Estimation of entanglement negativity of a two-qubit quantum system with two measurements

Abstract

Numerous work had been done to quantify the entanglement of a two-qubit quantum state, but it can be seen that previous works were based on joint measurements on two copies or more than two copies of the quantum state under consideration. In this work, we show that a single copy and two measurements are enough to estimate the entanglement quantifier like entanglement negativity and concurrence. To achieve our goal, we establish a relationship between the entanglement negativity and the minimum eigenvalue of the structural physical approximation of the partial transpose of an arbitrary two-qubit state. The derived relation makes it possible to estimate entanglement negativity experimentally by Hong-Ou-Mandel interferometry with only two detectors. Also, we derive the upper bound of the concurrence of an arbitrary two-qubit state and have shown that the upper bound can be realized in experiment. We will further show that the concurrence of i) an arbitrary pure two-qubit state and ii) a particular class of mixed states, namely, rank-2 quasi-distillable mixed states, can be exactly estimated with two measurements.

Quantifying entanglement of a two-qubit system via measurable and invariant moments of its partially transposed density matrix

Karol Bartkiewicz, Jiří Beran, Karel Lemr +2 more

We describe a direct method to determine the negativity of an arbitrary two-qubit state in experiments. The method is derived by analyzing the relation between the purity, negativity, and a universal entanglement witness for two-qubit entanglement. We show how the negativity of a two-qubit state can be calculated from just three experimentally accessible moments of the partially transposed density matrix of a two-photon state. Moreover, we show that the negativity can be given as a function of only six invariants, which are linear combinations of nine invariants from the complete set of 21 fundamental and independent two-qubit invariants. We analyze the relation between these moments and the concurrence for some classes of two-qubit states (including the $X$ states, as well as pure states affected by the amplitude-damping and phase-damping channels). We also discuss the possibility of using the universal entanglement witness as an entanglement measure for various classes of two-qubit states. Moreover, we analyze how noise affects the estimation of entanglement via this witness.

Comparison of the relative entropy of entanglement and negativity

Adam Miranowicz, Satoshi Ishizaka, Bohdan Horst +1 more

It is well known that for two qubits the upper bounds of the relative entropy of entanglement (REE) for a given concurrence as well as the negativity for a given concurrence are reached by pure states. We show that, by contrast, there are two-qubit mixed states for which the REE for some range of a fixed negativity is higher than that for pure states. Moreover, we demonstrate that a mixture of a pure entangled state and pure separable state orthogonal to it is likely to give the maximal REE. By noting that the negativity is a measure of entanglement cost under operations preserving positivity of partial transpose, our results provide an explicit example of operations such that, even though the entanglement cost for an exact preparation is the same, the entanglement of distillation of a mixed state can exceed that of pure states. This means that the entanglement manipulation via a pure state can result in a larger entanglement loss than that via a mixed state.

A comparison of the entanglement measures negativity and concurrence

Frank Verstraete, Koenraad M. R. Audenaert, Jeroen Dehaene +1 more

In this paper we investigate two different entanglement measures in the case of mixed states of two qubits. We prove that the negativity of a state can never exceed its concurrence and is always larger than √[(1 − C ) 2 + C 2 ] − (1 − C ), where C is the concurrence of the state. Furthermore, we derive an explicit expression for the states for which the upper or lower bound is satisfied. Finally we show that similar results hold if the relative entropy of entanglement and the entanglement of formation are compared.

A COMPARATIVE STUDY OF NEGATIVITY AND CONCURRENCE BASED ON SPIN COHERENT STATES

K. Berrada, M. El Baz, Hichem Eleuch +1 more

In this paper, we investigate two different entanglement measures, the negativity and concurrence, in the case of pure and mixed states of two-qubit system basing on the spin coherent states. For two-qubit pure states, the negativity is the same as the concurrence. For mixed states, using a simplified expression of concurrence in Wootters' measure of entanglement, we write the bounds of Verstraete et al.1as a function of some new parameters and we compare the both measures for a class of mixed states.

Experimental Measurement of Lower and Upper Bounds of Concurrence for Mixed Quantum States

Xiao-Ling Niu, Yan-Xiao Gong, Jian Li +5 more

We experimentally measure the lower and upper bounds of concurrence for a set of two-qubit mixed quantum states using photonic systems. The measured concurrence bounds are in agreement with the results evaluated from the density matrices reconstructed through quantum state tomography. In our experiment, we propose and demonstrate a simple method to provide two faithful copies of a two-photon mixed state required for parity measurements: Two photon pairs generated by two neighboring pump laser pulses through optical parametric down conversion processes represent two identical copies. This method can be conveniently generalized for entanglement estimation of multi-photon mixed states.

Fidelity of mixed states of two qubits

Frank Verstraete, Henri Verschelde

We consider a single copy of a mixed state of two qubits and show how its fidelity or maximal singlet fraction is related to the entanglement measures concurrence and negativity. We characterize the extreme points of a convex set of states with constant fidelity, and use this to prove tight lower and upper bounds on the fidelity for a given amount of entanglement.
