Abstract

The uncertainty principle determines the distinction between the classical and the quantum world. This principle states that it is not possible to measure two incompatible observables with the desired accuracy simultaneously. In quantum information theory, the Shannon entropy is used as an appropriate measure to express the uncertainty relation. Improving the bound of the entropic uncertainty relation is of great importance. The bound can be varied by considering an extra quantum system as the quantum memory which is correlated with the measured quantum system. One can extend the bipartite quantum-memory-assisted entropic uncertainty relation to the tripartite one in which the memory is split into two parts. Here, a lower bound is obtained for the tripartite quantum-memory-assisted entropic uncertainty relation. This lower bound has two extra terms compared with the lower bound in Renes and Boileau [J. M. Renes and J.-C. Boileau, Phys. Rev. Lett. 110, 020402 (2013)] which depends on the conditional von Neumann entropy, the Holevo quantity, and the mutual information. It is shown that the bound is tighter than other bounds derived earlier. It also leads to a lower bound for the quantum secret key rate. In addition, it is applied to obtain the states for which both the strong subadditivity and the Koashi-Winter inequalities turn into equalities.

Improved tripartite uncertainty relation with quantum memory

Fei Ming, Dong Wang, Xiao‐Gang Fan +3 more

The uncertainty principle is a striking and fundamental feature in quantum mechanics, distinguishing it from classical mechanics. It offers an important lower bound to predict outcomes of two arbitrary incompatible observables measured on a particle. In quantum information theory, this uncertainty principle is popularly formulized in terms of entropy. Here, we present an improvement of the tripartite quantum-memory-assisted entropic uncertainty relation. The uncertainty's lower bound is derived by considering mutual information and the Holevo quantity. It shows that the bound derived by this method will be tighter than the lower bound of Renes and Boileau [Phys. Rev. Lett. 103, 020402 (2009)]. Furthermore, regarding a pair of mutual unbiased bases as the incompatibility, our bound will become extremely tight for the three-qubit $X$-state system, completely coinciding with the entropy-based uncertainty, and can restore Renes and Boileau's bound with respect to arbitrary tripartite pure states. In addition, by applying our lower bound one can attain the tighter bound of the quantum secret key rate, which is of basic importance to enhance the security of quantum key distribution protocols.

Tighter generalized entropic uncertainty relations in multipartite systems

Lin Wu, Ye Liu, Dong Wang

The uncertainty principle, which demonstrates the intrinsic uncertainty of nature from an information-theory perspective, is at the heart of quantum information theory. In the realm of quantum information theory, Shannon entropy is used to depict the uncertainty relation in general. A tighter lower bound for uncertainty relations facilitates more accurate predictions of measurement outcomes and more robust quantum information processing. Interestingly, the tripartite entropic uncertainty relation (EUR) can be further optimized. Renes et al. proposed a tripartite EUR [J. M. Renes and J.-C. Boileau, Phys. Rev. Lett. 103, 020402 (2009)], and subsequently, Ming et al. strengthened its lower bound in [F. Ming, D. Wang, X.-G. Fan, W.-N. Shi, L. Ye, and J.-L. Chen, Phys. Rev. A 102, 012206 (2020)]. Specifically, we derive a tighter lower bound of the tripartite EUR using the Holevo quantity. Furthermore, we generalize the tripartite EUR, that is, the generalized entropic uncertainty relation for multiple measurements in multipartite systems. As illustrations, we provide several typical examples to show that our bound is tight and outperforms the previous bound. Furthermore, our findings pave the way for using the tighter bound for the quantum secret key rate in quantum key distribution protocols and are essential for quantum precision measurements in the framework of genuine multipartite systems. By providing a close peek at the nature of uncertainty, our results may find broad applications in the security analysis of quantum cryptography.

Entropic uncertainty relations with quantum memory in a multipartite scenario

Qinghua Zhang, Shao-Ming Fei

Entropic uncertainty relations demonstrate the intrinsic uncertainty of nature from an information-theory perspective. Recently, a quantum-memory-assisted entropic uncertainty relation for multiple measurements was proposed by Wu et al. [Phys. Rev. A 106, 062219 (2022)]. Interestingly, the quantum-memory-assisted entropic uncertainty relation for multiple measurement settings can be further generalized. In this work, we propose two complementary multipartite quantum-memory-assisted entropic uncertainty relations and our lower bounds depend on values of complementarity of the observables, (conditional) von Neumann entropies, Holevo quantities, and mutual information. As an illustration, we provide several typical cases to exhibit that our bounds are tighter and outperform the previous bounds.

Tighter entropic uncertainty relations in the presence of quantum memories for complete sets of mutually unbiased bases

Qing-Hua Zhang, Cong Xu, Jing-Feng Wu +1 more

Entropic uncertainty relations provide an information-theoretic framework for quantifying the fundamental indeterminacy inherent in quantum mechanics. We propose more stringent quantum-memory-assisted entropic uncertainty relations for complete sets of mutually unbiased bases in multipartite scenarios. We present lower and upper bounds of the quantum uncertainties based on the complementarity of the observables, the purity of the measured state, the (conditional) von-Neumann entropies, the Holevo quantities and mutual information. The results are illustrated by several representative cases, showing that our bounds are tighter than and outperform previously existing bounds.

Lower and upper bounds for unilateral coherence and applying them to the entropic uncertainty relations

Hazhir Dolatkhah, Soroush Haseli, S. Salimi +1 more

The uncertainty principle sets a bound on our ability to predict the measurement outcomes of two incompatible observables which are measured on a quantum particle simultaneously. In quantum information theory, the uncertainty principle can be formulated in terms of the Shannon entropy. Entropic uncertainty bound can be improved by adding a particle which correlates with the measured particle. The added particle acts as a quantum memory. In this work, a method is provided for obtaining the entropic uncertainty relations in the presence of a quantum memory by using quantum coherence. In the method, firstly, one can use the quantum relative entropy of quantum coherence to obtain the uncertainty relations. Secondly, these relations are applied to obtain the entropic uncertainty relations in the presence of a quantum memory. In comparison with other methods this approach is much simpler. Also, for a given state, the upper bounds on the sum of the relative entropies of unilateral coherences are provided, and it is shown which one is tighter. In addition, using the upper bound obtained for unilateral coherence, the nontrivial upper bound on the sum of the entropies for different observables is derived in the presence of a quantum memory.

Control of quantum memory assisted entropic uncertainty lower bound for topological qubits in open quantum system through environment

Soroush Haseli, Hazhir Dolatkhah, Hossein Rangani Jahromi +2 more

The uncertainty principle is one of the most important issues that clarify the distinction between classical and quantum theory. This principle sets a bound on our ability to predict the measurement outcome of two incompatible observables precisely. Uncertainty principle can be formulated via Shannon entropies of the probability distributions of measurement outcome of the two observables. It has shown that the entopic uncertainty bound can be improved by considering an additional particle as the quantum memory $B$ which has correlation with the measured particle $A$. In this work we consider the memory assisted entropic uncertainty for the case in which the quantum memory and measured particle are topological qubits. In our scenario the topological quantum memory $B$, is considered as an open quantum system which interacts with its surrounding. The motivation for this model is associated with the fact that the basis of the memory-assisted entropic uncertainty relation is constructed on the correlation between quantum memory $B$ and measured particle $A$. In the sense that, Bob who holds the quantum memory $B$ can predict Alice's measurement results on particle $A$ more accurately, when the amount of correlation between $A$ and $B$ is great. Here, we want to find the influence of environmental effects on uncertainty bound while the quantum memory interacts with its surrounding. In this work we will consider Ohmic-like Fermionic and Bosonic environment. We have also investigate the effect of the Fermionic and Bosonic environment on the lower bounds of the amount of the key that can be extracted per state by Alice and Bob for quantum key distribution protocols.
