We investigate conditions on a finite set of multi-partite product vectors for which separable states with corresponding product states have unique decompositions, and show that this is true in most cases if the number of product vectors is sufficiently small. In the three-qubit case, generic five-dimensional spaces give rise to faces of the convex set consisting of all separable states, which are affinely isomorphic to the five-dimensional simplex with six vertices. We construct, as a byproduct, three-qubit entangled positive partial transpose edge states of rank 4 with explicit formulas. This covers those entanglements which cannot be constructed from an unextendible product basis.
In [Science 340:1205, (2013)], via entanglement polytopes Michael Walter et al. obtained a finite yet systematic classification of multi-particle entanglement. It is well known that under SLOCC, pure states of three (four) qubits are partitioned into six (nine) families. Ac\'{\i}n et al. proposed the generalized Schmidt decomposition for three qubits and partitioned pure states of three qubits into five types. In this paper,we present a LU invariant and an entanglement measures for the GHZ SLOCC class of three qubits, and partition states of the GHZ SLOCC class of three qubits into ten families and each family into two subfamilies under LU. We give a necessary and sufficient condition for the uniqueness of the generalized Schmidt decomposition for the GHZ SLOCC class.
We prove that every bipartite state
ρ of a qubit coupled to an
n-level system whose operator Schmidt rank equals three can be written as a mixture of
rank(ρ) pure product states, and as a mixture of at most
n+1 mixed product states in general. The second result is tight in the sense that there exist states that cannot be decomposed with a smaller number of terms. Our proof gives constructive methods to obtain the decompositions. It involves eigendecompositions of suitable unitary dilations of an operator explicitly determined by the state. Our framework recovers previously known results for the length of decompositions into pure product states and is also able to deal with decompositions into mixed states. For pure product states, our decomposition is different from existing ones.
