Abstract

We propose a method to create selective interactions with Dicke-Stark model by means of a time-dependent perturbation theory. By choosing the proper rotating framework, we find that the time oscillating terms depend on the number of atomic excitations and the number of photonic excitations. Consequently, the Rabi oscillation between selective states can be realized by properly choosing the frequency of the two-level system. The second order selective interactions can also be studied with this method. Then various states, such as Dicke states, superposition of Dicke states and GHZ states, can be created by means of such selective interactions. The numerical results show that high fidelity Dicke states and Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger states can be created by choosing the proper frequency of the two-level system and controlling the evolution time.

Selective interactions in the quantum Rabi model

Lei Cong, Simone Felicetti, Jorge Casanova +3 more

We demonstrate the emergence of selective $k$-photon interactions in the strong and ultrastrong coupling regimes of the quantum Rabi model with a Stark coupling term. In particular, we show that the interplay between the rotating and counterrotating terms produces multiphoton interactions whose resonance frequencies depend, due to the Stark term, on the state of the bosonic mode. We develop an analytical framework to explain these $k$-photon interactions by using time-dependent perturbation theory. Finally, we propose a method to achieve the quantum simulation of the quantum Rabi model with a Stark term by using the internal and vibrational degrees of freedom of a trapped ion, and demonstrate its performance with numerical simulations considering realistic physical parameters.

Entangling two Dicke states in a periodic modulated quantum system

Wuji Zhang, Ruifang Wu, Chunfang Sun +2 more

We propose a theoretical approach for entangling two Dicke states in a periodic modulated quantum system. By considering two qubit ensembles that are nonuniformly coupled to a common resonator, we can derive an effective Hamiltonian whose energy levels depend nonlinearly on the excitation number of each qubit ensemble. A more simplified effective Hamiltonian can be obtained by selecting the appropriate driving parameters and initial state. Based on the dynamic evolution of the effective Hamiltonian, we can selectively achieve Dicke state transitions and generate entangled Dicke states controllably. For a special case, we can obtain ensemble-ensemble entangled states by performing a projective even-odd cat-state measurement. By implementing Gaussian soft temporal modulation, we can effectively suppress off-resonant contributions in the interaction and enhance the fidelity of target states. Furthermore, by utilizing the Holstein-Primakoff transformation, we study the resonator-ensemble coupling system in the thermodynamic limit and investigate the generation of entangled magnon states. Additionally, we propose a scheme of creating magnon NOON states through frequency modulation and study the influence of decoherence on the fidelity of target states.

Switchable selective interactions in a Dicke model with a driven biased term

Ning Yu, Shiran Wang, Chunfang Sun +1 more

In this work, we propose a method to investigate controllable qubit-resonator interactions in a Dicke model with driven biased term. The nonlinearity of the spectrum, which can be induced by qubit-resonator interactions, plays an important role in such controllable interactions. To gain insight into the mechanism of the nonlinearity, we perform a unitary transformation of the Hamiltonian. The results show that the nonlinearity of the transformed Hamiltonian depends on the qubit-resonator coupling strength. The general forms of the effective Hamiltonians are discussed in detail based on the frequency modulation approach. The dynamical evolution can be switched on and off by adjusting the modulation parameters. By utilizing such controllable interactions, we discuss the creation of Dicke states and the arbitrary superposition of Dicke states. We also consider the nonlinearity of the energy level for the limit of large qubit numbers. In the thermodynamics limit, the Kerr type nonlinearity is induced from "magnon"-resonator coupling, and the selective preparation of "magnon" Fock states can be studied under a "magnon" scenario.

COLLAPSES AND REVIVALS IN M TWO-LEVEL ATOMS INTERACTING WITH A SINGLE MODE COHERENT RADIATION

Ranjana Prakash, Pramila Shukla

We report here results for collapses and revivals phenomenon for a collection of M two-level atoms contained in a volume having dimensions much smaller than the radiation wavelength and existing in the Dicke state |r,m〉. We use a perturbation approach and obtain in the lowest contributing order of perturbation second harmonic, besides the main Rabi frequency. The amplitude of the fundamental depends on m only, but the amplitude of the harmonic has dependence on r as well as m. If the atoms are in superradiant states, only the second harmonic is obtained. Revival time for the second harmonic is one half that for the fundamental. It is interesting to note that the number of atoms M does not matter in Rabi frequency, collapse times, revival times or in amplitudes, and only r and m matter. Values of r and m of atoms in a Dicke state can be determined, in principle, by observing Rabi oscillations and average atomic inversion.

Cooling of many-body systems via selective interactions

Roberto Grimaudo, Lucas Lamata, E. Solano +1 more

We propose a model describing $N$ spin-1/2 systems coupled through $N$-order homogeneous interaction terms, in the presence of local time-dependent magnetic fields. This model can be experimentally implemented with current technologies in trapped ions and superconducting circuits. By introducing a chain of unitary transformations, we succeed in exactly converting the quantum dynamics of this system into that of ${2}^{N\ensuremath{-}1}$ fictitious spin-1/2 dynamical problems. We bring to light the possibility of controlling the unitary evolution of the $N$ spins generating Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger states under specific time-dependent scenarios. Moreover, we show that by appropriately engineering the time dependence of the coupling parameters, one may choose a specific subspace in which the $N$-spin system dynamics takes place. This dynamical feature, which we call time-dependent selective interaction, can generate a cooling effect of all spins in the system.

Dispersive Regimes of the Dicke Model

Diego Barberena, Lucas Lamata, E. Solano

We study two dispersive regimes of the Dicke model in the dynamics of N two-level atoms interacting with a bosonic mode for long interaction times. Firstly, we analyze the model for the regime in which the qubit frequencies are equal and smaller than the mode frequency, and for values of the coupling strength similar or larger than the mode frequency, namely, the deep strong coupling regime. Secondly, we address an interaction that is dependent on the photon number, where the coupling strength is comparable to the geometric mean of the qubit and mode frequencies. We show that the associated dynamics is analytically tractable and provide useful frameworks with which to analyze the system behavior. In the deep strong coupling regime, we unveil the structure of unexpected resonances for specific values of the coupling, present for N ≥ 2, and in the photon-number-dependent regime we demonstrate that all the nontrivial dynamical behavior occurs in the atomic degrees of freedom for a given Fock state. We verify these assertions with numerical simulations of the qubit population and photon-statistic dynamics.
