Inelastic neutron scattering experiments are commonly used to unveil how excitations on Heisenberg spin models play a role in dynamical correlations functions. For a certain class of materials, like CsCoCl$_3$ or CsCoBr$_3$ salts, it turns out that their magnetic properties are fairly well approximated by quasi-one dimensional XXZ models, which enjoy the property of quantum integrability. In these instances, one can in principle use their underlying algebraic structure to describe very precisely how excitations, the so-called spinons, participate in dynamical correlations functions. Even though the available theories (either algebraic Bethe ansatz or quantum group approach) provide all the needed physical quantities such as form factors, complete set of eigenstates and spectrum, it is typically a rather daunting task, however, to obtain sufficiently simple analytical expressions for computing Dynamical Structure Factors (DSFs), valuable, e.g., for parameters estimation based on experimental data. This is particularly the case for the longitudinal DSF of the XXZ model, which has eluded a formal mathematical treatment thus far. Using the quantum group approach, we present here an exact and simple expression of the 2-spinon longitudinal DSF and show our results to be consistent with the expected sum rules and the isotropic and Ising antiferromagnet limiting cases.

The research presented here focuses on the theoretical investigation of spinons in quasi one-dimensional quantum spin chains from the perspective of neutron scattering, with emphasis placed on the calculation of dynamic spin structure factors for both unpolarised and polarised incident neutrons. Two anisotropic versions of the Heisenberg spin chain are considered for such an examination: the spin-1/2 antiferromagnetic XXZ model and the spin-1/2 ferromagnetic XYZ model. The XYZ model supports spinon scattering (modelled at finite temperature) and is related to the so-called Villain mode. The introduction of a perturbation in the form of an external transverse magnetic field or Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (DMI) leads to the emergence of incommensurability in the system; such a result is a signature of fractional excitations. The presence of these interactions also give rise to a chiral response associated with the spinons in the polarised term of the scattering cross section. The inelastic scattering cross section is computed for both unpolarised and polarised neutrons. In relation to the antiferromagnetic XXZ model, emphasis is on spinon pair creation (modelled at T=0rmK). Motivated by the presence of a chiral response in the case of the XYZ model mentioned above, a new technique is developed in order to incorporate DMI and the transverse magnetic field so that one can determine if there is a chiral property associated with the two-spinon system. This technique is numerical in nature and is based on Green function methods. Using the results produced by the Green function approach, the inelastic cross section in the presence of an external transverse magnetic field is computed for the first time. The result is compared with experimental neutron scattering data; good agreement is demonstrated between theory and experiments on rmCsCoBr3.Finally, the Green function approach is generalised to account for the interactions between spin chains in magnetic compounds described by a staggered field. Various dynamic structure factors are computed for this scenario with results compared to experiment; good agreement between the theory and experiments on rmRbCoCl3 is shown.
Heisenberg spin-1/2 chains are the archetype of quantum integrable one-dimensional models describing magnetic properties of a wide range of compounds (like the KCuF 3 crystal), which can be probed experimentally through neutron scattering experiments, while being at the same time at the root of the invention of Bethe ansatz and Yang-Baxter structures that led in turn to quantum groups discovery. The aim of this contribution is to describe these algebraic ingredients and to show how to obtain from them (using combined analytical and numerical analysis) dynamical correlation functions of integrable Heisenberg spin-1/2 chains, the Fourier transform of which, the so-called dynamical structure factors, being directly measured in inelastic neutron scattering experiments. Our method is based on the algebraic Bethe ansatz and the resolution of the quantum inverse scattering problem. It leads to recent progress in the computation of integrable Heisenberg spin-1/2 chains correlation functions that we review here. These keywords were added by machine and not by the authors. This process is experimental and the keywords may be updated as the learning algorithm improves.
We revisit our initial derivations of the exact 2-spinon S2 and 4-spinon S4 dynamical structure factors (DSF). First we show that the latter derivations had normalization factors that are twice and quadriple the correct ones respectively. This means that S2 contributes not 72% as was previously thought but 36% to the total DSF. We also calculated the contribution of S4 to be between 18% and 20% and not 27% as was calculated by Caux and Hagemans. In fact we show that the latter reference had also the normalization factor twice the correct value and had it done the numeric integrations correctly it would have obtained a contribution between 36% and 40% for S4. Furthermore, we prove that its claim that our initial derivation of S4 was also incorrect in its dependency on the spectral parameters is incorrect because fixing the momentun transfer k up to 2π as the latter reference did to justify its claim only amounts to mutltiplying the overall factor by 2 because as we will prove in this paper S4 is periodic in k with period 2π. Also in this paper we derive Sn for general n by following a different approach compared to our initial derivation of S4. Although for S4 both the new derivation and the initial one lead to equivalent formulas that are expressed differently, the new form presented in this paper is much more elegant and compact and also reveals new hidden and nontrivial symmetries which substantially simplify the numeric evaluation of S4 and its sum rules. Moreover based on the results of this paper we propose a simple approximation to the total DSF of the Heisenberg model. Finally we comment on how our work might resolve the discrepancy between the exact theoretic results and experiemntal data as reported by Zaliznyak et al.
The exact expression derived by Bougourzi, Couture, and Kacir for the two-spinon contribution to the dynamic spin structure factor S(q,\ensuremath{\omega}) of the one-dimensional s=1/2 Heisenberg antiferromagnet at T=0 is evaluated for direct comparison with finite-chain transition rates (N\ensuremath{\leqslant}28) and an approximate analytical result previously inferred from finite-N data, sum rules, and Bethe ansatz calculations. The two-spinon excitations account for 72.89% of the total intensity in S(q,\ensuremath{\omega}). The singularity structure of the exact result is determined analytically and its spectral-weight distribution evaluated numerically over the entire range of the two-spinon continuum. The leading singularities of the frequency-dependent spin autocorrelation function, static spin structure factor, and q dependent susceptibility are determined via sum rules. The impact of the non-two-spinon excitations on the integrated intensity, the susceptibility, the frequency moments, and the Euclidian time representation of S(q,\ensuremath{\omega}) is studied on the basis of finite-size data.
Dynamical correlation functions contain important physical information on correlated spin models. Here a dynamical theory suitable to the Δ=1 isotropic spin-1/2 Heisenberg chain in a longitudinal magnetic field is extended to anisotropy Δ>1. The aim of this paper is the study of the (k,ω)-plane line shape of the spin dynamical structure factor components S+−(k,ω), S−+(k,ω), and Szz(k,ω) of the Δ>1 spin-1/2 Heisenberg-Ising chain in a longitudinal magnetic field near their (k,ω)-plane sharp peaks. However, the extension of the theory to anisotropy Δ>1 requires as a first step the clarification of the nature of a specific type of elementary magnetic configurations in terms of physical spins 1/2. To reach that goal, that the spin SU(2) symmetry of the isotropic Δ=1 point is in the case of anisotropy Δ>1 replaced by a continuous quantum group deformed q-spin SUq(2) symmetry plays a key role. For Δ>1, spin projection Sz remains a good quantum number whereas spin S is not, being replaced by the q-spin Sq in the eigenvalue of the Casimir generator of the continuous SUq(2) symmetry. Based on the isomorphism between the irreducible representations of the Δ=1 spin SU(2) symmetry and Δ>1 continuous SUq(2) symmetry and on their relation to the occupancy configurations of the Bethe-ansatz quantum numbers one finds that the elementary magnetic configurations under study are q-spin neutral. This determines the form of S matrices on which the extended dynamical theory relies. They are found in this paper to describe the scattering of n-particles whose relation to configurations of physical spins 1/2 is established. Specifically, their internal degrees of freedom refer to unbound q-spin singlet pairs of physical spins 1/2 described by n=1 real single Bethe rapidities and to n=2,3,... bound such q-spin singlet pairs described by Bethe n-strings for n>1. There is a relationship between the negativity and the length of the momentum k interval of the k dependent exponents that control the power-law line shape of the spin dynamical structure factor components near the lower threshold of a given (k,ω)-plane continuum and the amount of spectral weight over the latter. Using such a relationship, one finds that in the thermodynamic limit the significant spectral weight contributions from Bethe n-strings at a finite longitudinal magnetic field refer to specific two-parametric (k,ω)-plane gapped continua in the spectra of the spin dynamical structure factor components S+−(k,ω) and Szz(k,ω). In contrast to the Δ=1 isotropic chain, excited energy eigenstates including up to n=3 Bethe n-strings lead to finite spectral-weight contributions to S+−(k,ω). Most spectral weight stems though from excited energy eigenstates whose q-spin singlet Sz=Sq=0 pairs of physical spins 1/2 are all unbound. It is associated with (k,ω)-plane continua in the spectra of the spin dynamical structure factor components that are gapless at some specific momentum values. We derive analytical expressions for the line shapes of S+−(k,ω), S−+(k,ω), and Szz(k,ω) valid in the vicinity of (k,ω)-plane lines of sharp peaks. Those are mostly located at and just above lower thresholds of (k,ω)-plane continua associated with both states with only unbound q-spin singlet pairs and states populated by such pairs and a single n=2 or n=3 n-particle. Our results provide physically interesting and important information on the microscopic processes that determine the dynamical properties of the non-perturbative spin-1/2 Heisenberg-Ising chain in a longitudinal magnetic field.
We consider the transverse dynamical structure factor of the anisotropic Heisenberg spin-1/2 chain ( XXZ model) in the gapped antiferromagnetic regime (Δ>1). Specializing to the case of zero field, we use two independent approaches based on integrability (one valid for finite size, the other for the infinite lattice) to obtain the exact two-spinon part of this correlator. We discuss in particular its asymmetry with respect to the π/2-momentum line, its overall anisotropy dependence, and its contribution to sum rules.
