Abstract

Abstract A 1D cluster model with next-nearest-neighbor interactions and two additional composite interactions is solved; the free energy is obtained and a correlation function is derived exactly. The model is diagonalized by a transformation obtained automatically from its interactions, which is an algebraic generalization of the Jordan–Wigner transformation. The gapless condition is expressed as a condition on the roots of a cubic equation, and the phase diagram is obtained exactly. We find that the distribution of roots for this algebraic equation determines the existence of long-range order, and we again obtain the ground-state phase diagram. We also derive the central charges of the corresponding conformal field theory. Finally, we note that our results are universally valid for an infinite number of solvable spin chains whose interactions obey the same algebraic relations.

Infinite number of solvable generalizations of XY-chain, with cluster state, and with central charge c=m/2

Kazuhiko Minami

An infinite number of spin chains are solved and it is derived that the ground-state phase transitions belong to the universality classes with central charge c = m / 2 , where m is an integer. The models are diagonalized by automatically obtained transformations, many of which are different from the Jordan–Wigner transformation. The free energies, correlation functions, string order parameters, exponents, central charges, and the phase diagram are obtained. Most of the examples consist of the stabilizers of the cluster state. A unified structure of the one-dimensional XY and cluster-type spin chains is revealed, and other series of solvable models can be obtained through this formula.

Topological phase transition in the extended cluster compass ladder

Rouhollah Jafari, S. Mahdavifar

We have studied the exact solution of the extended cluster compass ladder, which is equivalent to the extended quantum compass model with cluster interaction between next-nearest-neighbor spins, by using the Jordan–Wigner transformation. We show that this model is always gapful except at the critical surfaces where the energy gap disappears. We obtain the analytic expressions of all critical couplings which drive quantum phase transitions. This model shows a rich phase diagram which includes spin-flop, strip antiferromagnetic, and topological ordered on the legs, in addition to the phase with antiparallel ordering of the spin |$y$| component on the rungs. We also study the universality and scaling properties of the three point correlation function derivatives in different regions to confirm the results obtained using the energy gap analysis. On the other hand, we have replaced the cluster interaction with the usual form and using the Lanczos method a numerical experiment is done. Analyzing the numerical results, we show that the effect of the cluster interaction between next-nearest-neighbor spins is completely different from the usual form.

Exactly solvable interacting spin-ice vertex model

Anderson A. Ferreira, Francisco Castilho Alcaraz

A special family of solvable five-vertex model is introduced on a square lattice. In addition to the usual nearest-neighbor interactions, the vertices defining the model also interact along one of the diagonals of the lattice. This family of models includes in a special limit the standard six-vertex model. The exact solution of these models is an application of the matrix product ansatz introduced recently and applied successfully in the solution of quantum chains. The phase diagram and the free energy of the models are calculated in the thermodynamic limit. The models exhibit massless phases, and our analytical and numerical analyses indicate that such phases are governed by a conformal field theory with central charge c=1 and continuously varying critical exponents.

Phase diagram of the mixed spin Ising model with four-spin interaction and nextnearest neighbor couplings

Majid Mouhib, Mouhcine Azhari, Noureddine Benayad

The phase diagrams of the ferromagnetic two-dimensional mixed spin-1 and spin-1/2 Ising model with four-spin interaction J4 and next-nearest couplings J’ are investigated by the use of the finite cluster approximation based on single-site cluster theory. The state equations are derived for the two-dimensional square lattice. The phase diagram is qualitatively and quantitatively different from that obtained when the interaction J’ is ignored. In fact, the system exhibits a variety of interesting features resulting from the introduction of the next-nearest neighbor interaction (NNN). It undergoes two kinds of behavior according to the negative and the positive value of J’. In particular, for J4/J2=-4, the system keeps the coexistence of the two ground state up to J’-dependent finite temperature.

Exact Solution for the Interacting Kitaev Chain at the Symmetric Point

Jian-Jian Miao, Hui-Ke Jin, Fu‐Chun Zhang +1 more

The Kitaev chain model with a nearest neighbor interaction U is solved exactly at the symmetry point Δ=t and chemical potential μ=0 in an open boundary condition. By applying two Jordan-Wigner transformations and a spin rotation, such a symmetric interacting model is mapped onto a noninteracting fermion model, which can be diagonalized exactly. The solutions include a topologically nontrivial phase at |U|<t and a topologically trivial phase at |U|>t. The two phases are related by dualities. Quantum phase transitions in the model are studied with the help of the exact solution.

Two-Dimensional Spin-1/2 J1 – J'1 – J2 Heisenberg Model within Jordan–Wigner Transformation

O. R. Baran, Taras Verkholyak

The Jordan–Wigner transformation is applied to the spatially anisotropic spin-1/2 Heisenberg model on a square lattice with the nearest-neighbor and next-nearest-neighbor antiferromagnetic interactions. The transformed Hamiltonian describes the interacting spinless fermions that hop between neighbor sites in a gauge field. Using the mean-field-type approximation to both the direct interaction between fermions and the phase factors, which represent the gauge field, the problem is reduced to that concerning a free Fermi gas. Two types of antiferromagnetic ordering (the N´eel and collinear ones) are considered. By calculating the ground-state energies, the phase transitions induced by the interaction frustration were analyzed.
