Abstract

We propose a theoretical method to enhance the coherent dipole coupling between two atoms in an optical cavity via parametrically squeezing the cavity mode. In the present scheme, conditions for coherent coupling are derived in detail and diverse dynamics of the system can be obtained by regulating system parameters. In the presence of environmental noise, an auxiliary squeezed field is employed to suppress and even completely eliminate the additional noise induced by squeezing. In addition, we demonstrate that our scheme enables the effective suppression of atomic spontaneous emission. The results in our investigation could be used for diverse applications in quantum technologies.

Dynamics and enhancement of nonlinear coupling via squeezing a cavity mode

Abstract We propose a scheme to enhance nonlinear coupling between a two-mode optical cavity via parametric squeezing. Employing a two-mode squeezed vacuum state, we derive an effective Hamiltonian that reveals enhancement of nonlinear coupling. Numerical simulations demonstrate that the enhanced squeezing will cause the oscillation between the two-mode photon numbers of the system. The dissipation of the system is also considered, that the dissipation has a positive effect on the preparation of steady state via parametric squeezing. The result in our investigation could provide an effective simulation platform for the realization of quantum information process.

Squeezing‐Enhanced Atom–Cavity Interaction in Coupled Cavities with High Dissipation Rates

Yan Wang, Jin‐Lei Wu, Jie Song +3 more

Abstract The realization of the strong coupling regime is requisite for implementing quantum information tasks. Here, a method for enhancing the atom–field coupling in highly dissipative coupled cavities is proposed. By introducing parametric squeezing into the primary cavity, which is only virtually excited under specific parametric conditions, coupling enhancement between the atom and the auxiliary cavity is realized for appropriate squeezing parameters. This enables the system to be robust against large cavity decay and atomic spontaneous emission. The observation of vacuum Rabi oscillations show that the originally weakly coupled system can be enhanced into an effective strong coupling regime.

Exponentially Enhanced Light-Matter Interaction, Cooperativities, and Steady-State Entanglement Using Parametric Amplification

Wei Qin, Adam Miranowicz, Fuli Li +3 more

We propose an experimentally feasible method for enhancing the atom-field coupling as well as the ratio between this coupling and dissipation (i.e., cooperativity) in an optical cavity. It exploits optical parametric amplification to exponentially enhance the atom-cavity interaction and, hence, the cooperativity of the system, with the squeezing-induced noise being completely eliminated. Consequently, the atom-cavity system can be driven from the weak-coupling regime to the strong-coupling regime for modest squeezing parameters, and even can achieve an effective cooperativity much larger than 100. Based on this, we further demonstrate the generation of steady-state nearly maximal quantum entanglement. The resulting entanglement infidelity (which quantifies the deviation of the actual state from a maximally entangled state) is exponentially smaller than the lower bound on the infidelities obtained in other dissipative entanglement preparations without applying squeezing. In principle, we can make an arbitrarily small infidelity. Our generic method for enhancing atom-cavity interaction and cooperativities can be implemented in a wide range of physical systems, and it can provide diverse applications for quantum information processing.

Single-atom cavity-enhanced absorption with injected squeezed vacuum: photon statistics

Perry R. Rice, L. M. Pedrotti, J. Walden

We consider a single two-level atom in an optical cavity, in which the system is driven by a coherent driving field. In the bad-cavity limit, when the cavity loss rate is taken to be large compared to the atomic decay rate and atom-field coupling, the cavity field can be adiabatically eliminated from the equations of motion for the atomic operators. The main effect of the cavity in this limit is the enhancement of spontaneous emission into the cavity mode. For this model, the second-order intensity correlation function g(2)() has been shown to exhibit photon antibunching, sub-Poissonian photon number distributions, and other nonclassical effects.1 In this paper, analytic results are presented for g(2)() for both the transmitted and fluorescent light fields when broadband squeezed light is injected into the cavity. Effects of the squeezing on nonclassical behavior is examined.

Enhancing atom-field interaction in the reduced multiphoton Tavis-Cummings model

Yan Wang, Jin‐Lei Wu, Jie Song +3 more

We propose a scheme to enhance the light-matter coupling in a cavity QED system where two $\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Lambda}}$ atoms are weakly coupled to a single-mode cavity via multiphoton interaction. By introducing a second-order nonlinear (parametric) driving of the cavity, the original $N$-photon exchanges between the atoms, and the cavity can be reduced to either an effective single- or two-photon transition depending on the odevity of $N$, with the effective atom-field interaction strength being significantly enhanced. This results in an $N$-dependent effective coupling strength on top of the exponential enhancement induced only by the parametric driving. As an example, we demonstrate that our proposal can be exploited for the preparation of high-fidelity steady-state entanglement. The proposed scheme could provide a feasible alternative for diverse applications in quantum technologies.

Research of radiation characteristics in a parametrically driven cavity

Xue SHANG, Binfang Cao, Guo Miaodi +2 more

Cavity quantum electrodynamics (QED) serves as a fundamental platform for studying light-matter interactions at a single-particle level and has been extensively investigated in fundamental physics and quantum information. Recent development of parametrically squeezed techniques has demonstrated that they have the remarkable ability to exponentially enhance coherent atom-cavity coupling. However, the full extent to which these techniques can manipulate quantum optical phenomena requires further exploration. This work systematically investigates the influence of optical parametric amplification on single-photon excited atom-cavity systems within a parametrically driven cavity. In the proposed model, optical parametric amplification converts the driving photons into a squeezed cavity mode, which enhances the atom-cavity interaction into the strong coupling region. Through analytical derivation of atomic and cavity radiation spectra, we demonstrate that the optical parametric amplification induces splitting of atomic radiation spectra while exerting negligible effects on spectral intensity. Conversely, the cavity transmission spectrum exhibits both pronounced splitting and nonlinear intensity amplification. Notably, as driving field intensity approaches a critical intensity regime, the cavity radiation spectrum intensity is significantly enhanced. The underlying mechanism is parametric driving amplification, which converts the driving light into a squeezed cavity mode. When this squeezed mode is mapped back to the fundamental mode of the cavity through Bogoliubov squeezing transformation, the pump photons within the squeezed cavity mode are converted into the photons that contribute to the radiation spectrum of the cavity, thereby amplifying its intensity. This parametric enhancement method not only deepens the basic understanding of light-matter interactions, but also establishes a practical framework for improving the single-photon detection sensitivity in cavity-based quantum systems. These findings have broad prospects for quantum sensing and information processing applications.
