On 2d CFTs that interpolate between minimal models

Abstract

We investigate exactly solvable two-dimensional conformal field theories that exist at generic values of the central charge, and that interpolate between A-series or D-series minimal models. When the central charge becomes rational, correlation functions of these CFTs may tend to correlation functions of minimal models, or diverge, or have finite limits which can be logarithmic. These results are based on analytic relations between four-point structure constants and residues of conformal blocks.

Crossing-symmetric twist field correlators and entanglement negativity in minimal CFTs

Filiberto Ares, Raoul Santachiara, Jacopo Viti

Abstract We study conformal twist field four-point functions on a ℤN orbifold. We examine in detail the case N = 3 and analyze theories obtained by replicated N-times a minimal model with central charge c < 1. A fastly convergent expansion of the twist field correlation function in terms of sphere conformal blocks with central charge Nc is obtained by exploiting covering map techniques. We discuss extensive applications of the formalism to the entanglement of two disjoint intervals in CFT, in particular we propose a conformal block expansion for the partially transposed reduced density matrix. Finally, we refine the bounds on the structure constants of unitary CFTs determined previously by the genus two modular bootstrap.

Bootstrapping 2D CFTs in the semiclassical limit

Chi-Ming Chang, Ying-Hsuan Lin

We study two-dimensional conformal field theories in the semiclassical limit. In this limit, the four-point function is dominated by intermediate primaries of particular weights along with their descendants, and the crossing equations simplify drastically. For a four-point function receiving sufficiently small contributions from the light primaries, the structure constants involving heavy primaries follow a universal formula. Applying our results to the four-point function of the $$ {\mathbb{Z}}_2 $$ twist field in the symmetric product orbifold, we produce the Hellerman bound and the logarithmically corrected Cardy formula that is valid for h ≥ c/12.

Conformal field theory on the plane

Sylvain Ribault

We review conformal field theory on the plane in the conformal bootstrap approach. We introduce the main ideas of the bootstrap approach to quantum field theory, and how they apply to two-dimensional theories with local conformal symmetry. We describe the mathematical structures that appear in such theories, from the Virasoro algebra and its representations, to BPZ equations and conformal blocks. Examples include Liouville theory, (generalized) minimal models, free bosonic theories, the $H_3^+$ model, and the $SU_2$ and $\widetilde{SL}_2(\mathbb{R})$ WZW models. We also discuss relations between some of these models, and limits of these models when the central charge and/or conformal dimensions tend to particular values.

The linear property of genus-g, n-point, b-boundary, c-crosscap correlation functions in two-dimensional conformal field theory

Xun Liu

A bstract We propose a method to challenge the calculation of genus- g , bulk n -point, b -boundary, c -crosscap correlation functions with x boundary operators $$ {\mathcal{F}}_{g,n,b,c}^x $$ F g , n , b , c x in two-dimensional conformal field theories (CFT 2 ). We show that $$ {\mathcal{F}}_{g,n,b,c}^x $$ F g , n , b , c x are infinite linear combinations of genus- g , bulk ( n + b + c )-point functions F g , ( n + b + c ) , and try to obtain the linear coefficients in this work. We show the existence of a single pole structure in the linear coefficients at degenerate limits. A practical method to obtain the infinite linear coefficients is the free field realizations of Ishibashi states. We review the results in Virasoro minimal models $$ \mathcal{M} $$ M ( p, p ′) and extend it to the N = 1 minimal models $$ \mathcal{SM} $$ SM ( p, p ′).

Modern Approach to 2D Conformal Field Theory

Yuya Kusuki

The primary aim of these lecture notes is to introduce the modern approach to two-dimensional conformal field theory (2D CFT). The study of analytical methods in two-dimensional conformal field theory has developed over several decades, starting with BPZ. The development of analytical methods, particularly in rational conformal field theory (RCFT), has been remarkable, with complete classifications achieved for certain model groups. One motivation for studying CFT comes from its ability to describe quantum critical systems. Given that realistic quantum critical systems are fundamentally RCFTs, it is somewhat natural that the analytical methods of RCFT have evolved significantly. CFTs other than RCFTs are called irrational conformal field theories (ICFTs). Compared to RCFTs, the study of ICFTs has not progressed as much. Leaving aside whether there is physical motivation or not, ICFTs inherently possess a difficulty that makes them challenging to approach. However, with the development of quantum gravity, the advancement of analytical methods for ICFTs has become essential. The reason lies in the AdS/CFT correspondence. AdS/CFT refers to the relationship between $d+1$ dimensional quantum gravity and $d$ dimensional CFT. Within this correspondence, the CFT appears as a non-perturbative formulation of quantum gravity. Except in special cases, this CFT belongs to ICFT. Against this backdrop, the methods for ICFTs have developed rapidly in recent years. Many of these ICFT methods are indispensable for modern quantum gravity research. Unfortunately, these cannot be learned from textbooks on 2D CFTs, such as Yellow book. These lecture notes aim to fill this gap. Specifically, we will cover techniques that have already been applied in many studies, such as HHLL block and monodromy method, and significant results that have become proper nouns, such as Hellerman bound and HKS bound.

Higher obstructions to conformal boundary conditions and lattice realizations

R. Liu, Weicheng Ye

Although it is long believed that vanishing of chiral central charges of a 2d conformal field theory (CFT) implies the existence of conformal boundary conditions, there are yet higher obstructions. In this paper, we focus on 2d rational CFTs, for which we identify a series of obstructions, known as higher central charges. We also discuss its implication for lattice realizations and the generalization with global symmetries.
