Abstract

Abstract We study the single interval entanglement and relative entropies of conformal descendants in 2d CFT. Descendants contain non-trivial entanglement, though the entanglement entropy of the canonical primary in the free boson CFT contains no additional entanglement compared to the vacuum, we show that the entanglement entropy of the state created by its level one descendant is non-trivial and is identical to that of the U(1) current in this theory. We determine the first sub-leading corrections to the short interval expansion of the entanglement entropy of descendants in a general CFT from their four point function on the n-sheeted plane. We show that these corrections are determined by multiplying squares of appropriate dressing factors to the corresponding corrections of the primary. Relative entropy between descendants of the same primary is proportional to the square of the difference of their dressing factors. We apply our results to a class of descendants of generalized free fields and descendants of the vacuum and show that their dressing factors are universal.

Excitation entanglement entropy in two dimensional conformal field theories

Mohammad Mehdi Sheikh-Jabbari, Hossein Yavartanoo

We analyze how excitations affect the entanglement entropy for an arbitrary entangling interval in a 2d conformal field theory (CFT) using the holographic entanglement entropy techniques as well as direct CFT computations. We introduce the excitation entanglement entropy ${\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Delta}}}_{h}S$, the difference between the entanglement entropy generic excitations and their arbitrary conformal descendants denoted through $h$. The excitation entanglement entropy, unlike the entanglement entropy, is a finite quantity (independent of the cutoff), and hence a good physical observable. We show that the excitation entanglement entropy for any given interval is uniquely specified by a local second order differential equation sourced by the one point function of the energy momentum tensor computed in the excited background state, and two boundary and smoothness conditions. We analyze low and high temperature behavior of the excitation entanglement entropy and show that ${\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Delta}}}_{h}S$ grows as a function of temperature. We prove an ``integrated positivity'' for the excitation entanglement entropy, that although ${\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Delta}}}_{h}S$ can be positive or negative, its average value is always positive. We also discuss the mutual and multipartite information and (strong) subadditivity inequality in the presence of generic excitations and their conformal descendants.

Universal relation between thermal entropy and entanglement entropy in conformal field theories

Bin Chen, Jie-qiang Wu

Inspired by the holographic computation of large interval entanglement entropy of two-dimensional (2D) conformal field theory at high temperature, it was proposed that the thermal entropy is related to the entanglement entropy as ${S}_{th}=\underset{l\ensuremath{\rightarrow}0}{\mathrm{lim}}({S}_{EE}(R\ensuremath{-}l)\ensuremath{-}{S}_{EE}(l))$. In this paper, we prove this relation for 2D CFT with a discrete spectrum in two different ways. Moreover, we discuss this relation for a 2D noncompact free scalar, which is a gapless CFT with continuous spectrum. We show that it could be recovered, after appropriately regularizing the theory.

Generalized entanglement entropies in two-dimensional conformal field theory

Sara Murciano, Pasquale Calabrese, Robert Konik

Abstract We introduce and study generalized Rényi entropies defined through the traces of products of TrB(| Ψi⟩⟨Ψj| ) where ∣Ψi⟩ are eigenstates of a two-dimensional conformal field theory (CFT). When ∣Ψi⟩ = ∣Ψj⟩ these objects reduce to the standard Rényi entropies of the eigenstates of the CFT. Exploiting the path integral formalism, we show that the second generalized Rényi entropies are equivalent to four point correlators. We then focus on a free bosonic theory for which the mode expansion of the fields allows us to develop an efficient strategy to compute the second generalized Rényi entropy for all eigenstates. As a byproduct, our approach also leads to new results for the standard Rényi and relative entropies involving arbitrary descendent states of the bosonic CFT.

Entanglement entropy for descendent local operators in 2D CFTs

Bin Chen, Wu-zhong Guo, Song He +1 more

We mainly study the Rényi entropy and entanglement entropy of the states locally excited by the descendent operators in two dimensional conformal field theories (CFTs). In rational CFTs, we prove that the increase of entanglement entropy and Rényi entropy for a class of descendent operators, which are generated by $$ {\mathrm{\mathcal{L}}}^{\left(-\right)}{\overline{\mathrm{\mathcal{L}}}}^{\left(-\right)} $$ onto the primary operator, always coincide with the logarithmic of quantum dimension of the corresponding primary operator. That means the Rényi entropy and entanglement entropy for these descendent operators are the same as the ones of their corresponding primary operator. For 2D rational CFTs with a boundary, we confirm that the Rényi entropy always coincides with the logarithmic of quantum dimension of the primary operator during some periods of the evolution. Furthermore, we consider more general descendent operators generated by $$ {\displaystyle \sum {d}_{\left\{{n}_i\right\}\left\{{n}_j\right\}}\left({\displaystyle {\prod}_i{L}_{-}{{}_n}_{{}_i}{\displaystyle {\prod}_j{{\overline{L}}_{-n}}_{{}_j}}}\right)} $$ on the primary operator. For these operators, the entanglement entropy and Rényi entropy get additional corrections, as the mixing of holomorphic and anti-holomorphic Virasoro generators enhance the entanglement. Finally, we employ perturbative CFT techniques to evaluate the Rényi entropy of the excited operators in deformed CFT. The Rényi and entanglement entropies are increased, and get contributions not only from local excited operators but also from global deformation of the theory.

Precision tests of bulk entanglement entropy

Barsha G. Chowdhury, Justin R. David, Semanti Dutta +1 more

A bstract We consider linear superpositions of single particle excitations in a scalar field theory on AdS 3 and evaluate their contribution to the bulk entanglement entropy across the Ryu-Takayanagi surface. We compare the entanglement entropy of these excitations obtained using the Faulkner-Lewkowycz-Maldacena formula to the entanglement entropy of linear superposition of global descendants of a conformal primary in a large c CFT obtained using the replica trick. We show that the closed form expressions for the entanglement entropy in the small interval expansion both in gravity and the CFT precisely agree. The agreement serves as a non-trivial check of the FLM formula for the quantum corrections to holographic entanglement entropy as well as the methods developed in the CFT to evaluate entanglement entropy of descendants. Our checks includes an example in which the state is time dependent and spatially in-homogenous as well another example involving a coherent state with a Bañados geometry as its holographic dual.

Universal corrections to entanglement entropy of local quantum quenches

Justin R. David, Surbhi Khetrapal, S. Prem Kumar

We study the time evolution of single interval Rényi and entanglement entropies following local quantum quenches in two dimensional conformal field theories at finite temperature for which the locally excited states have a finite temporal width ϵ. We show that, for local quenches produced by the action of a conformal primary field, the time dependence of Rényi and entanglement entropies at order ϵ2 is universal. It is determined by the expectation value of the stress tensor in the replica geometry and proportional to the conformal dimension of the primary field generating the local excitation. We also show that in CFTs with a gravity dual, the ϵ2 correction to the holographic entanglement entropy following a local quench precisely agrees with the CFT prediction. We then consider CFTs admitting a higher spin symmetry and turn on a higher spin chemical potential μ. We calculate the time dependence of the order ϵ2 correction to the entanglement entropy for small μ, and show that the contribution at order μ 2 is universal. We verify our arguments against exact results for minimal models and the free fermion theory.
