Abstract

Quantum phase transition occurs at a quantum critical value of a control parameter such as the magnetic field in the Ising model in a transverse magnetic field (ITF). Recently, it is shown that ramping across the quantum critical point generates non-analytic behaviors in the time evolution of a closed quantum system in the thermodynamic limit at zero temperature. The mentioned phenomenon is called the dynamical quantum phase transition (DQPT). Here, we consider the one-dimensional ITF model with added the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (DMI). Using the fermionization technique, the Hamiltonian is exactly diagonalized. Although the DMI induces chiral phase in the ground state phase diagram of the model, the study of the rate function of the return probability has proven that the DMI does not affect the DQPT. We conclude accordingly that the ramping across the quantum critical point is not a necessary and sufficient condition for DQPT.

Quantum coherence of XY model with Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction

Yi Tian-Cheng, Ding Yue-Ran, Jie Ren +2 more

In this paper, we study the quantum coherence of one-dimensional transverse XY model with Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction, which is given by the following Hamiltonian:HXY=∑i=1N((1+γ/2) σixσi+1x+(1-γ/2) σiyσi+1y-hσiz) ∑i=1ND(σixσi+1y-σiyσi+1x).(8)Here, 0 ≤ γ ≤ 1 is the anisotropic parameter, h is the magnitude of the transverse magnetic field, D is the strength of Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya (DM) interaction along the z direction. The limiting cases such as γ=0 and 1 reduce to the isotropic XX model and the Ising model, respectively. We use the Jordan-Winger transform to map explicitly spin operators into spinless fermion operators, and then adopt the discrete Fourier transform and the Bogoliubov transform to solve the Hamiltonian Eq.(8) analytically. When the DM interactions appear, the excitation spectrum becomes asymmetric in the momentum space and is not always positive, and thus a gapless chiral phase is induced. Based on the exact solutions, three phases are identified by varying the parameters:antiferromagnetic phase, paramagnetic phase, and gapless chiral phase. The antiferromagnetic phase is characterized by the dominant x-component nearest correlation function, while the paramagnetic phase can be characterized by the z component of spin correlation function. The two-site correlation functions Grxy and Gryx (r is the distance between two sites) are nonvanishing in the gapless chiral phase, and they act as good order parameters to identify this phase. The critical lines correspond to h=1, γ=2D, and h=√4D2 -γ2 + 1 for γ>0. When γ=0, there is no antiferromagnetic phase. We also find that the correlation functions undergo a rapid change across the quantum critical points, which can be pinpointed by the first-order derivative. In addition, Grxy decreases oscillatingly with the increase of distance r. The correlation function Grxy for γ=0 oscillates more dramatically than for γ=1. The upper boundary of the envelope is approximated as Grxy~r-1/2, and the lower boundary is approximately Grxy~r-3/2, so the long-range order is absent in the gapless chiral phase. Besides, we study various quantum coherence measures to quantify the quantum correlations of Eq.(8). One finds that the relative entropy CRE and the Jensen-Shannon entropy CJS are able to capture the quantum phase transitions, and quantum critical points are readily discriminated by their first derivative. We conclude that both quantum coherence measures can well signify the second-order quantum phase transitions. Moreover, we also point out a few differences in deriving the correlation functions and the associated density matrix in systems with broken reflection symmetry.

Characterizing quantum criticality in the transverse field Ising model with staggered Dzyaloshinskii–Moriya interaction

Dongchang Liu, Su Yao, Xia Jin +2 more

The quantum criticality and entanglement properties are investigated in the one-dimensional spin-1/2 transverse field Ising model with staggered Dzyaloshinsky-Moriya interaction by utilizing the infinite-time evolving block decimation method. In this model, the staggered Dzyaloshinsky-Moriya interaction does not lead any new phase, while it only appears a phase transition line between Néel phase and paramagnetic phase. The behaviors of measurements of information illustrate the quantum phase transition and the existence of factorized points. The factorization phenomena is observed in the transverse Néel phase detecting by the entanglement quantities, in which the double degenerate ground state in transverse Néel phase is preserved by the Dzyaloshinsky-Moriya interaction also evidencing from the fidelity map. From the perspective of magnetism, the existence of chiral order and transverse Néel order suggests the helical magnetic structure induced by Dzyaloshinsky-Moriya interaction. The critical exponents and central charge keep invariant and convinced that the phase transitions belong to the Ising universality class. In contrary to the systems confined within central charge c=1, although the competition between the Dzyaloshinsky-Moriya interaction and external field changes the phase transition and entanglement properties, the quantum criticality seems independent of Dzyaloshinsky-Moriya interaction.

Induced effects of the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction on the thermal entanglement in spin-1/2 Heisenberg chains

E. Mehran, S. Mahdavifar, Rouhollah Jafari

The nearest-neighbor spins in the one-dimensional spin-1/2 $XX$ model with the added Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya (DM) interaction are entangled at zero temperature. In the presence of a transverse magnetic field (TF) they remain entangled up to a quantum critical field, ${h}_{c}$. Using the fermionization technique, we have studied the mutual effect of the DM interaction and a TF on the thermal entanglement (TE) in this model. The critical temperature where the entanglement disappears is specified. It is found that the TE in the finite-temperature neighborhood of the quantum critical field shows a scaling behavior with the critical exponent equal to the critical gap exponent. We also argue that thermodynamical properties like the specific heat and the magnetocaloric effect (instead of the usual internal energy and the magnetization) can detect the mentioned quantum entanglement in solid systems. In addition, we suggest a tactic to find all critical temperatures, which is based on the derivative of the entanglement witness with respect to the temperature.

Quantum-coherence-assisted dynamical phase transition in the one-dimensional transverse-field Ising model

Bao-Ming Xu

Abstract Quantum coherence will undoubtedly play a fundamental role in understanding the dynamics of quantum many-body systems; therefore, to be able to reveal its genuine contribution is of great importance. In this paper, we focus our discussions on the one-dimensional transverse field quantum Ising model initialized in the coherent Gibbs state, and investigate the effects of quantum coherence on dynamical quantum phase transition (DQPT). After quenching the strength of the transverse field, the effects of quantum coherence are studied using Fisher zeros and the rate function of the Loschmidt echo. We find that quantum coherence not only recovers DQPT destroyed by thermal fluctuations, but also generates some entirely new DQPTs, which are independent of the equilibrium quantum critical point. We also find that the Fisher zero cutting the imaginary axis is not sufficient to generate DQPT because it also requires the Fisher zeros to be tightly bound close enough to the neighborhood of the imaginary axis. It can be manifested that DQPTs are rooted in quantum fluctuations. This work reveals new information on the fundamental connection between quantum critical phenomena and quantum coherence.

Phase boundaries in an alternating-field quantum XY model with Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction: Sustainable entanglement in dynamics

Saptarshi Roy, Titas Chanda, Tamoghna Das +3 more

We report all phases and corresponding critical lines of the quantum anisotropic transverse XY model with uniform and alternating transverse magnetic fields (ATXY) in the presence of the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya (DM) interaction by using appropriately chosen order parameters. We prove that when DM interaction is weaker than the anisotropy parameter, it has no effect at all on the zero-temperature states of the XY model with uniform transverse magnetic field (UXY), which is not the case for the ATXY model. However, when DM interaction is stronger than the anisotropy parameter, we show the appearance of a new gapless chiral phase---in the XY model with uniform as well as alternating field. We further observe that first derivatives of nearest neighbor two-site entanglement with respect to magnetic fields can detect all the critical lines present in the system. We also find that the factorization surface at zero temperature present in this model without DM interaction becomes a volume on the introduction of the latter. Moreover, DM interaction turns out to be good to generate bipartite entanglement sustainable at large times, leading to a proof of ergodic nature of bipartite entanglement in this system.

Quantum critical phase diagram of bond alternating Ising model with Dzyaloshinskii–Moriya interaction: Signature of ground state fidelity

Neda Amiri, A. Langari

Abstract We present the zero temperature phase diagram of the bond alternating Ising chain in the presence of Dzyaloshinskii–Moriya interaction. An abrupt change in ground state fidelity is a signature of quantum phase transition. We obtain the renormalization of fidelity in terms of quantum renormalization group without the need to know the ground state. We calculate the fidelity susceptibility and its scaling behavior close to quantum critical point (QCP) to find the critical exponent which governs the divergence of correlation length. The model consists of a long range antiferromagnetic order with nonzero staggered magnetization which is separated from a helical ordered phase at QCP. Our results state that the critical exponent is independent of the bond alternation parameter (λ) while the maximum attainable helical order depends on λ.
