Abstract

The early definition of a quantum neural network as a new field that combines the classical neurocomputing with quantum computing was rather vague and satisfactory in the 2000s. The widespread in 2020 modern definition of a quantum neural network as a model or machine learning algorithm that combines the functions of quantum computing with artificial neural networks deprives quantum neural networks of their fundamental importance. We argue that the concept of a quantum neural network should be defined in terms of its most general function as a tool for representing the amplitude of an arbitrary quantum process. Our reasoning is based on the use of the Feynman path integral formulation in quantum mechanics. This approach has been used in many works to investigate the main problem of quantum cosmology, such as the origin of the Universe. In fact, the question of whether our Universe is a quantum computer was posed by Seth Lloyd, who gave the answer is yes, but we argue that the universe can be thought of as a quantum neural network.

AN INTRODUCTION TO QUANTUM NEURAL COMPUTING

Shaktikanta Nayak, Sitakanta Nayak, Jaskaran Singh

The goal of the artificial neural network is to create powerful artificial problem solving systems. The field of quantum computation applies ideas from quantum mechanics to the study of computation and has made interesting progress. Quantum Neural Network (QNN) is one of the new paradigms built upon the combination of classical neural computation and quantum computation. It is argued that the study of QNN may explain the brain functionality in a better way and create new systems for information processing including solving some classically intractable problems. In this paper we have given an introductory representation of quantum artificial neural network to show how it can be modelled on the basis of double-slit experiment. Also an attempt is made to show the quantum mechanical representation of a classical neuron to implement Hadamard transformation.

This chapter outlines the research, development and perspectives of quantum neural networks - a burgeoning new field which integrates classical neurocomputing with quantum computation [1]. It is argued that the study of quantum neural networks may give us both new understanding of brain function as well as unprecedented possibilities in creating new systems for information processing, including solving classically intractable problems, associative memory with exponential capacity and possibly overcoming the limitations posed by the Church-Turing thesis.

Quantum Neural Networks in Machine Learning: Problems and Prospects

K. Yu. Safronov

Despite rapid theoretical and practical progress, machine learning algorithms require large computational resources. However, new opportunities are opening up due to the advent of quantum computing devices that directly use the laws of quantum mechanics to bypass the technological and thermodynamic limitations of classical computing. Taking into account that artificial neural networks are actively used in solving a number of practical problems, with the advent of quantum computing technologies, the development of quantum neural networks for the implementation of quantum machine learning is very relevant. The article considers a quantum analogue of classical neurons that form quantum neural networks capable of performing universal quantum computations.

Quantum neural networks (QNNs) represent a cutting-edge approach to machine learning and artificial intelligence, harnessing the principles of quantum mechanics to process and analyze data in fundamentally new ways. Unlike classical neural networks, which operate on classical bits and are limited by the laws of classical physics, QNNs use quantum bits (qubits) and exploit quantum phenomena such as superposition and entanglement to achieve unprecedented computational power and efficiency. This chapter explores the principles and applications of QNNs, including their potential for solving complex optimisation problems, pattern recognition tasks, and quantum simulation tasks. We discuss various QNN architectures, training algorithms, and applications, highlighting their advantages and challenges compared to classical neural networks. Additionally, we explore the potential impact of QNNs on fields such as quantum computing, quantum communication, and quantum sensing, as well as their implications for society and the economy. Overall, this chapter provides insights into the emerging field of quantum neural networks and sets the stage for further research and innovation in this exciting area.
