Dissipative Rabi model in the dispersive regime

Abstract

This paper presents analytic results on the dispersive regime of the dissipative Rabi model, without taking the rotating wave approximation of the underlying Hamiltonian. The analytic expressions for all dynamical parameters show qualitative differences at intermediate and large detuning, which allows the author to update the model of the interaction between qubits and resonators.

Qubit-oscillator dynamics in the dispersive regime: Analytical theory beyond the rotating-wave approximation

David Zueco, Georg M. Reuther, Sigmund Kohler +1 more

We generalize the dispersive theory of the Jaynes-Cummings model beyond the frequently employed rotating-wave approximation (RWA) in the coupling between the two-level system and the resonator. For a detuning sufficiently larger than the qubit-oscillator coupling, we diagonalize the non-RWA Hamiltonian and discuss the differences to the known RWA results. Our results extend the regime in which dispersive qubit readout is possible. If several qubits are coupled to one resonator, an effective qubit-qubit interaction of Ising type emerges, whereas RWA leads to isotropic $XY$ interaction. This impacts on the entanglement characteristics of the qubits.

Dissipative dynamics of qubits driven by a bichromatic field in the dispersive regime

A. P. Saǐko, Ryhor Fedaruk, A Kolasa +1 more

We study the coherent dynamics of relaxing qubits driven by a bichromatic radiation in the dispersive regime, when detuning of the frequency $ω_{rf}$ of a longitudinal radiofrequency field from the Rabi frequency $ω_{1}$ in a transverse microwave field is comparable in magnitude to $ω_{rf}$ and $ω_{1}$. We analytically describe this regime beyond the rotating wave approximation and find that the dominant feature of dynamics of qubits is the shift of the Rabi frequency caused by the dynamical Zeeman and Bloch-Siegert-like effects. These fundamental effects can be experimentally separated because, unlike the Bloch-Siegert effect, the dynamical Zeeman effect depends on the detuning sign. Our theoretical results are in a good agreement with the experimental data obtained in pulse EPR for the $E'_{1}$ centers in crystalline quartz.

Approximate analytic solution of the dissipative semiclassical Rabi model under parametric multi-tone modulations

A. Marinho, Alexandre V. Dodonov

Abstract We present an analytic method for obtaining the dynamics of the dissipative time-modulated semiclassical Rabi model, which describes a two-level system (qubit) with time-dependent parameters, coupled to a single-mode bosonic field via the dipole-interaction and to a thermal reservoir. We consider the simultaneous harmonic modulations of the qubit transition frequency and the qubit-field coupling strength, with arbitrary frequencies, and obtain closed analytic expressions for the density operator under the coarse-graining approximation. Our approximate results are in excellent ageement with exact numerical data, and illustrate how the qubit state can be controlled in the dispersive regime by properly adjusting the system parameters.

Two Qubits Tavis-Cummings Model Beyond the Rotating Wave Approximation: Degenerate Regime

Shantanu Agarwal, Seyed Mohammad Hashemi Rafsanjani, Joseph H. Eberly

We study the dynamics of two qubits interacting with a single mode of a harmonic oscillator beyond the rotating wave approximation in the ideally degenerate regime. Exact analytic expressions are obtained for state properties of interest, including qubit entanglement for a certain class of initial states of the oscillator and the qubits. Qualitative differences and similarities in the evolution of the qubits in the degenerate regime when the oscillator is treated quantum mechanically and classically are discussed.

Dissipation of the Rabi model beyond the Jaynes–Cummings approximation: quasi-degenerate qubit and ultra-strong coupling

Shantanu Agarwal, Seyed Mohammad Hashemi Rafsanjani, Joseph H. Eberly

Environmental influences on the dynamics of a coupled qubit-oscillator system are studied analytically in a regime where deviations from the exactly solvable Jaynes–Cummings model are important. We investigate the case of a quasi-degenerate qubit within the ultra-strong coupling regime for which the qubit frequency is much smaller than the frequency of the oscillator, and the coupling between the qubit and the oscillator is large, both of which invalidate the usually employed rotating wave approximation. In contrast to the standard quantum optics master equation, we explicitly take the qubit-oscillator coupling into account while microscopically deriving a dressed state master equation. Using the derived master equation, we discuss a spectroscopic technique which can be used to probe the dressed energy-level structure of the qubit-oscillator system.

Floquet dynamics of the Rabi model beyond the counter-rotating hybridized rotating-wave method

Yingying Han, Shuanghao Zhang, Meijuan Zhang +3 more

Monochromatically driven two-level systems (i.e., Rabi models) are ubiquitous in various fields of physics. Though they have been exactly solved, the physical pictures in these exact solutions are not clear. Recently, approximate analytical solutions with neat physics have been obtained by using the counter-rotating hybridized rotating wave (CHRW) method, which has been proven to be effective over a wider range of parameters than the previous analytical solutions. However, the CHRW depends on a parameter $\ensuremath{\xi}$, which has no solution in some regimes. Here, we combine the double-unitary-transformation approach with the generalized Van Vleck nearly degenerate perturbation theory, and present approximate analytical results with clear physics for almost all parameter regimes, which agree well with the numerical solutions and the previous experimental results. Moreover, the dynamic frequencies of the Rabi model are regular, and the frequency with the highest Fourier amplitude changes from the Rabi frequency to $2n\ensuremath{\omega}$ with driving frequency $\ensuremath{\omega}$ and integer $n$, as the driving intensity increases from weak to deep-strong. In addition, we further explore the Floquet dynamics of the dissipative open Rabi model. Remarkably, the dissipations are tunable in the rotating frame, and the approximate analytical results obtained by our method are in good agreement with the numerical results in the strong driving regime. These results pave the way to quantum control using strong and deep-strong driving with applications in quantum technologies.
