Abstract

The Rényi entanglement entropies of quasiparticle excitations in the many-body gapped systems show a remarkable universal picture which is independent of the model, the quasiparticle momenta, and the connectedness of the subsystem. In this letter we calculate exactly the single-interval and double-interval Rényi entanglement entropies of quasiparticle excitations in the many-body gapped fermions, bosons, and XY chains and find additional contributions to the universal Rényi entanglement entropy in the excited states with quasiparticles of different momenta. The additional terms are different in different models, depend on the momentum differences of the quasiparticles, and are different for the single interval and the double interval. We derive the analytical Rényi entanglement entropy in the extremely gapped limit, matching perfectly the numerical results as long as either the intrinsic correlation length of the model or all the de Broglie wavelengths of the quasiparticles are small. When the momentum difference of any pair of distinct quasiparticles is small, the additional terms are non-negligible. We argue that the derived formulas can be applied to a wider range of models than those discussed here.

Universal R\'enyi entropy in quasiparticle excited states of quantum chains

Jiaju Zhang, Rajabpour

We investigate the quasiparticle excited state R\'enyi entropy of single, double and more intervals in the fermionic chain, bosonic chain and XY chain. When the gap of the theory is large or all the momenta of the quasiparticles are large, the R\'enyi Entropy takes a super universal form, which is independent of, among others, the model, the quasiparticle momenta, and the subsystem connectedness. We calculate analytically the R\'enyi Entropy in the extremely gapped limit by writing the excited states in terms of the local excitations and find different additional contributions to the super universal R\'enyi entropy in various models. The additional contributions to the super universal R\'enyi entropy cannot be neglected when the momentum differences of the excited quasiparticles are small, however, they are negligible when all the momentum differences are large. The R\'enyi entropy with additional terms derived in the extremely gapped limit is universal in the sense that it is valid in the slightly gapped and critical models as long as all the momenta of the excited quasiparticles are large. In the case of double interval in the XY chain we find new exact super universal as well as the universal results. In the case of the bosonic chain in the extremely massive limit we find analytically a novel formula, written as a permanent of a certain matrix, for the R\'enyi entropy. We support all of our analytical results with numerical calculations.

Entanglement Content of Quasiparticle Excitations

Olalla A. Castro-Alvaredo, Cecilia De Fazio, Benjamin Doyon +1 more

We investigate the quantum entanglement content of quasiparticle excitations in extended many-body systems. We show that such excitations give an additive contribution to the bipartite von Neumann and Rényi entanglement entropies that takes a simple, universal form. It is largely independent of the momenta and masses of the excitations and of the geometry, dimension, and connectedness of the entanglement region. The result has a natural quantum information theoretic interpretation as the entanglement of a state where each quasiparticle is associated with two qubits representing their presence within and without the entanglement region, taking into account quantum (in)distinguishability. This applies to any excited state composed of finite numbers of quasiparticles with finite de Broglie wavelengths or finite intrinsic correlation length. This includes particle excitations in massive quantum field theory and gapped lattice systems, and certain highly excited states in conformal field theory and gapless models. We derive this result analytically in one-dimensional massive bosonic and fermionic free field theories and for simple setups in higher dimensions. We provide numerical evidence for the harmonic chain and the two-dimensional harmonic lattice in all regimes where the conditions above apply. Finally, we provide supporting calculations for integrable spin chain models and other interacting cases without particle production. Our results point to new possibilities for creating entangled states using many-body quantum systems.

Additivity of disjoint interval entanglement in quasiparticle excited states

Zhouhao Guo, Jiaju Zhang

We investigate mixed-state entanglement measures, namely reflected entropy, mutual information and logarithmic negativity, for two disjoint intervals in one-dimensional systems excited by a finite number of quasiparticles. While whole system is in a pure state, the two disjoint intervals are in a generically mixed state. To address the problem that natural subsystem bases are generically non-orthonormal in such excited states, we use a general and efficient algorithm that computes these measures directly from the density matrix expressed in an arbitrary non-orthonormal basis. Applying this method to classical, bosonic, and fermionic quasiparticle excitations on a circle, we discover a universal additivity property: in the limit of large momentum differences, the mixed-state entanglement of a multi-quasiparticle state decomposes exactly into the sum of independent contributions. This additivity unifies the entanglement behavior across classical and quantum statistics, with the classical result emerging naturally as a special case. Our findings establish a robust computational framework for mixed-state entanglement in excited many-body systems and reveal a generic decoupling mechanism that governs entanglement distribution beyond the ground state.

Shannon entropy in quasiparticle states of quantum chains

Wentao Ye, Jiaju Zhang

Abstract We investigate the Shannon entropy of the total system and its subsystems, as well as the subsystem Shannon mutual information, in quasiparticle excited states of free bosonic and fermionic chains and the ferromagnetic phase of the spin-1/2 XXX chain. For single-particle and double-particle states, we derive various analytical formulas for free bosonic and fermionic chains in the scaling limit. These formulas are also applicable to certain magnon excited states in the XXX chain in the scaling limit. We also calculate numerically the Shannon entropy and mutual information for triple-particle and quadruple-particle states in bosonic, fermionic, and XXX chains. We discover that Shannon entropy, unlike entanglement entropy, typically does not separate for quasiparticles with large momentum differences. Moreover, in the limit of large momentum difference, we obtain universal quantum bosonic and fermionic results that are generally distinct and cannot be explained by a semiclassical picture.

Rényi entanglement entropy in fermionic chains

Filiberto Ares, José G. Esteve, Fernando Falceto

In this paper we discuss the asymptotic behavior of the entanglement entropy for a fragment of a fermionic chain in an excited state. We first study the case in which the subsystem consists of a single interval. We review the analytical tools that make the computation feasible, derived from the asymptotics of the determinant of Toeplitz matrices, we also compare with the numerical results and give a physical interpretation of them. Next we move to the case in which the fragment is made of several disjoint intervals. We compute numerically the entropy and, based on these results, we establish a conjecture on the determinant of a submatrix of a Toeplitz matrix that leads to a general expression for the entropy in the multi-interval case. We check that our results agree with those derived from conformal field theory when the latter are available.

Universality in entanglement of quasiparticle excitations

Iztok Pižorn

We show that the entanglement entropy of single quasiparticle excitations of one dimensional systems exceeds the ground state entanglement entropy for log(2), if the correlation length of the system is finite. For quadratic fermion systems we show that the excess of entanglement is related to the number of quasiparticles in the excited state. This observation is confirmed by numerical examples of one dimensional quantum many-body systems, including nonintegrable. Tensor network methods to describe quasiparticle excitations are discussed.
