Abstract

The cooperation between non-Hermiticity and interaction brings about a lot of counterintuitive behaviors, which are impossible to exist in the framework of the Hermitian system. We study the effect of a non-Hermitian impurity on the Hubbard model in the context of $\ensuremath{\eta}$ symmetry. We show that the non-Hermitian Hubbard Hamiltonian can respect a full real spectrum even if a local non-Hermitian impurity is applied to. The balance between dissipation of single fermion and on-site pair fluctuation results in a highest-order coalescing state with off-diagonal long-range order (ODLRO). Based on the characteristic of high-order EP, the critical non-Hermitian Hubbard model allows the generation of such a steady superconducting-like state through the time evolution from an arbitrary initial state, including the vacuum state. Remarkably, this dynamic scheme is insensitive to the on-site interaction and entirely independent of the locations of particle dissipation and pair fluctuation. Our results lay the groundwork for the dynamical generation of a steady ODLRO state through the critical non-Hermitian strongly correlated system.

η -pairing ground states in the non-Hermitian Hubbard model

X. Z. Zhang, Z. Song

The introduction of non-Hermiticity has greatly enriched the research field of traditional condensed matter physics and eventually led to a series of discoveries of exotic phenomena. We investigate the effect of non-Hermitian imaginary hoppings on the Hubbard model. The exact bound-pair solution shows that the electron-electron correlation suppresses the non-Hermiticity, resulting in off-diagonal long-range order (ODLRO) ground state in the attractive Hubbard model. In a large $U$ limit, such non-Hermiticity contributes an extra minus sign in the virtual exchange of the particles. As a consequence, the energy of the effective spin model describing the behavior of the ground state and low energy excitations will be reversed. The corresponding ground state experiences a transition from antiferromagnetism to ferromagnetism characterized by the appearance of a non-decaying correlation function. The numerical result indicates that the $\ensuremath{\eta}$-pairing ground state exits in 1D and 2D systems and is insensitive to the disorder. We further propose a protocol to adiabatically generate the $\ensuremath{\eta}$-pairing state. Our results provide a promising approach for the non-Hermitian strongly correlated system.

Coalescing hardcore-boson condensate states with nonzero momentum

C.H. Zhang, Zhi Song

Exceptional points (EPs), as an exclusive feature of a non-Hermitian system, support coalescing states to be alternative stable state beyond the ground state. In this work, we explore the influence of non-Hermitian impurities on the dynamic formation of condensate states in one-, two-, and three-dimensional extended Bose-Hubbard systems with strong on-site interaction. Based on the solution for the hardcore limit, we show exactly that condensate modes with off-diagonal long-range order (ODLRO) can exist when certain system parameters satisfy specific matching conditions. Under open boundary conditions, the condensate states become coalescing states when the non-Hermitian \mathcal{PT} 𝒫 𝒯 -symmetric boundary gives rise to the EPs. The fundamental mechanism behind this phenomenon is uncovered through analyzing the scattering dynamics of many-particle wavepackets at the non-Hermitian boundaries. The EP dynamics facilitate the dynamic generation of condensate states with non-zero momentum. To further substantiate the theoretical findings, numerical simulations are conducted. This study not only unveils the potential condensation of interacting bosons but also offers an approach for the engineering of condensate states.

Single-site dissipation stabilizes a superconducting nonequilibrium steady state in a strongly correlated system

X. Z. Zhang

Can superconducting order be engineered as a robust attractor of open-system dynamics in strongly correlated systems? We demonstrate this possibility by proposing a minimal dissipation-engineering protocol for the particle-hole symmetric Hubbard model. By applying a rotated quantum jump operator, specifically a locally transformed $η$-pair lowering operator, on a single lattice site only, we show that the Lindblad evolution autonomously pumps the system from the vacuum into a nonequilibrium steady state (NESS) exhibiting macroscopic $η$-pair off-diagonal long-range order (ODLRO). Crucially, this local-to-global synchronization stands in stark contrast to schemes reliant on spatially extensive reservoirs: here, a single local dissipative seed suffices to establish long-range coherence across the entire interacting lattice system. We elucidate the underlying mechanism via three core features: local dark-state selection, the controlled elimination of off-manifold excursions induced by hopping, and a Liouvillian invariant-subspace structure that yields an attractive fixed point with a finite dissipative gap. Furthermore, we systematically classify the stability of this NESS with respect to static disorder, and identify a wide regime in which the superconducting attractor remains robust against Hamiltonian perturbations that preserve the effective subspace structure. We also pinpoint specific perturbations that directly cause dephasing of the $% η$-pseudospin coherence and suppress ODLRO. These findings open up a disorder-tolerant pathway for stabilizing superconducting order as a non-thermal attractor through minimal local quantum-jump control.

Dynamic transition from insulating state to η -pairing state in a composite non-Hermitian system

X. M. Yang, Z. Song

The dynamics of Hermitian many-body quantum systems has long been a challenging subject due to the complexity induced by the particle-particle interactions. In contrast, this difficulty may be avoided in a well-designed non-Hermitian system. The exceptional point (EP) in a non-Hermitian system admits a peculiar dynamics: the final state being a particular eigenstate, coalescing state. In this work, we study the dynamic transition from a trivial insulating state to an $\ensuremath{\eta}$-pairing state in a composite non-Hermitian Hubbard system. The system consists of two subsystems, A and B, which are connected by unidirectional hoppings. We show that the dynamic transition from an insulating state to an $\ensuremath{\eta}$-pairing state occurs by the probability flow from A to B: the initial state is prepared as an insulating state of A, while B is left empty. The final state is an $\ensuremath{\eta}$-pairing state in B but empty in A. Analytical analyses and numerical simulations show that the speed of relaxation of the off-diagonal long-range order pair state depends on the order of the EP, which is determined by the number of pairs and the fidelity of the scheme is immune to the irregularity of the lattice.

Steady off-diagonal long-range order state in a half-filled dimerized Hubbard chain induced by a resonant pulsed field

X. Z. Zhang, Z. Song

We show that a resonant pulsed field can induce a steady superconducting state even in the deep Mott insulating phase of the dimerized Hubbard model. The superconductivity found here in the nonequilibrium steady state is due to the $\ensuremath{\eta}$-pairing mechanism, characterized by the existence of the off-diagonal long-range order (ODLRO), and is absent in the ground-state phase diagram. The key of the scheme lies in the generation of the field-induced charge density wave (CDW) state that is from the valence bond solid. The dynamics of this state resides in the highly excited subspace of the dimerized Hubbard model and is dominated by a $\ensuremath{\eta}$-spin ferromagnetic model. The decay of such long-living excitation is suppressed because of energy conservation. We also develop a dynamical method to detect the ODLRO of the nonequilibrium steady state. Our finding demonstrates that the nonequilibrium many-body dynamics induced by the interplay between the resonant external field and electron-electron interaction is an alternative pathway to access a new exotic quantum state, and also provides an alternative mechanism for enhancing superconductivity.

Non-Hermitian Haldane-Hubbard model: Effective description of one- and two-body dissipation

Can Wang, Tian-Cheng Yi, Jian Li +1 more

Using numerically exact diagonalization, we study the correlated Haldane-Hubbard model in the presence of dissipation. Such dissipation can be modeled at short times by the dynamics governed by an effective non-Hermitian Hamiltonian, of which we present a full characterization. If the dissipation corresponds to a two-body loss, the repulsive interaction of the effective Hamiltonian acquires an imaginary component. A competition between the formation of a charge-ordered Mott insulator state and a topological insulator ensues, but with the non-Hermitian contribution aiding in stabilizing the topologically nontrivial regime, delaying the onset of the formation of a local order parameter. Lastly, we analyze the robustness of the ordered phase by following the full dissipative many-body real-time dynamics. An exponentially fast melting of the charge order occurs, whose characteristic rate is roughly independent of the interaction strength, for the case of one-body dissipation.
