Quantum phase transition of light in the dissipative Rabi-Hubbard lattice: A dressed-master-equation perspective

Abstract

In this work, we investigate the quantum phase transition of light in the dissipative Rabi-Hubbard lattice under the framework of the mean-field theory and quantum dressed master equation. The order parameter of photons in strong qubit-photon coupling regime is derived analytically both at zero and low temperatures. Interestingly, we can locate the localization and delocalization phase transition very well in a wide parameter region. In particular for the zero-temperature limit, the critical tunneling strength approaches zero generally in the deep-strong qubit-photon coupling regime, regardless of the quantum dissipation. This is contrary to the previous results with the finite minimal critical tunneling strength based on the standard Lindblad master equation. Moreover, a significant improvement of the critical tunneling is also observed at finite temperature, compared with the counterpart under the Lindblad description. We hope these results may deepen the understanding of the phase transition of photons in the Rabi-Hubbard model.

Implication of giant photon bunching on quantum phase transition in the dissipative anisotropic quantum Rabi model

Ye, Tian, Chen Wang, Qing‐Hu Chen

We investigate the quantum phase transition in the dissipative anisotropic quantum Rabi model in the framework of quantum dressed master equation. From perspectives of both numerical and analytical analysis, we unravel the implication of the giant photon-bunching feature on the first-order quantum phase transition. The observed two-photon statistics can be well described analytically within a few lowest eigenstates at the low temperature. Moreover, such significant photon-bunching peak is generally exhibited at the deep-strong qubit-photon coupling, which is however lacking in the dissipative isotropic quantum Rabi model. Therefore, we suggest that the photon-bunching measurement is helpful to characterize the first-order QPT of the qubit-photon hybrid systems.

Bose-Hubbard model: Relation between driven-dissipative steady states and equilibrium quantum phases

Alexandre Le Boité, Giuliano Orso, Cristiano Ciuti

We present analytical solutions for the mean-field master equation of the driven-dissipative Bose-Hubbard model for cavity photons, in the limit of both weak pumping and weak dissipation. Instead of pure Mott-insulator states, we find statistical mixtures with the same second-order coherence ${g}^{(2)}(0)$ as a Fock state with $n$ photons, but a mean photon number of $n/2.$ These mixed states occur when $n$ pump photons have the same energy as $n$ interacting photons inside the nonlinear cavity and survive up to a critical tunneling coupling strength, above which a crossover to a classical coherent state takes place. We also explain the origin of both antibunching and superbunching predicted by P-representation mean-field theory at higher pumping and dissipation. In particular, we show that the strongly correlated region of the associated phase diagram cannot be described within the semiclassical Gross-Pitaevskii approach.

Spin fluctuations in the dissipative phase transitions of the quantum Rabi model

Jiahui Li, Rosario Fazio, Ying-Dan Wang +1 more

We investigate the dissipative phase transitions of the anisotropic quantum Rabi model with cavity decay and demonstrate that large spin fluctuations persist in the stationary state, having important consequences on the phase diagram and the critical properties. In the second-order phase transition to the superradiant phase, there is a significant suppression of the order parameter and the appearance of nonuniversal factors, which directly reflect the spin populations. Furthermore, upon entering a parameter regime where mean-field theory predicts a tricritical phase, we find a first-order phase transition due to the unexpected collapse of superradiance. An accurate and physically transparent description going beyond mean-field theory is established by combining exact numerical simulations, the cumulant expansion, and analytical approximations based on reduced master equations and an effective equilibrium theory. Our findings, compared to the conventional thermodynamic limit of the Dicke model, indicate a general tendency of forming extreme nonequilibrium states in the single-spin system, thus have broad implications for dissipative phase transitions of few-body systems. A mathematical analysis of dressed photon in ground state of generalized quantum Rabi model using pair theory *

Masao Hirokawa, Jacob Schach Møller, Itaru Sasaki

Abstract We consider the generalized quantum Rabi model with the so-called A 2 -term in the light of the Hepp–Lieb–Preparata quantum phase transition. We investigate the dressed photon in its ground state when the atom-light coupling strength is in the deep-strong coupling regime. This regime is introduced by Casanova et al (2010 Phys. Rev. Lett . 105 263603 ) as the coupling regime exceeding the ultra-strong one. We show how the dressed photon appears in the ground state.

Lindblad equation for the quantum Rabi model in the deep strong coupling regime

Daniel Holst, Patrick Potts, Peter Samuelsson

We derive a quantum master equation in Lindblad form for the open quantum Rabi model in the perturbative deep strong coupling regime, where the spectrum is close to degenerate and harmonic. The Lindblad form is obtained by combining secular and singular-coupling approximations, working in a Schrieffer-Wolff transformed frame. We benchmark our equation against a Bloch-Redfield one, analyzing the time-evolution and steady state properties of several observables and find excellent agreement. Analytical results are obtained in limiting cases.

Hopping-induced quantum phase transition in the Ising-Rabi lattice model

Gaoke Hu, Zhiguo Lü, Hai‐Qing Lin +1 more

We study the ground state and low-lying polaritonic excitation states in the Ising-Rabi lattice model (IRLM), where the transverse field in the quantum transverse field Ising model is replaced by a quantized local photon field. The competition among the photon-hopping coupling, the intrasite Rabi interaction, and the Ising interaction drives the system across a quantum phase transition from the insulating phase to the delocalized superradiant phase. Mean-field theory confirms the existence of the quantum phase transition and the analytical expressions for the phase boundary are derived. The spectra of low-lying polaritonic excitations and Bose-Einstein condensation are further explored by a unitary transformation method. The deep strong-coupling analysis reveals a quantum criticality, where the IRLM belongs to the universality class of the $XYZ$ model. When the hopping strength $t=0$, the properties of the ground state in the IRLM are investigated by the symmetry analysis and the density-matrix renormalization-group method. It turns out that the photon field cannot alone serve as a global transverse field in the quantum transverse field Ising model without the presence of hopping coupling since a crossover behavior instead of a quantum phase transition is confirmed.
