Nonuniform phases in the geometrically frustrated dissipative XYZ model

Abstract

We investigate the steady-state phase diagram of the dissipative spin-1/2 XYZ model on a two-dimensional triangular lattice, in which each site is coupled to a local environment. By means of cluster mean-field approximation, we find that the steady-state phases of the system are rather rich, in particular there exist various types of nonuniform antiferromagnetic phases due to the geometrical frustration. As the short-range correlations are included in the analysis, the numerical results show that the oscillatory phase disappears while the triantiferromagnetic and biantiferromagnetic phases remain to exist in the thermodynamic limit. Moreover, the existence of the spin-density-wave phase, which is missed by the single-site mean-field analysis, is also revealed by the spin-structure factor.

Steady-state phases of the dissipative spin- 1/2 XYZ model with frustrated interactions

Xingli Li, Yan Li, Jiasen Jin

We investigate the steady-state phases of the dissipative spin-1/2 ${J}_{1}\text{\ensuremath{-}}{J}_{2}$ XYZ model on a two-dimensional square lattice. We show the next-nearest-neighboring interaction plays a crucial role in determining the steady-state properties. By means of the Gutzwiller mean-field (MF) factorization, we find the emergence of antiferromagnetic (AFM) steady-state phases. The existence of such AFM steady-state phases in thermodynamic limit is confirmed by cluster mean-field (CMF) analysis. Moreover, we find evidence of the limit cycle phase through the largest quantum Lyapunov exponent in small cluster and check the stability of the oscillation by calculating the averaged oscillation amplitude up to $4\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}4$ CMF approximation.

Numerical linked-cluster expansion for the dissipative XYZ model on a triangular lattice

Jiaxin Qiao, Weixuan Chang, Xinmeng Li +1 more

Abstract We generalize the numerical linked-cluster expansion (NLCE) method to study the dissipative quantum many-body system. We apply the NLCE to the triangular strip and two-dimensional lattice system. We investigate the dynamics and steady-state properties of the dissipative XYZ model where the coherent dynamics is governed by the anisotropic Heisenberg Hamiltonian while the nonunitary process is induced by the incoherent spin flips. By comparing with the quantum trajectory simulations, the NLCE results show good performance in capturing the dynamics of system with short-range correlations. For strong and long-range correlated system, the larger size clusters in the series should be included. The NLCE study for the magnetic susceptibility also signals the steady-state paramagnetic-ferromagnetic phase transition in the two-dimensional case.

Steady states of a driven dissipative dipolar XXZ chain

Christopher D. Parmee, Nigel R. Cooper

We study theoretically a driven dissipative one-dimensional XXZ spin-1/2 chain with dipole coupling and a tunable strength of the Ising and XY interaction. Within a mean-field approximation, we find a rich phase diagram with uniform, spin density wave, antiferromagnetic and oscillatory phases, as well as regions of phase bistability. We study the phase diagram of small quantum systems using exact diagonalisation, and compare the results to the mean-field theory. We find that while expectation values only capture the uniform phases of the mean-field theory, fluctuations about these expectation values give signatures of spatially non-uniform phases and bistabilities. We find these signatures for all ratios of the Ising to XY interaction, showing that they appear to be general features of spin-1/2 systems.

Three-state Potts model on the centered triangular lattice

Zhe Fu, Wenan Guo, Henk W. J. Blöte

We study phase transitions of the Potts model on the centered-triangular lattice with two types of couplings, namely, K between neighboring triangular sites, and J between the centered and the triangular sites. Results are obtained by means of a finite-size analysis based on numerical transfer-matrix calculations and Monte Carlo simulations. Our investigation covers the whole (K,J) phase diagram, but we find that most of the interesting physics applies to the antiferromagnetic case K<0, where the model is geometrically frustrated. In particular, we find that there are, for all finite J, two transitions when K is varied. Their critical properties are explored. In the limits J→±∞ we find algebraic phases with infinite-order transitions to the ferromagnetic phase.

Cluster methods for the description of a driven-dissipative spin model

Dolf Huybrechts, Michiel Wouters

We study the influence of short-range quantum correlations and classical spatial correlations on the phase diagram of the dissipative XYZ model by using a Gutzwiller Monte Carlo method and a cluster Gutzwiller ansatz for the wave function. Considering lattices of finite size we confirm the emergence of a region with ferromagnetic correlations and two paramagnetic regions and show the emergence of a region with a buildup of ferromagnetic correlations completely missed by mean-field theory. The inclusion of short-range quantum correlations causes drastic alterations of the mean-field correlation functions but our results show that the inclusion of long-range quantum correlations or the use of more sophisticated methods is needed to quantitatively match the exact results. A study of the susceptibility tensor shows that reciprocity is broken, a feature not observed in closed quantum systems. Furthermore, increasing the magnetic field suppresses the magnetization; this is also in contrast with closed quantum systems.
