Abstract

Abstract We compute concurrence, a measure of bipartite entanglement, of the first excited state of the 1-D Heisenberg frustrated J 1 - J 2 spin-chain and observe a sudden change in the entanglement of the eigen state near the coupling strength α = J 2 / J 1 ≈ 0.241, where a quantum phase transition from spin-fluid phase to dimer phase has been previously reported. We numerically observe this phenomena for spin-chain with 8 sites to 16 sites, and the value of α at which the change in entanglement is observed, asymptotically tends to a value α c ≈ 0.24116. We have calculated the finite-size scaling exponents for spin chains with even and odd spins. It may be noted that bipartite as well as multipartite entanglement measures applied on the ground state of the system, fail to detect any quantum phase transition from the gapless to the gapped phase in the 1-D Heisenberg frustrated J 1 - J 2 spin-chain. Furthermore, we measure bipartite entanglement of first excited states for other spin models like 2-D Heisenberg J 1 - J 2 model and Shastry-Sutherland model and find similar indications of quantum phase transitions.

We compute concurrence, a measure of bipartite entanglement, of the first excited state of the $1$-D Heisenberg frustrated $J_1$-$J_2$ spin-chain and observe a sudden change in the entanglement of the eigen state near the coupling strength $\alpha=J_2/J_1\approx0.241$, where a quantum phase transition from spin-fluid phase to dimer phase has been previously reported. We numerically observe this phenomena for spin-chain with $8$ sites to $16$ sites, and the value of $\alpha$ at which the change in entanglement is observed asymptotically tends to a value $\alpha_c\approx0.24116$. Estimating phase transition of perturbed J1−J2 Heisenberg quantum chain in mixtures of ground and first excited states

Sayan Mondal, George Biswas, Ahana Ghoshal +2 more

Abstract We show that the nearest neighbour entanglement in a mixture of ground and first excited states—a subjacent state—of the J 1 − J 2 Heisenberg quantum spin chain can be used as an order parameter to detect the phase transition of the chain from a gapless spin fluid to a gapped dimer phase. We study the effectiveness of the order parameter for varying relative mixing probabilities between the ground and first excited states in the subjacent state for different system sizes, and extrapolate the results to the thermodynamic limit. We observe that the nearest neighbour concurrence can play a role of a good order parameter even if the system is in the ground state, but with a small finite probability of leaking into the first excited state. Moreover, we apply the order parameter of the subjacent state to investigate the response to separate introductions of anisotropy and of glassy disorder on the phase diagram of the model, and analyse the corresponding finite-size scale exponents and the emergent tricritical point in the former case. The anisotropic J 1 − J 2 chain has a richer phase diagram which is also clearly visible by using the same order parameter.

Quantum phases of dimerized and frustrated Heisenberg spin chains with s = 1/2, 1 and 3/2: an entanglement entropy and fidelity study

V. M. L. Durga Prasad Goli, Shaon Sahoo, S. Ramasesha +1 more

We study here different regions in phase diagrams of the spin-1/2, spin-1 and spin-3/2 one-dimensional antiferromagnetic Heisenberg systems with frustration (next-nearest-neighbor interaction J2) and dimerization (δ). In particular, we analyze the behaviors of the bipartite entanglement entropy and fidelity at the gapless to gapped phase transitions and across the lines separating different phases in the J2-δ plane. All the calculations in this work are based on numerical exact diagonalizations of finite systems.

Multisite Entanglement acts as a Better Indicator of Quantum Phase Transitions in Spin Models with Three-spin Interactions

Manabendra Nath Bera, R. Prabhu, Aditi Sen De +1 more

We employ a genuine multipartite entanglement measure, the generalized geometric measure, for investigating the quantum phase transition in an infinite quantum spin-1/2 chain with two-spin as well as three-spin interactions. We show that in contrast to bipartite entanglement of the ground state, the genuine multiparty one unerringly indicates the quantum phase transition in the system. The system lends itself to a complementary behavior between bipartite and genuine multipartite entanglements. We also investigate the trend of the multipartite entanglement in finite chains, in which we perform a finite-size scaling to confirm the signature of the quantum phase transition already in finite systems. The finite-size investigation renders the phenomenon to be observable in real systems.

Quantum phase transition and entanglement in XXZ Heisenberg spin chain

N. Hachem, El Mostafa Jalal, M. Salama +2 more

Abstract Using the quantum renormalization group approach, we have investigated the entanglement and critical behavior of an anisotropic XXZ Heisenberg spin chain. The resolution of the quantum renormalization equations yields stable and unstable fixed points, corresponding respectively to the phases and critical point of the system. It is shown that a quantum phase transition exists at a critical anisotropy parameter , separating the Néel phase from the spin-fluid phase. Then, the concurrence between two blocks of sites and the quantum coherence have been calculated and presented for various renormalization group iterations. In the thermodynamic limit, i.e. , for higher renormalization steps, the concurrence and coherence exhibit two different saturated values in the two regions separated by Δ c . The first derivative of concurrence diverges at the critical point as the size of the chain increases, showing nonanalytic behavior. Moreover, the scaling behavior has been examined near the critical point with some universal exponential scaling laws.

Shared purity and concurrence of a mixture of ground and low-lying excited states as indicators of quantum phase transitions

George Biswas, Anindya Biswas, Ujjwal Sen

Abstract We investigate the efficacy of shared purity, a measure of quantum correlation that is independent of the separability-entanglement paradigm, as a quantum phase transition indicator in comparison with concurrence, a bipartite entanglement measure. The order parameters are investigated for thermal states and pseudo-thermal states, of the systems considered. In the case of the one-dimensional J 1 − J 2 Heisenberg quantum spin model and the one-dimensional transverse-field quantum Ising model, shared purity turns out to be as effective as concurrence in indicating quantum phase transitions. In the two-dimensional J 1 − J 2 Heisenberg quantum spin model, shared purity indicates the two quantum phase transitions present in the model, while concurrence detects only one of them. Moreover, we find diverging finite-size scaling exponents for the order parameters near the transitions in odd- and even-sized systems governed by the one-dimensional J 1 − J 2 model, as had previously been reported for quantum spins on odd- and even-legged ladders. It is plausible that the divergence is related to a Möbius strip-like boundary condition required for odd-sized systems, while for even-sized systems, the usual periodic boundary condition is sufficient.
