Abstract

In this article, we explore the divergences and universal terms of the holographic entanglement entropy for singular regions in anisotropic and nonconformal theories that are holographically dual to geometries with a hyperscaling violation, parameterized by two parameters $z$ and $θ$. We study a curved corner in anisotropic space with arbitrary $θ$ and $z$. We choose the region to be shape invariant under the scaling of spacetime. For this case, we show that the contribution of the singularity to the entanglement entropy depends on $z$ and $θ$ values. We identify the structure of various divergences that may appear, especially those which give rise to a universal contribution in the form of logarithmic or double logarithmic terms. In the range $z>1$, for values $z=2k/(2k-1)$ with some integer $k$ and $θ=0$, Lifshitz geometry, we find a double logarithmic term. In the range $z<0$, for values $θ=1-2n|z-1|$ with some integer $n$ we find a logarithmic term.

Generalizing the entanglement entropy of singular regions in conformal field theories

Pablo Bueno, Horacio Casini, William Witczak‐Krempa

A bstract We study the structure of divergences and universal terms of the entanglement and Rényi entropies for singular regions. First, we show that for (3 + 1)-dimensional free conformal field theories (CFTs), entangling regions emanating from vertices give rise to a universal contribution $$ {S}_n^{\mathrm{univ}}=-\frac{1}{8\pi }{f}_b(n){\int}_{\gamma }{k}^2{\log}^2\left(R/\delta \right) $$ S n univ = − 1 8 π f b n ∫ γ k 2 log 2 R / δ , where γ is the curve formed by the intersection of the entangling surface with a unit sphere centered at the vertex, and k the trace of its extrinsic curvature. While for circular and elliptic cones this term reproduces the general-CFT result, it vanishes for polyhedral corners. For those, we argue that the universal contribution, which is logarithmic, is not controlled by a local integral, but rather it depends on details of the CFT in a complicated way. We also study the angle dependence for the entanglement entropy of wedge singularities in 3+1 dimensions. This is done for general CFTs in the smooth limit, and using free and holographic CFTs at generic angles. In the latter case, we show that the wedge contribution is not proportional to the entanglement entropy of a corner region in the (2 + 1)-dimensional holographic CFT. Finally, we show that the mutual information of two regions that touch at a point is not necessarily divergent, as long as the contact is through a sufficiently sharp corner. Similarly, we provide examples of singular entangling regions which do not modify the structure of divergences of the entanglement entropy compared with smooth surfaces.

Entanglement entropy for singular surfaces in hyperscaling violating theories

Mohsen Alishahiha, Amin Faraji Astaneh, Piermarco Fonda +1 more

We study the holographic entanglement entropy for singular surfaces in theories described holographically by hyperscaling violating backgrounds. We consider singular surfaces consisting of cones or creases in diverse dimensions. The structure of UV divergences of entanglement entropy exhibits new logarithmic terms whose coefficients, being cut-off independent, could be used to define new central charges in the nearly smooth limit. We also show that there is a relation between these central charges and the one appearing in the two-point function of the energy-momentum tensor. Finally we examine how this relation is affected by considering higher-curvature terms in the gravitational action.

On the logarithmic divergent part of entanglement entropy, smooth versus singular regions

Harald Dorn A

The entanglement entropy for smooth regions A has a logarithmic divergent contribution with a shape dependent coefficient and that for regions with conical singularities an additional log 2 term. Comparing the coefficient of this extra term, obtained by direct holographic calculation for an infinite cone, with the corresponding limiting case for the shape dependent coefficient for a regularised cone, a mismatch by a factor two has been observed in the literature. We discuss several aspects of this issue. In particular a regularisation of A , intrinsically delivered by the holographic picture, is proposed and applied to an example of a compact region with two conical singularities. Finally, the mismatch is removed in all studied regularisations of A , if equal scale ratios are chosen for the limiting procedure.

Relevant perturbation of entanglement entropy of singular surfaces

Mostafa Ghasemi, Shahrokh Parvizi

We study the entanglement entropy of theories that are derived from relevant perturbation of given CFTs for regions with a singular boundary by using the AdS/CFT correspondence. In the smooth case, it is well known that a relevant deformation of the boundary theory by the relevant operator with scaling dimension $Δ=\frac{d+2}{2}$ generates a logarithmic universal term to the entanglement entropy. As the smooth case, when the boundary CFT deformed by a relevant operator, we find that the entanglement entropy of singular surface also contains a new logarithmic term which is due to relevant perturbation of the conformal field theory, and depends on the scaling dimension of relevant operator. We also find for extended singular surfaces, $c_{n}\times R^{m}$, as well as logarithmic term, the new universal double logarithmic terms may appear depending on the scaling dimension of relevant operator and spacetime dimensions. These new terms are due to relevant perturbation of the boundary theory.

Universal corner contributions to entanglement negativity

Keun-young Kim A, Chao Niu, Da-Wei Pang

It has been realised that corners in entangling surfaces can induce new universal contributions to the entanglement entropy and Rényi entropy. In this paper we study universal corner contributions to entanglement negativity in three- and four-dimensional CFTs using both field theory and holographic techniques. We focus on the quantity χ defined by the ratio of the universal part of the entanglement negativity over that of the entanglement entropy, which may characterise the amount of distillable entanglement. We find that for most of the examples χ takes bigger values for singular entangling regions, which may suggest increase in distillable entanglement. However, there also exist counterexamples where distillable entanglement decreases for singular surfaces. We also explore the behaviour of χ as the coupling varies and observe that for singular entangling surfaces, the amount of distillable entanglement is mostly largest for free theories, while counterexample exists for free Dirac fermion in three dimensions. For holographic CFTs described by higher derivative gravity, χ may increase or decrease, depending on the sign of the relevant parameters. Our results may reveal a more profound connection between geometry and distillable entanglement.

Entanglement entropy of singular surfaces under relevant deformations in holography

Mostafa Ghasemi, Shahrokh Parvizi

In the vacuum state of a CFT, the entanglement entropy of singular surfaces contains a logarithmic universal term which is only due to the singularity of the entangling surface. We consider the relevant perturbation of a three dimensional CFT for singular entangling surface. We observe that in addition to the universal term due to the entangling surface, there is a new logarithmic term which corresponds to a relevant perturbation of the conformal field theory with a coefficient depending on the scaling dimension of the relevant operator. We also find a new power law divergence in the holographic entanglement entropy. In addition, we study the effect of a relevant perturbation in the Gauss-Bonnet gravity for a singular entangling surface. Again a logarithmic term shows up. This new term is proportional to both the dimension of the relevant operator and the Gauss-Bonnet coupling. We also introduce the renormalized entanglement entropy for a kink region which in the UV limit reduces to a universal positive finite term.
