Abstract

Squeezing of quantum fluctuation plays an important role in fundamental quantum physics and has marked influence on ultrasensitive detection. We propose a scheme to generate and enhance the squeezing of mechanical mode by exposing the optomechanical system to a non-Markovian environment. It is shown that the effective parametric resonance term of mechanical mode can be induced due to interaction with the cavity and non-Markovian reservoir, thus resulting in quadrature squeezing of the mechanical resonator; jointing the two kinds of interactions can enhance the squeezing effect. Compared with the usual Markovian regime, we can obtain stronger squeezing, and, significantly, the squeezing can approach a low asymptotic stable value.

Controllable generation of mechanical quadrature squeezing via dark-mode engineering in cavity optomechanics

Huang Jian, Deng-Gao Lai, Jie‐Qiao Liao

Quantum squeezing is an important resource in modern quantum technologies, such as quantum precision measurement and continuous-variable quantum information processing. The generation of squeezed states of mechanical modes is a significant task in cavity optomechanics. Motivated by recent interest in multimode optomechanics, it becomes an interesting topic to create quadrature squeezing in multiple mechanical resonators. However, in the multiple-degenerate-mechanical-mode optomechanical systems, the dark-mode effect strongly suppresses the quantum effects in mechanical modes. Here we study the generation of mechanical squeezing in a two-mechanical-mode optomechanical system by breaking the dark-mode effect with the synthetic-gauge-field method. We find that, when the mechanical modes work at a finite temperature, the mechanical squeezing is weak or even disappears due to the dark-mode effect, while the strong mechanical squeezing can be generated once the dark-mode effect is broken. In particular, the thermal-phonon-occupation tolerance of the mechanical squeezing is approximately three orders of magnitude larger than that without breaking the dark-mode effect. We also generalize this method to break the dark modes and to create the mechanical squeezing in multiple-mechanical-mode optomechanical systems. Our results describe a general physical mechanism and pave the way towards the generation of noise-resistant quantum resources.

Generating of squeezed state and entanglement in cavity optomechanical system

Taha Yousif

We study theoretically a two-mode optomechanical system where two cavity modes are coupled to a single mechanical mode. It is shown that the whole system can yield good squeezing, which is comparable to that produced by dispersive coupling, the numerical results which we obtained showed periodic oscillations with a maximum peaks in one of the two quadrature component with a value less than 0.5. We also showed that entanglement can be achieved by calculating the variance in quadrature component of the field operators. Our results are useful in non- degenerate parametric oscillation.

Dynamical generation of stable optical-microwave squeezing in structured reservoirs

Chen Wang, Man Shen, Shi-fan Qi +1 more

Two-mode squeezed states as paradigmatic entangled resources have broad applications in quantum information processing. Here, we study the generation of stable optical-microwave squeezing in structured environments within a hybrid electro-optomechanical system, where a mechanical oscillator is simultaneously coupled to an optical cavity mode and a microwave mode of an LC resonator. Specifically, an effective Hamiltonian that captures the optical-microwave squeezing interaction is constructed by combining strongly modulated driving fields applied to both photonic modes with a mechanical parametric amplifier. Based on this effective model, the dynamical evolution of two-mode squeezing in structured environments is analyzed. It is remarkably shown that the non-Markovian noise can substantially enhance the squeezing level in comparison to the Markovian case, and that two-mode squeezing can persist even in the absence of external driving fields under non-Markovian conditions, thereby mitigating the detrimental effects of anti-squeezing. Furthermore, the persistence of the two-mode squeezed state is enhanced when the environmental spectral densities of the microwave and optical modes are identical. Our work provides a theoretical framework for generating and persisting two-mode squeezing in structured environments.

Two-mode light in optomechanical cavity with squeezed vacuum reservoir

Edris Salih, Misrak Getahun

We consider a two-mode light generated by nondegenerate three-level laser with parametric oscillator in optomechanical cavity coupled to two-mode squeezed vacuum reservoir. Effects of pump mode, optomechanical coupling strength and squeezed vacuum reservoir on squeezing and entanglement properties of the cavity modes have been analyzed using the expectation values of cavity mode variables at steady state. The results show that the two-mode light produced by the system under consideration exhibits quadrature squeezing and entanglement. The presence of parametric oscillator in the cavity and squeezed vacuum reservoir enhance the degree of squeezing, entanglement and mean photon number of the cavity mode lights. The optomechanical cavity has no effect on the mean photon number and entanglement of the cavity mode but increases the degree of quadrature squeezing.

Squeezing-enhanced measurement sensitivity in a cavity optomechanical system

Hugo Kerdoncuff, Ulrich B. Hoff, Glen I. Harris +2 more

We determine the theoretical limits to squeezing-enhanced measurement sensitivity of mechanical motion in a cavity optomechanical system. The motion of a mechanical resonator is transduced onto quadrature fluctuations of a cavity optical field and a measurement is performed on the optical field exiting the cavity. We compare measurement sensitivities obtained with coherent probing and quantum-enhanced probing of the mechanical motion, i.e. the coherent probe field carries vacuum states and quadrature squeezed vacuum states at sideband frequencies, respectively. We find that quantum-enhanced probing provides little to no improvement in motion sensing for resonators in the unresolved sideband regime but may significantly increase measurement sensitivities for resonators in the resolved sideband regime.
