Amplification of fluctuations in a spinor Bose-Einstein condensate

Sabrina R. Leslie, Jennie Guzman, Mukund Vengalattore +3 more

Dynamical instabilities in a $^{87}\text{R}\text{b}$ $F=1$ spinor Bose-Einstein condensate are used as a parametric amplifier of quantum spin fluctuations. We demonstrate the spectrum of this amplifier to be tunable, in quantitative agreement with theory. We quantify the microscopic spin fluctuations of the initially paramagnetic condensate by applying this amplifier and measuring the resulting macroscopic magnetization. The variance of these fluctuations agrees with predictions of a beyond-mean-field theory. This spin amplifier is thus shown to be nearly quantum limited at a gain as high as 30 dB.

Critical number of solitons in the Bose–Einstein condensate

M.R. Zhumaev, Mirzo Zokirovich Sharipov, N. N. Mirzhonova

The dynamics of solitons in the Bose–Einstein condensate under the effect of the fluctuation interaction of condensate atoms is studied. A system of equations of motion describing changes in the parameters of the soliton wave function is obtained using the method of the averaged Lagrangian. The minimum critical number of solitons is found, and the influence of the fluctuation interaction on the dynamics of solitons near their critical width is studied.

Dynamical phase changes of the self-trapping of Bose-Einstein condensates and its characteristic of entanglement

Ma Yun, Fu Li-Bin, Yang Zhi-An +2 more

In this paper, we exploit two-mode model to investigate the influence of quantum fluctuation on the self-trapping of the Bose-Einstein Condensate(BEC). We found that, even for the finite number of particles, the transition to self-trapping is still observed. In particular, because of the quantum fluctuation due to the finite number of particles, the critical phenomenon becomes fuzzily: the smaller the number of particles is, the more obviously fuzzily the critical phenomenon becomes. Quantum entanglement entropy is then introduced to depict the critical behavior near the transition point.
