Abstract

We study an optomechanical system for the purpose of generating a nonclassical mechanical state when a mechanical oscillator is quadratically coupled to a single-mode cavity field driven by a squeezed optical field. The system corresponds to a regime where the optical dissipation dominates both the mechanical damping and the optomechanical coupling. We identify that multiphonon processes emerge in the optomechanical system and show that a mechanical oscillator prepared in the ground state will evolve into an amplitude-squared squeezed vacuum state. The Wigner distribution of the steady state of the mechanical oscillator is non-Gaussian exhibiting quantum interference and fourfold symmetry. This nonclassical mechanical state, generated via reservoir engineering, can be used for quantum correlation measurements of the position and momentum of the mechanics below the standard quantum limit.

Nonclassical non-Gaussian state of a mechanical resonator via selectively incoherent damping in a three-mode optomechanical system

Kang-jing Huang, Yan Yan, Jia‐pei Zhu +2 more

In this paper we propose a scheme for the generation of a nonclassical non-Gaussian motional state of a mechanical resonator (MR) in the three-mode optomechanical system in which two linearly coupled single-mode cavities interact dispersively with the mechanical oscillator simultaneously. With one cavity driven by a weak laser field and by properly tuning the driving frequency, a desirable phononic Liouvillian superoperator can be obtained by engineering the selective interaction Hamiltonian confined to Fock subspaces. It is shown that the MR can be driven dissipatively into a steady non-Gaussian nonclassical state, which possesses sub-Poisson statistics, although its Wigner function is positive. The present scheme can be useful for obtaining single phonons.

Macroscopic superposition states of a mechanical oscillator in an optomechanical system with quadratic coupling

Hong Xie, Xiao Shang, Chang-Geng Liao +2 more

We present a proposal to prepare the macroscopic superposition states of a mechanical oscillator in an optomechanical system with quadratic coupling. By coherently driving the optomechanical cavity with an external field, a Kerr-type interaction among phonons is induced. The macroscopic mechanical superposition can be generated by exploiting the Kerr nonlinearity in the mechanical oscillator, just as the generation of a nonclassical state of light in a Kerr medium. One merit of our proposal is that the Kerr nonlinearity can be strongly enhanced by adjusting the amplitude of the driving field. The influence of the system damping on the realization of mechanical non-Gaussian state is discussed by the negativity of the Wigner function. The results show that the macroscopic superposition states are robust against the mechanical thermal noise.

Generation of squeezed states and single-phonon states via homodyne detection and photon subtraction on the filtered output of an optomechanical cavity

Guifeng Huang, Wenwu Deng, Huatang Tan +1 more

In this paper, we consider the generation of mechanical squeezed states and single-phonon Fock states, respectively, by homodyne detection and photon subtraction in a dissipative or dispersive optomechanical system under the situation that the cavity linewidth ${\ensuremath{\kappa}}_{c}$ is much larger than the mechanical frequency ${\ensuremath{\omega}}_{m}$. We at first show that strong mechanical squeezing beyond the 3-dB limit can be achieved by homodyning the filtered cavity output field in a purely dispersive or purely dissipative optomechanical system for ${\ensuremath{\kappa}}_{c}\ensuremath{\gg}{\ensuremath{\omega}}_{m}$, while the combination of the two kinds of coupling can also effectively enhance the mechanical squeezing. We next show that in these optomechanical systems, mechanical single-phonon states with high fidelity can be generated via photon subtraction on the filtered cavity output field in the regimes of weak optomechanical entanglement and ${\ensuremath{\kappa}}_{c}\ensuremath{\gg}{\ensuremath{\omega}}_{m}$. It is found that the single-phonon Fock state via purely dissipative optomechanical coupling is attainable in the blue-detuned regime, whereas it is present in the red-detuned regime by purely dispersive optomechanical coupling. In addition, the effects of thermal fluctuations on the mechanical squeezing and the negativity of the Wigner function of the mechanical single-phonon states are also studied. It is shown that the Gaussian squeezing is much more robust against decohering thermal fluctuations than the non-Gaussian nonclassicality.

Parametric Control of Two-Mode Squeezed Light via Engineered Reservoirs and Tunable Optomechanical Interfaces

Tarekegn Tarekegn-Ossie-Hundebo

Quantum optomechanical systems enable versatile control of non-classical light. We study two-mode squeezed-light generation in a driven optomechanical cavity with parametrically amplified optical modes coupled to mechanical resonator. Coherent driving reveals a rich control landscape where parametric nonlinearity, optomechanical coupling, and reservoir interactions jointly tailor quantum correlations-including two-mode squeezing, entanglement, steering, and discord. Remarkably, mechanical oscillators not only mediate optical entanglement but also act as a squeezing resource, enabling enhancement or suppression of quantum correlations via parameter tuning. We derive steady-state second-order moments and closed-form covariance matrix expressions, quantifying entanglement via logarithmic negativity, steering via Reid criterion, and discord via von Neumann entropy, providing a comprehensive framework for optimized generation of quantum correlations in hybrid quantum systems.

Multimode Gaussian steady-state engineering in optomechanical systems with a squeezed reservoir

Nahid Yazdi, Stefano Zippilli, David Vitali

We investigate a theoretical protocol for the dissipative stabilization of mechanical quantum states in a multimode optomechanical system composed of multiple optical and mechanical modes. The scheme employs a single squeezed reservoir that drives one of the optical modes, while the remaining optical modes mediate an effective phonon-phonon interaction Hamiltonian. The interplay between these coherent interactions and the dissipation provided by the squeezed bath enables the steady-state preparation of targeted quantum states of the mechanical modes. In the absence of significant uncontrolled noise sources, the resulting dynamics closely approximate the model introduced in [Zippilli , ]. We analyze the performance of this protocol in generating mechanical cluster states defined on rectangular graphs.

Squeezed Optomechanics with Phase-Matched Amplification and Dissipation

Xin‐You Lü, Ying Wu, J. R. Johansson +3 more

We investigate the nonlinear interaction between a squeezed cavity mode and a mechanical mode in an optomechanical system (OMS) that allows us to selectively obtain either a radiation-pressure coupling or a parametric-amplification process. The squeezing of the cavity mode can enhance the interaction strength into the single-photon strong-coupling regime, even when the OMS is originally in the weak-coupling regime. Moreover, the noise of the squeezed mode can be suppressed completely by introducing a broadband-squeezed vacuum environment that is phase matched with the parametric amplification that squeezes the cavity mode. This proposal offers an alternative approach to control the OMS using a squeezed cavity mode, which should allow single-photon quantum processes to be implemented with currently available optomechanical technology. Potential applications range from engineering single-photon sources to nonclassical phonon states.
