011.08217, 2101.08279, 2207.14193, 2301.01612, 2305.01922.
