Abstract

A new class of positive maps is introduced. It interpolates between positive and completely positive maps. It is shown that this class gives rise to a new characterization of entangled states. Additionally, it provides a refinement of the well-known classes of entangled states characterized in terms of the Schmidt number. The analysis is illustrated with examples of qubit maps.

Constructing positive maps from block matrices

Yu Jing Guo, Heng Fan

Positive maps are useful for detecting entanglement in quantum information theory. Any entangled state can be detected by some positive map. In this paper, the relation between positive block matrices and completely positive trace-preserving maps is characterized. Consequently, a new method for constructing decomposable maps from positive block matrices is derived. In addition, a method for constructing positive but not completely positive maps from Hermitian block matrices is also obtained.

A note on Schmidt-number witnesses based on symmetric measurements

Xiao-Qian Mu, Hao-Fan Wang, Shao-Ming Fei

The Schmidt number is an important kind of characterization of quantum entanglement. Quantum states with higher Schmidt numbers demonstrate significant advantages in various quantum information processing tasks. By deriving a class of k-positive linear maps based on symmetric measurements, we present new Schmidt-number witnesses of class (k + 1). By detailed example, we show that our Schmidt number witnesses identify better the Schmidt number of quantum states in high-dimensional systems. Furthermore, we note that the Fedorov ratio, which coincides with the Schmidt number for pure Gaussian states and provides a close approximation in non-Gaussian cases such as spontaneous parametric down-conversion, serves as an experimentally accessible tool for validating the proposed (k +1)-class Schmidt-number witnesses.

Higher-dimensional-entanglement detection and quantum-channel characterization using moments of generalized positive maps

Bivas Mallick, Ananda G. Maity, Nirman Ganguly +1 more

Higher-dimensional entanglement is a valuable resource for several quantum information processing tasks, and is often characterized by the Schmidt number and specific classes of entangled states beyond qubit-qubit and qubit-qutrit systems. We propose a criterion to detect higher-dimensional entanglement, focusing on determining the Schmidt number of quantum states and identifying significant classes of positive partial transposition and negative partial transposition entangled states. Our approach relies on evaluating moments of generalized positive maps which can be efficiently simulated in real experiments without the requirement of full-state tomography. We demonstrate the effectiveness of our detection scheme through various illustrative examples. As a direct application, we explore the implications of our moment-based detection schemes in identifying useful quantum channels such as non-Schmidt-number breaking channels and non-entanglement breaking channels. Finally, we present an operational implication of our proposed moment criterion through its manifestation in channel discrimination tasks.

Unital Kadison-Schwarz Maps

Hajir Al Zadjali, Farrukh Maksutovich Mukhamedov

Quantum entanglement is an important phenomenon in quantum information theory. To detect entanglement theoretically, positive but not completely positive maps are used. The Kadison-Schwarz (KS) inequality interpolates between positivity and complete positivity. KS maps may be key to understanding and detecting entanglement. We provide a description of a subset of KS maps on [Formula: see text] that are unital. This allows for the classification of a wider class of positive maps than the well known bistochastic maps. We derive the conditions for a unital map to be a KS map, and provide nontrivial examples of such a map.

On a characterization of positive maps

W. A. Majewski, Marcin Marciniak

Drawing on results of Choi, Størmer and Woronowicz, we present a nearly complete characterization of certain important classes of positive maps. In particular, we construct a general class of positive linear maps acting between two matrix algebras ℬ( ) and ℬ( ), where and are finite-dimensional Hilbert spaces. It turns out that elements of this class are characterized by operators from the dual cone of the set of all separable states on ℬ( ⊗ ). Subsequently, the relation between entanglements and positive maps is described. Finally, a new characterization of the cone ℬ( ) + ⊗ℬ( ) + is given.
