Hierarchy of Steering Criteria Based on Moments for All Bipartite Quantum Systems

Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen steering is a manifestation of quantum correlations exhibited by quantum systems that allows for entanglement certification when one of the subsystems is not characterized. Detecting the steerability of quantum states is essential to assess their suitability for quantum information protocols with partially trusted devices. We provide a hierarchy of sufficient conditions for the steerability of bipartite quantum states of any dimension, including continuous variable states. Previously known steering criteria are recovered as special cases of our approach. The proposed method allows us to derive optimal steering witnesses for arbitrary families of quantum states and provides a systematic framework to analytically derive nonlinear steering criteria. We discuss relevant examples and, in particular, provide an optimal steering witness for a lossy single-photon Bell state; the witness can be implemented just by linear optics and homodyne detection and detects steering with a higher loss tolerance than any other known method. Our approach is readily applicable to multipartite steering detection and to the characterization of joint measurability.

Steerability detection of an arbitrary two-qubit state via machine learning

Changliang Ren, Changbo Chen

Quantum steering is an important nonclassical resource for quantum information processing. However, even though lots of steering criteria exist, it is still very difficult to efficiently determine whether an arbitrary two-qubit state shared by Alice and Bob is steerable or not, because the optimal measurement directions of Alice are unknown. In this work, we provide an efficient quantum steering detection scheme for an arbitrary two-qubit state with the help of machine learning, where Alice and Bob only need to measure in a few fixed measurement directions. In order to prove the validity of this method, we first realize a high-performance quantum steering classifier with the whole information. Furthermore, a high-performance quantum steering classifier with partial information is realized, where Alice and Bob only need to measure in three fixed measurement directions. Our method outperforms the existing methods in generic cases in terms of both speed and accuracy, opening up the avenues to explore quantum steering via the machine learning approach.

Detecting the steerability through an optimized steering criterion in two-photon systems

Xiao‐Gang Fan, Fa Zhao, Huan Yang +3 more

The steerability of a quantum state can be detected by steering inequalities. The linear steering inequalities show that more steerable states can be discovered with the increase of measurements. In order to detect more steerable states in two-photon systems, we first theoretically derive an optimized steering criterion based on infinity measurements for an arbitrary two-qubit state. The steering criterion is only determined by the spin correlation matrix of the state, and do not require infinity measurements. Then, we prepared the Werner-like states in two-photon systems, and measure their spin correlation matrices. Finally, we apply three steering criteria, which include our steering criterion, the three-measurement steering criterion and the geometric Bell-like inequality, to distinguish the steerability of these states. The results show that our steering criterion can detect the most steerable states under the same experimental conditions. Thus, our work provides a valuable reference for detecting the steerability of quantum states.
