Current Trends in Quantum Optics

Subhashish Banerjee, Arun M. Jayannavar

Here we review some of the recent developments in Quantum Optics. After a brief introduction to the historical development of the subject, we discuss some of the modern aspects of quantum optics including atom field interactions, quantum state engineering, metamaterials and plasmonics, optomechanical systems, PT (Parity-Time) symmetry in quantum optics as well as quasi-probability distributions and quantum state tomography. Further, the recent developments in topological photonics is briefly discussed. The potent role of the subject in the development of our understanding of quantum physics and modern technologies is brought out.

Delay time and the Hartman effect in double-barrier tunneling

Natalia M. Litchinitser, John R. Valenzuela, Herbert G. Winful

A relation between the phase time and the dwell time in double-barrier tunneling is investigated under the resonant and the off-resonant conditions. The role and physical meaning of the self-interference delay is discussed. The Hartman effect is examined in double-barrier geometry and a physical explanation for the phenomenon is developed.

An understanding of some properties of wave functions in PT-symmetry using (2x2) matrix model

Biswanath Rath

We propose a new CCS(complex-conjugate-space) to understand the behaviour of wave functions in non-hermitian PT-symmetry model in quantum mechanics. As an example of this ,we consider previous Bender,Brody and Jones model PT-symmetry operaor . In non-conventional way one can notice that wave functions in a PTsymmetry model satifies similar relations as in hermitian operator .
