On maps which preserve semipositivity and quantifier elimination theory for real numbers

Grzegorz Pastuszak, Adam Skowyrski, Andrzej Jamiołkowski

Assume that [Formula: see text] is a superoperator which preserves hermiticity. We give an algorithm determining whether [Formula: see text] preserves semipositivity (we call [Formula: see text] positive in this case). Our approach to the problem has a model-theoretic nature, namely, we apply techniques of quantifier elimination theory for real numbers. An approach based on these techniques seems to be the only one that allows to decide whether an arbitrary hermiticity-preserving [Formula: see text] is positive. Before we go to detailed analysis of the problem, we argue that quantifier elimination for real numbers (and also for complex numbers) can play a significant role in quantum information theory and other areas as well.

Full- and Low-Rank Exponential Euler Integrators for the Lindblad Equation

Hao Chen, Alfio Borzı̀, Denis Janković +2 more

Abstract. The Lindblad equation is a widely used quantum master equation to model the dynamical evolution of open quantum systems whose states are described by density matrices. These solution matrices are characterized by semipositiveness and trace preserving properties, which must be guaranteed in any physically meaningful numerical simulation. In this paper, novel full- and low-rank exponential Euler integrators are developed for approximating the Lindblad equation that preserve positivity and trace unconditionally. Theoretical results are presented that provide sharp error estimates for the two classes of exponential integration methods. Results of numerical experiments are discussed that illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed schemes, beyond present state-of-the-art capabilities.

Influence of Noninertial Dynamics on Static Quantum Resource Theories

Saveetha Harikrishnan, Tim Byrnes, Chandrashekar Radhakrishnan

The effect of noninertial dynamics on static quantum resource theories is investigated. To this end, we first show the equivalence between noninertial effects and a completely positive, trace-preserving (CPTP) map. In this formulation, the Unruh effect is equivalent to a bosonic amplifier channel. The effect of this map on a generic quantum resource is investigated by studying the role of the CPTP map on the three core ingredients of a resource theory, namely, the free states, the free operations and the resource quantifiers. We show several general statements can be made about these three components of a resource theory in the presence of noninertial motion.
