Abstract

We study the O(4) Wilson-Fisher fixed point in 2+1 dimensions in fixed large-charge sectors identified by products of two spin-j representations (j_{L},j_{R}). Using effective field theory we derive a formula for the conformal dimensions D(j_{L},j_{R}) of the leading operator in terms of two constants, c_{3/2} and c_{1/2}, when the sum j_{L}+j_{R} is much larger than the difference |j_{L}-j_{R}|. We compute D(j_{L},j_{R}) when j_{L}=j_{R} with Monte Carlo calculations in a discrete formulation of the O(4) lattice field theory, and show excellent agreement with the predicted formula and estimate c_{3/2}=1.068(4) and c_{1/2}=0.083(3).

Conformal Dimensions via Large Charge Expansion

Debasish Banerjee, Shailesh Chandrasekharan A, Domenico Orlando

We construct an efficient Monte Carlo algorithm that overcomes the severe signal-to-noise ratio problems and helps us to accurately compute the conformal dimensions of large-Q fields at the Wilson-Fisher fixed point in the O(2) universality class. Using it, we verify a recent proposal that conformal dimensions of strongly coupled conformal field theories with a global U(1) charge can be obtained via a series expansion in the inverse charge 1/Q. We find that the conformal dimensions of the lowest operator with a fixed charge Q are almost entirely determined by the first few terms in the series.

Conformal data for the $O(2)$ Wilson-Fisher CFT in $(2+1)$-dimensional spacetime from exact diagonalization and matrix product states on the fuzzy sphere

Arjun Dey, Loïc Herviou, Christopher Mudry +2 more

We study at zero temperature a microscopic quantum spin-1 model on the fuzzy sphere that realizes the O(2) O ( 2 ) Wilson-Fisher conformal field theory (CFT) in (2+1) ( 2 + 1 ) -dimensional spacetime at a quantum critical point. Here, we use the fuzzy-sphere regularization as it preserves the full spatial SO(3) S O ( 3 ) rotational symmetry of the CFT, enabling the state-operator correspondence that maps energy eigenstates directly to CFT operators. Using exact diagonalization (ED) and matrix product state (MPS) techniques combined with conformal perturbation theory (CPT), we extract conformal data including scaling dimensions and operator product expansion (OPE) coefficients. We identify 48 primary operators and their descendants, organized by the conserved O(2) O ( 2 ) charge S^{z} S z and spatial angular momentum L L . Our numerical results for the scaling dimensions of the lowest primary operators show good agreement with conformal bootstrap predictions. We verify predictions from the large charge expansion, which provides systematic predictions for operators carrying large U(1) U ( 1 ) charge, connecting the Goldstone mode physics in the ordered phase to phonon primaries at the critical point.

Identifying Large Charge operators

Gil Badel, Alexander Monin, Riccardo Rattazzi A

Abstract The Large Charge sector of Conformal Field Theory (CFT) can generically be described through a semiclassical expansion around a superfluid background. In this work, focussing on U(1) invariant Wilson-Fisher fixed points, we study the spectrum of spinning large charge operators. For sufficiently low spin these correspond to the phonon excitations of the superfluid state. We discuss the organization of these states into conformal multiplets and the form of the corresponding composite operators in the free field theory limit. The latter entails a mapping, built order-by-order in the inverse charge n−1, between the Fock space of vacuum fluctuations and the Fock space of fluctuations around the superfluid state. We discuss the limitations of the semiclassical method, and find that the phonon description breaks down for spins of order n1/2 while the computation of observables is valid up to spins of order n. Finally, we apply the semiclassical method to compute some conformal 3-point and 4-point functions, and analyze the conformal block decomposition of the latter with our knowledge of the operator spectrum.

Entanglement entropy of large- N Wilson-Fisher conformal field theory

Seth Whitsitt, William Witczak‐Krempa, Subir Sachdev A

We compute the entanglement entropy of the Wilson-Fisher conformal field theory (CFT) in 2+1 dimensions with $\mathrm{O}(N)$ symmetry in the limit of large $N$ for general entanglement geometries. We show that the leading large-$N$ result can be obtained from the entanglement entropy of $N$ Gaussian scalar fields with their mass determined by the geometry. For a few geometries, the universal part of the entanglement entropy of the Wilson-Fisher CFT equals that of a CFT of $N$ massless scalar fields. However, in most cases, these CFTs have a distinct universal entanglement entropy even at $N=\ensuremath{\infty}$. Notably, for a semi-infinite cylindrical region it scales as ${N}^{0}$ in the Wilson-Fisher theory, in stark contrast to the $N$-linear result of the Gaussian fixed point.

Fermionic CFTs at large charge and large N

Nicola Andrea Dondi, Simeon Hellerman, Ioannis Kalogerakis +3 more

We study the large-charge sector of large-N fermionic CFTs in three dimensions. Depending on the model and the nature of the fixed charge, we find two types of descriptions: in terms of a superfluid or a Fermi sphere. We explicitly compute the conformal dimensions of the lowest operator of fixed charge and in the superfluid case verify the EFT predictions for the phonon spectrum.
