Abstract

One of the main problems in any quantum resource theory is the characterization of the conversions between resources by means of the free operations of the theory. In this work we advance on this characterization within the quantum coherence resource theory by introducing the generalized coherence vector of an arbitrary quantum state. The generalized coherence vector is a probability vector that can be interpreted as a concave roof extension of the pure states coherence vector. We show that it completely characterizes the notions of being incoherent, as well as being maximally coherent. Moreover, using this notion and the majorization relation, we obtain a necessary condition for the conversion of general quantum states by means of incoherent operations. These results generalize the necessary conditions of conversions for pure states given in the literature, and show that the tools of the majorization lattice are useful also in the general case. Finally, we introduce a family of coherence quantifiers by considering concave and symmetric functions applied to the generalized coherence vector. We compare this proposal with the convex roof measure of coherence and others quantifiers given in the literature.

Quantifying coherence in terms of the pure-state coherence

Deng-hui Yu, Li‐qiang Zhang, Chang‐shui Yu

Quantifying quantum coherence is a key task in the resource theory of coherence. Here we establish a good coherence monotone in terms of a state conversion process, which automatically endows the coherence monotone with an operational meaning. We show that any state can be produced from some input pure states via the corresponding incoherent channels. It is found that the coherence of a given state can be well characterized by the least coherence of the input pure states, so a coherence monotone is established by only effectively quantifying the input pure states. In particular, we show that our proposed coherence monotone is the supremum of all the coherence monotones that give the same coherence for any given pure state. We also prove that our coherence monotone is continuous. Considering the convexity, we prove that our proposed coherence measure is a subset of the coherence measure based on the convex roof construction. The similarities and differences between our coherence monotone and coherence cost are studied in detail. As applications, we give a concrete expression of our coherence measure by employing the geometric coherence of a pure state. We also give a thorough analysis of the states of the qubit and finally obtain a series of analytic coherence measures. The numerical examples are also given to show the difference between our coherence monotone and that based on the convex roof construction.

Quantum G-coherence factorization law under fully and strictly incoherent operations

Xinzhi Zhao, Jianwei Shao, Yi Zheng +2 more

Abstract Quantum coherence plays an important role in quantum resource theory, which is strongly related with entanglement. In order to quantify the full coherence of qudit states, we define G-coherence and convex roof of G-coherence, and prove that the G-coherence is a strong coherence monotone and the convex roof of G-coherence is a coherence measure under fully and strictly incoherent operation (FSIO), respectively. Similar to the entanglement factorization law, we prove a coherence factorization law for arbitrary d -dimensional quantum pure and mixed states under FSIO channels, which generalizes the entanglement factorization law for bipartite pure states. Our results will play an important role in the simplification of dynamical coherence measure.

Partial coherence versus entanglement

Sunho Kim, Chunhe Xiong, Shunlong Luo +2 more

We study partial coherence and its connection with entanglement. First, we provide a sufficient and necessary condition for bipartite pure-state transformation under partially incoherent operations: A bipartite pure state can be transformed to another one if and only if a majorization relationship holds between their partial coherence vectors. As a consequence, we introduce the concept of maximal partial coherent states in the sense that they can be used to construct any bipartite state of the same system via partial incoherent operations. Second, we provide a strategy to construct measures of partial coherence by use of symmetric concave functions. Third, we establish the relationship between partial coherence and entanglement. We show that the minimal partial coherence under local unitary transformations is also a measure of entanglement for bipartite pure states, which can be extended to all mixed states by convex-roof extension. Conversely, every entanglement measure can be constructed as a partial coherence measure, and we further show that partial coherence measures are induced through maximal entanglement under partially incoherent operations for bipartite pure states.

Quantum coherence between subspaces: State transformation, cohering power, k coherence, and other properties

Azam Mani, F. Rezazadeh, Vahid Karimipour

The concept of block coherence encompasses the case where experimental capabilities are not so delicate to perform arbitrary refined measurements on individual atoms. We develop a framework which facilitates further investigation of this resource theory in several respects. Using this framework, we investigate the problem of state conversion by incoherent operations and show that a majorization condition is the necessary and sufficient condition for state transformation by block-incoherent operations. We also determine the form of the maximally coherent state from which all other states and all unitary gates can be constructed by incoherent operations. Thereafter, we define the concept of block-cohering and block-decohering powers of quantum channels and determine these powers for several types of channels. Finally, we explore the relation between block coherence and a previous extension of coherence, known as $k$ coherence.

State Convertibility under Genuinely Incoherent Operations

Shuanping Du, Zhaofang Bai

Abstract State convertibility is fundamental in the study of resource theory of quantum coherence. It is aimed at identifying when it is possible to convert a given coherent state to another using only incoherent operations. In this paper, we give a complete characterization of state convertibility under genuinely incoherent operations. It is found that convexity of the robustness of coherence plays a central role. Based on this, the majorization condition of determining convertibility from pure states to mixed states under strictly incoherent operations is provided. Moreover, maximally coherent states in the set of all states with fixed diagonal elements are determined. It is somewhat surprising that convexity of the robustness of coherence can also decide conversion between off-diagonal parts of coherent states. This might be a big step to answer completely the question of state convertibility for mixed states under incoherent operations.

Coherence of assistance and assisted maximally coherent states

Ming‐Jing Zhao, Rajesh Pereira, Teng Ma +1 more

Coherence and entanglement are fundamental concepts in resource theory. The coherence (entanglement) of assistance is the coherence (entanglement) that can be extracted assisted by another party with local measurement and classical communication. We introduce and study the general coherence of assistance. First, in terms of real symmetric concave functions on the probability simplex, the coherence of assistance and the entanglement of assistance are shown to be in one-to-one correspondence. We then introduce two classes of quantum states: the assisted maximally coherent states and the assisted maximally entangled states. They can be transformed into maximally coherent or entangled pure states with the help of another party using local measurement and classical communication. We give necessary conditions for states to be assisted maximally coherent or assisted maximally entangled. Based on these, a unified framework between coherence and entanglement including coherence (entanglement) measures, coherence (entanglement) of assistance, coherence (entanglement) resources is proposed. Then we show that the coherence of assistance as well as entanglement of assistance are strictly larger than the coherence of convex roof and entanglement of convex roof for all full rank density matrices. So all full rank quantum states are distillable in the assisted coherence distillation.
