New quantumness domains through generalized squeezed states

Abstract

Abstract Current definitions of both squeezing operator and squeezed vacuum state are critically examined on the grounds of consistency with the underlying su(1,1) algebraic structure. Accordingly, the generalized coherent states for su(1,1) in its Schwinger two-photon realization are proposed as squeezed states. The physical implication of this assumption is that two additional degrees of freedom become available for the control of quantum optical systems. The resulting physical predictions are evaluated in terms of quadrature squeezing and photon statistics, while the application to a Mach–Zehnder interferometer is discussed to show the emergence of nonclassical regions, characterized by negative values of Mandel’s parameter, which cannot be anticipated by the current formulation, and then outline future possible use in quantum technologies.

Engineering nonclassical SU (1,1) coherent states of light by multiphoton excitation

Sunia Javed, Hadiah Bint Monir, Naila Amir +1 more

Abstract Quantum optical systems with nonclassical features play a vital role in the physical implementation of a large variety of quantum technologies, such as quantum metrology, quantum information processing, and quantum computation protocols, and hence are important to exploit the quantum advantage. In this work, we construct a general class of nonclassical coherent states (CSs) of light and present a scheme to enhance their nonclassicality by multiphoton excitation. In particular, using various optical realizations of s u ( 1 , 1 ) Lie algebra, we construct CSs of light following Barut-Girardello formalism and then perform the multiphoton discrete excitation on these continuous-variable optical CSs. We investigate the nonclassical features by analyzing the photon-counting probability distribution, Mandel Q − parameter, quadrature squeezing, and Wigner quasi-probability distribution. Our numerical results show that, for a particular set of parametric values, these multiphoton excited states exhibit sub-Poisson photon-counting statistics, quadrature squeezing, and negativity of Wigner distribution, which are indicators of nonclassicality. Moreover, it is shown that the nonclassical nature of these states gets enhanced as the photon-excitation number increases.

Nonclassicality and Phase Estimation of Hybrid Squeezed States

Mohammad Bohloul, Jia-Xin Peng, Mohamed Amazioug +2 more

Abstract We present a theoretical study on the generation and nonclassical properties of hybrid squeezed states (HSS), a class of engineered quantum states with enhanced quantum features. Using a modified beam splitter-Kerr medium scheme, we construct superpositions of squeezed vacuum and two-photon-added squeezed states, providing a flexible framework to generate and control hybrid quantum states. Nonclassicality is analysed via Mandel's $Q$ parameter, photon number distributions, probability distribution functions, and Wigner functions, revealing sub-Poissonian statistics, oscillatory photon distributions, and significant Wigner negativity. Phase-sensitivity analysis within a Mach-Zehnder interferometric framework demonstrates that HSS outperform conventional squeezed and photon-added squeezed states, achieving measurement precisions that exceed the standard quantum limit and approach the Heisenberg limit under optimal parameters. These results establish hybrid squeezed states as a powerful resource for quantum metrology, communication, and optical interferometry.

Generalized photon-subtracted squeezed vacuum states

Sanjib Dey, Sarika S Nair

Abstract We construct a generalized version of the photon-subtracted squeezed vacuum states (PSSVS), which can be utilized to construct the same for nonlinear, deformed and any usual quantum mechanical models beyond the harmonic oscillator. We apply our general framework to trigonometric Pöschl–Teller potential and show that our method works accurately and produces a proper nonclassical state. We analyze the nonclassicality of the state using three different approaches, namely, quadrature squeezing, photon number squeezing and Wigner function and indicate how the standard definitions of those three techniques can be generalized and utilized to examine the nonclassicality of any generalized quantum optical states including the PSSVS. We observe that the generalized PSSVS are always more nonclassical than those arising from the harmonic oscillator. Moreover, within some quantification schemes, we find that the nonclassicality of the PSSVS increases almost proportionally with the number of photons subtracted from the generalized squeezed vacuum state. Thus, generalized PSSVS may provide an additional freedom with which one can regulate the nonclassicality and obtain an appropriate nonclassical state as per requirement.

Enhanced quantum features of non-Gaussian states by applying a two-mode squeezing operator to two generalized single-mode squeezed vacuum states

Truong Minh Duc, Dinh Phuoc Le, Tran Quang Dat +1 more

Abstract This paper investigates the quantum features of non-Gaussian states generated by applying a two-mode squeezing operator S ˆ a b ( s ) to two generalized single-mode squeezed vacuum states (SVSs), each formed by the superposition of an SVS and a single–photon–subtracted SVS. The results show that, in the new states, the two-mode squeezing effect, the Einstein–Podolsky–Rosen (EPR) correlation, the Hillery–Zubairy entanglement, and the linear entropy are all enhanced as the two-mode squeezing parameter s increases. Moreover, both the degrees of squeezing and entanglement are improved and exceed those of the two-mode squeezed vacuum state (TMSVS) for stronger single-mode squeezing parameters. The optimal conditions for achieving such enhancements are identified for different regimes, depending on whether the generalized SVSs are purely Gaussian, maximally non-Gaussian, or intermediate states. In an application, the quantum Cramér–Rao bound (QCRB) is evaluated when the non-Gaussian states are employed as inputs to a Mach–Zehnder interferometer (MZI). The results further demonstrate that the enhanced phase sensitivity in the MZI originates from both the squeezing strengths and the intrinsic photon-subtraction operation. These findings highlight the potential of the new non-Gaussian states as promising resources for quantum metrology and quantum sensing.

Enhancing nonclassical features in qubit superposed single-mode squeezed vacuum states

Quang Dat Tran

Abstract Recently, photon subtraction from the single-mode squeezed vacuum state (SVS) has been explored as a technique to enhance its squeezing strength (SS). Notably, the enhancement is observed only when an even number of photons is subtracted, and this effect is limited to a specific range of the squeezing parameter r. In this paper, we introduce a novel class of single-mode nonclassical states, termed as qubit superposed SVSs (qSSVSs), via the coherent superposition of a SVS and a single-photon-subtracted SVS. The primary objective of this work is to enhance the SS for any r > 0 through the creation of these superposed states. Our analysis reveals that the qSSVSs not only improve the SS but also exhibit enhanced nonclassical features such as the negativity of Wigner function, single-mode antibunching effect, photon-number distribution, and sub-Poissonian photon statistics. Furthermore, we demonstrate that the qSSVSs provide superior phase sensitivity in a quantum Mach–Zehnder interferometer compared to the original SVS. Importantly, the generation of qSSVSs is feasible using readily available optical devices, including a beam splitter, a photodetector, and an amplitude displacement. These states hold significant potential for practical applications in quantum information science, particularly for tasks such as information encoding and processing in quantum computing systems.

Non-classicalities exhibited by the superposition of Schrödinger’s cat state with the vacuum of the optical field

Karunesh Kumar Mishra, Dhiraj Yadav, Gaurav K. Shukla +1 more

Abstract Superposition of two coherent states, the Schrodinger’s cat state, can exhibit different nonclassical properties having foundational applications in quantum information processing. We consider the ‘superposition of Schrodinger’s cat state with the vacuum state (SCVS)’ of the optical field. We discuss different witness of nonclassicality properties such as lower- and higher-order squeezing (viz., squeezing, Hong & Mandel’s fourth-order squeezing, amplitude-squared squeezing) and sub-Poissonian photon statistics. Further, we discuss the negativity of the Wigner function of SCVS indicating the nonclassicality of the state under investigation. We find that the vacuum state contribution in SCVS exhibits different nonclassicalities under some conditions stronger where the nonclassicalities exhibited by the state without vacuum state contribution are weaker.
