The propagator of the finite XXZ spin-$\tfrac{1}{2}$ chain

Abstract

We derive contour integral formulas for the real space propagator of the spin- \tfrac12 1 2 XXZ chain. The exact results are valid in any finite volume with periodic boundary conditions, and for any value of the anisotropy parameter. The integrals are on fixed contours, that are independent of the Bethe Ansatz solution of the model and the string hypothesis. The propagator is obtained by two different methods. First we compute it through the spectral sum of a deformed model, and as a by-product we also compute the propagator of the XXZ chain perturbed by a Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction term. As a second way we also compute the propagator through a lattice path integral, which is evaluated exactly utilizing the so-called F F -basis in the mirror (or quantum) channel. The final expressions are similar to the Yudson representation of the infinite volume propagator, with the volume entering as a parameter. As an application of the propagator we compute the Loschmidt amplitude for the quantum quench from a domain wall state.

Quench Dynamics of the Anisotropic Heisenberg Model

Wenshuo Liu, Natan Andrei

We develop an analytical approach for the study of the quench dynamics of the anisotropic Heisenberg model (XXZ model) on the infinite line. We present the exact time-dependent wave functions after a quench in an integral form for any initial state and for any anisotropy Δ by means of a generalized Yudson contour representation. We calculate the evolution of several observables from two particular initial states: starting from a local Néel state we calculate the time evolution of the antiferromagnetic order parameter-staggered magnetization; starting from a state with consecutive flipped spins (1) we calculate the evolution of the local magnetization and express it in terms of the propagation of magnons and bound state excitations, and (2) we predict the evolution of the induced spin currents. These predictions can be confronted with experiments in ultracold gases in optical lattices. We also show how the "string" solutions of Bethe ansatz equations emerge naturally from the contour approach.

Excited States in the Twisted XXZ Spin Chain

Tarek Nassar, Olav Tirkkonen

We compute the finite size spectrum for the spin 1/2 XXZ chain with twisted boundary conditions, for anisotropy in the regime 0 < γ < π/2, and arbitrary twist θ. The string hypothesis is employed for treating complex excitations. The Bethe Ansatz equtions are solved within a coupled non-linear integral equation approach, with one equation for each type of string. The root-of-unity quantum group invariant periodic chain reduces to the XXZ1/2 chain with a set of twist boundary conditions (π/γ ∈ ZZ, θ an integer multiple of γ). For this model, the restricted Hilbert space corresponds to an unitary conformal field theory, and we recover all primary states in the Kač table in terms of states with specific twist and strings.

The open XXZ chain at Δ = −1/2 and the boundary quantum Knizhnik–Zamolodchikov equations

Christian Hagendorf, Jean Liénardy

Abstract The open XXZ spin chain with the anisotropy parameter Δ = − 1 2 and diagonal boundary magnetic fields that depend on a parameter x is studied. For real x > 0, the exact finite-size ground-state eigenvalue of the spin-chain Hamiltonian is explicitly computed. In a suitable normalisation, the ground-state components are characterised as polynomials in x with integer coefficients. Linear sum rules and special components of this eigenvector are explicitly computed in terms of determinant formulas. These results follow from the construction of a contour-integral solution to the boundary quantum Knizhnik–Zamolodchikov equations associated with the R -matrix and diagonal K -matrices of the six-vertex model. A relation between this solution and a weighted enumeration of totally-symmetric alternating sign matrices is conjectured.

On the semi-classical limit of scalar products of the XXZ spin chain

Yunfeng Jiang, Joren Brunekreef

We study the scalar products between Bethe states in the XXZ spin chain with anisotropy |Δ| > 1 in the semi-classical limit where the length of the spin chain and the number of magnons tend to infinity with their ratio kept finite and fixed. Our method is a natural yet non-trivial generalization of similar methods developed for the XXX spin chain. The final result can be written in a compact form as a contour integral in terms of Faddeev’s quantum dilogarithm function, which in the isotropic limit reduces to the classical dilogarithm function.

Bethe Ansatz and boundary energy of the open spin-1/2 XXZ chain

Rajan Murgan

We review recent results on the Bethe Ansatz solutions for the eigenvalues of the transfer matrix of an integrable open XXZ quantum spin chain using functional relations which the transfer matrix obeys at roots of unity. First, we consider a case where at most two of the boundary parameters {{$\\alpha_-$,$\\alpha_+$,$\\beta_-$,$\\beta_+$}} are nonzero. A generalization of the Baxter $T-Q$ equation that involves more than one independent $Q$ is described. We use this solution to compute the boundary energy of the chain in the thermodynamic limit. We conclude the paper with a review of some results for the general integrable boundary terms, where all six boundary parameters are arbitrary.

Exact Bethe quantum numbers of the massive XXZ chain in the two down-spin sector

Takashi Imoto, Tetsuo Deguchi

Abstract Every solution of the Bethe ansatz equations (BAEs) is characterized by a set of quantum numbers called the Bethe quantum numbers, which are fundamental for evaluating each Bethe root numerically. We rigorously derive the Bethe quantum numbers for the real solutions of the spin-1/2 massive XXZ spin chain in the two down-spin sector, assuming the existence of solutions to some form of BAE. In the sector the quantum numbers J 1 and J 2 were derived for complex solutions, but not for real solutions. We show the exact results in the sector as follows. (i) When two Bethe quantum numbers are different, i.e. for J 1 ≠ J 2 , we introduce a graphical method, which we call a contour method, for deriving the solution of BAE to a given set of Bethe quantum numbers. By the method, we can readily show the existence and the uniqueness of the solution. (ii) When two Bethe quantum numbers are equal, i.e. for J 1 = J 2 , we derive the criteria for the collapse of two-strings and the emergence of an extra two-string by an analytic method. (iii) We obtain the number of real solutions, which depends on the site number N and the XXZ anisotropy parameter ζ. (iv) We derive all infinite-valued solutions of BAE for the XXX spin chain in the two down-spin sector through the XXX limit. (v) We explicitly show the completeness of the Bethe ansatz in terms of the Bethe quantum numbers.
