A Discontinuity of the Energy of Quantum Walk in Impurities

Abstract

We consider the discrete-time quantum walk whose local dynamics is denoted by a common unitary matrix C at the perturbed region {0,1,⋯,M−1} and free at the other positions. We obtain the stationary state with a bounded initial state. The initial state is set so that the perturbed region receives the inflow ωn at time n(|ω|=1). From this expression, we compute the scattering on the surface of −1 and M and also compute the quantity how quantum walker accumulates in the perturbed region; namely, the energy of the quantum walk, in the long time limit. The frequency of the initial state of the influence to the energy is symmetric on the unit circle in the complex plain. We find a discontinuity of the energy with respect to the frequency of the inflow.

Non-Markovianity and bound states in quantum walks with a phase impurity

B Danacı, G Karpat, İ. Yalçınkaya +1 more

Abstract We study the discrete-time quantum walk on the line with a single phase impurity. The spread and localisation properties of discrete-time walks initialized at the impurity site are affected by the appearance of bound states and their reflection symmetry. Here, we measure localisation by means of an effective localisation length and an effective participation ratio, which are obtained by averaging over all eigenstates and over all initial states, respectively. We observe that the reduced coin system dynamics undergoes oscillations in the long-time limit with the frequencies determined by the sublattice operator and the bound state quasi-energy differences. The oscillations give rise to non-Markovian evolution, which we quantify using the trace distance and entanglement based measures of non-Markovianity. Indeed, we reveal that the degree of the non-Markovian behaviour is closely related to the emergence of bound states due to the phase impurity. We also show that the considered measures give qualitatively different results depending on the number and symmetries of supported bound states. Finally, comparing localisation and non-Markovianity measures, we demonstrate that the degree of non-Markovianity becomes maximum when the walker is most localised in position space.

A limit theorem for a 3-period time-dependent quantum walk

F. Alberto Grünbaum, Takuya Machida

We consider a discrete-time 2-state quantum walk on the line. The state of the quantum walker evolves according to a rule which is determined by a coin-flip operator and a position-shift operator. In this paper we take a 3-periodic time evolution as the rule. For such a quantum walk, we get a limit distribution which expresses the asymptotic behavior of the walker after a long time. The limit distribution is different from that of a time-independent quantum walk or a 2-period time-dependent quantum walk. We give some analytical results and then consider a number of variants of our model and indicate the result of simulations for these ones.

Asymptotic reduced density matrix of discrete-time quantum walks

Mostafa Annabestani

Abstract In this article we show that for any quantum walker with m -dimensional coin subspace, we have m 2 × m 2 specific constant matrix C where it completely determines the asymptotic reduced density matrix of the walker. We show that for any initial state with P 0 projector, the reduced density matrix can be obtained by T r 1 P 0 ⊗ I C or equivalently T r 2 I ⊗ P 0 C . It is worth mentioning that the characteristic matrix C is independent of the initial state and just depends on the coin operator, so by finding this matrix for a specific type of quantum walks (QW), the long-time behavior of it, such as local state of the coin after a long-time walk and asymptotic entanglement between the coin and position will be completely known for any initial state. We have found the characteristic matrix C for the general coin operator, U 2 , as well as the exact form of this matrix for the local initial state.

A QUANTUM WALK WITH A DELOCALIZED INITIAL STATE: CONTRIBUTION FROM A COIN-FLIP OPERATOR

Takuya Machida

A unit evolution step of discrete-time quantum walks (QWs) is determined by both a coin-flip operator and a position-shift operator. The behavior of quantum walkers after many steps delicately depends on the coin-flip operator and an initial condition of the walk. To get the behavior, a lot of long-time limit distributions for the QWs starting with a localized initial state have been derived. In this paper, we compute limit distributions of a 2-state QW with a delocalized initial state, not a localized initial state, and discuss how the walker depends on the coin-flip operator. The initial state induced from the Fourier series expansion, which is called the (α, β) delocalized initial state in this paper, provides different limit density functions from the ones of the quantum walk with a localized initial state.

Coined quantum walk on a quantum network

Jigyen Bhavsar, Shashank Shekhar, Siddhartha Santra

We explore a discrete-time, coined quantum walk on a quantum network where the coherent superposition of walker moves originates from the unitary interaction of the walker coin with the qubit degrees of freedom in the quantum network. The walk dynamics leads to a growth of entanglement between the walker and the network on one hand and, on the other, between the network qubits among themselves. The initial entanglement among the network qubits plays a crucial role in determining the asymptotic values of these entanglement measures and the quantum walk statistics. Specifically, the entanglement entropy of the walker-network state and the negativity of the quantum network-qubit state saturate to values increasing with the initial network entanglement. The asymptotic time-averaged walker-position probability distribution shows increasing localization around the initial walker position with higher initial network entanglement. A potential application of these results as a characterization tool for quantum network properties is suggested.

Connection Between Continuous and Discrete Time Quantum Walks on d-Dimensional Lattices; Extensions to General Graphs

I obtain the dynamics of the continuous time quantum walk on a d-dimensional lattice, with periodic boundary conditions, as an appropriate limit of the dynamics of the discrete time quantum walk on the same lattice. This extends the main result of [8] which proved this limit for the case of the quantum walk on the infinite line and the quantum cellular automaton proposed in [1]. By highlighting the main features of the limiting procedure, I then extend it to general graphs. For a given discrete time quantum walk on a general graph, I single out the type of continuous dynamics (Hamiltonians) that can be obtained as a limit of the discrete time dynamics. 1 Generalities on quantum walks; continuous and discrete time Consider a graph G: = {V, E} with a set of vertices V of cardinality N and a set of edges E.
