Zero-temperature phase diagram of two dimensional Hubbard model

We investigate the two-dimensional Hubbard model on the triangular lattice with anisotropic hopping integrals at half filling. By means of a self-energy functional approach, we discuss how stable the non-magnetic state is against magnetically ordered states in the system. We present the zero-temperature phase diagram, where the normal metallic state competes with magnetically ordered states with $(π, π)$ and $(2π/3, 2π/3)$ structures. It is shown that a non-magnetic Mott insulating state is not realized as the ground state, in the present framework, but as a meta-stable state near the magnetically ordered phase with $(2π/3, 2π/3)$ structure.

Mott transition in the Hubbard model on the triangular lattice

Takuya Yoshioka, Akihisa Koga, Norio Kawakami

Abstract We investigate a metal–insulator Mott transition in the half‐filled Hubbard model on the triangular lattice. In this study, we make use of the path‐integral renormalization group method with an iteration and truncation scheme proposed recently, which allows us to access the competing ground states around the transition point. We find for a cluster with 36 sites that as the Hubbard interaction U increases, the paramagnetic metallic (PM) state undergoes a metal–insulator phase transition to a nonmagnetic insulating (NMI) state at $U_{\rm c} \sim 7.4t$ , where t is the transfer integral. A detailed analysis around the transition point shows that the Mott transition is of first order.

Competing charge and magnetic order in fermionic multicomponent systems

Mohsen Hafez-Torbati, Walter Hofstetter

We consider the fermionic $\mathrm{SU}(3)$ Hubbard model on the triangular lattice at $1/3$ filling in the presence of a three-sublattice staggered potential which provides the possibility to investigate the competition of charge and magnetic order in three-component systems. We show that, depending on the strength of the staggered potential $\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Delta}}$, the Hubbard interaction $U$ destabilizes the band insulator at small $U$ into the Mott insulator at large $U$ in three different ways with different intermediate phases. This leads to a rich phase diagram in the $U\text{\ensuremath{-}}\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Delta}}$ plane. Our results indicate that multicomponent systems show not only exotic states in the Mott regime as has been considered previously, but also interesting competition between charge and magnetic orders which can lead to the emergence of charge-ordered magnetic insulators and charge-ordered magnetic metals.

We consider the fermionic SU(3)\mathrm{SU}(3)SU(3) Hubbard model on the triangular lattice at 1/31/31/3 filling in the presence of a three-sublattice staggered potential which provides the possibility to investigate the competition of charge and magnetic order in three-component systems. We show that, depending on the strength of the staggered potential $\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Delta}}$, the Hubbard interaction UUU destabilizes the band insulator at small UUU into the Mott insulator at large UUU in three different ways with different intermediate phases. This leads to a rich phase diagram in the $U\text{\ensuremath{-}}\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Delta}}$ plane.
