Abstract

Abstract We initiate a study of subregion dualities, entropy, and redundant encoding of bulk points in holographic theories deformed by $$ T\overline{T} $$ T T ¯ and its generalizations. This includes both cut off versions of Anti de Sitter spacetime, as well as the generalization to bulk de Sitter spacetime, for which we introduce two additional examples capturing different patches of the bulk and incorporating the second branch of the square root dressed energy formula. We provide new calculations of entanglement entropy (EE) for more general divisions of the system than the symmetric ones previously available. We find precise agreement between the gravity side and deformed-CFT side results to all orders in the deformation parameter at large central charge. An analysis of the fate of strong subadditivity for relatively boosted regions indicates nonlocality reminiscent of string theory. We introduce the structure of operator algebras in these systems. The causal and entanglement wedges generalize to appropriate deformed theories but exhibit qualitatively new behaviors, e.g. the causal wedge may exceed the entanglement wedge. This leads to subtleties which we express in terms of the Hamiltonian and modular Hamiltonian evolution. Finally, we exhibit redundant encoding of bulk points, including the cosmological case.

Holographic T T ¯ deformation of the entanglement entropy in ( A ) dS 3 / CFT 2

Jing-Cheng Chang, Song He, Yu-Xiao Liu +1 more

In recent years, the holographic duality between T T ¯ -deformed conformal field theory (CFT) and Anti-de Sitter (AdS) spacetime with finite radial cutoff has received significant attention. The study of T T ¯ deformation within the framework of de Sitter (dS)/CFT duality has also progressed. This paper shows that the trace flow equation in dS spacetime can be analytically extended from its AdS counterpart through double Wick rotations. Meanwhile, we generalize the replica method in both AdS and dS holography to derive a general expression for the entanglement entropy of arbitrary single spatial intervals within the T T ¯ -deformed framework. For both finite size and finite temperature systems, we obtain the analytical expression for the entanglement entropy after T T ¯ deformation. Finally, in dS/dS holography and half-dS holography, we find that the dual field theory exhibits nonlocality by analyzing the strong subadditivity and boosted strong subadditivity of entanglement entropy.

Bulk emergence and the RG flow of entanglement entropy

Thomas Faulkner

We further develop perturbative methods used to calculate entanglement entropy (EE) away from an interacting CFT fixed point. At second order we find certain universal terms in the renormalized EE which were predicted previously from holography and which we find hold universally for relevant deformations of any CFT in any dimension. We use both replica methods and direct methods to calculate the EE and in both cases find a non-local integral expression involving the CFT two point function. We show that this integral expression can be written as a local integral over a higher dimensional bulk modular hamiltonian in an emergent AdS space-time. This bulk modular hamiltonian is associated to an emergent scalar field dual to the deforming operator. We generalize to arbitrary spatially dependent couplings where a linearized metric emerges naturally as a way of efficiently encoding the field theory entanglement: by demanding that Einstein’s equations coupled to the bulk scalar field are satisfied, we show that EE can be calculated as the area of this metric. Not only does this show a direct emergence of a higher dimensional gravitational theory from any CFT, it allows for effective evaluation of the the integrals required to calculate EE perturbativly. Our results can also be interpreted as relating the non-locality of the modular hamiltonian for a spherical region in non-CFTs and the non-locality of the holographic bulk to boundary map.

$T\overline{T}$, the entanglement wedge cross section, and the breakdown of the split property

Meseret Asrat, Jonah Kudler-Flam

We consider fine-grained probes of the entanglement structure of two-dimensional conformal field theories deformed by the irrelevant double-trace operator $T\overline{T}$ and its closely related but nonetheless distinct single-trace counterpart. For holographic conformal field theories, these deformations can be interpreted as modifications of bulk physics in the ultraviolet region of anti-de Sitter space. Consequently, we can use the Ryu-Takayanagi formula and its generalizations to mixed state entanglement measures to test highly nontrivial consistency conditions. In general, the agreement between bulk and boundary quantities requires the equivalence of partition functions on manifolds of arbitrary genus. For the single-trace deformation, which is dual to an asymptotically linear dilaton geometry, we find that the mutual information and reflected entropy diverge for disjoint intervals when the separation distance approaches a minimum, finite value that depends solely on the deformation parameter. This implies that the mutual information fails to serve as a geometric regulator which is related to the breakdown of the split property at the inverse Hagedorn temperature. In contrast, for the double-trace deformation, which is dual to anti-de Sitter space with a finite radial cutoff, we find all divergences to disappear including the standard quantum field theory ultraviolet divergence that is generically seen as disjoint intervals become adjacent. We furthermore compute reflected entropy in conformal perturbation theory. While we find formally similar behavior between bulk and boundary computations, we find quantitatively distinct results. We comment on the interpretation of these disagreements and the physics that must be altered to restore consistency. We also briefly discuss the $T\overline{J}$ and $J\overline{T}$ deformations.

Entanglement Entropy and Higher Spin Holography in AdS3

Jan De Boer A, Juan I. Jottar

A holographic correspondence has been recently developed between higher spin theories in three-dimensional anti-de Sitter space (AdS3) and two-dimensional Conformal Field Theories (CFTs) with extended symmetries. A class of such dualities involves SL(N, R) × SL(N, R) Chern-Simons gauge theories in the (2 + 1)-dimensional bulk space-time, and CFTs with WN symmetry algebras on the (1 + 1)-dimensional boundary. The topological character of the bulk theory forces one to reconsider standard geometric notions such as black hole horizons and entropy, as well as the usual holographic dictionary. Motivated by this challenge, in this note we present a proposal to compute entanglement entropy in the WN CFTs via holographic methods. In particular, we introduce a functional constructed from Wilson lines in the bulk Chern-Simons theory that captures the entanglement entropy in the CFTs dual to standard AdS3 gravity, corresponding to SL(2, R) × SL(2, R) gauge group, and admits an immediate generalization to the higher spin case. We explicitly evaluate this functional for several known solutions of the bulk theory, including charged black holes dual to thermal CFT states carrying higher spin charge, and show that it reproduces expected features of entanglement entropy, study whether it obeys strong subadditivity, and moreover show that it reduces to the thermal entropy in the appropriate limit.

Subregion-subalgebra duality: Emergence of space and time in holography

Samuel Leutheusser, Hong Liu

In holographic duality, a higher dimensional quantum gravity system emerges from a lower dimensional conformal field theory (CFT) with a large number of degrees of freedom. We propose a formulation of duality for a general causally complete bulk spacetime region, called subregion-subalgebra duality, which provides a framework to describe how geometric notions in the gravity system, such as spacetime subregions, different notions of times, and causal structure, emerge from the dual CFT. Subregion-subalgebra duality generalizes and brings new insights into subregion-subregion duality (or equivalently entanglement wedge reconstruction). It provides a mathematically precise definition of subregion-subregion duality and gives an independent definition of entanglement wedges without using entropy. Geometric properties of entanglement wedges, including those that play a crucial role in interpreting the bulk as a quantum error correcting code, can be understood from the duality as the geometrization of the superadditivity of certain algebras. Using general boundary subalgebras rather than those associated with geometric subregions makes it possible to find duals for general bulk spacetime regions, including those not touching the boundary. Applying subregion-subalgebra duality to a boundary state describing a single-sided black hole also provides a precise way to define mirror operators.
