Abstract

We investigate quantum phase transitions and quantum coherence in a quantum compass chain under an alternating transverse magnetic field. The model can be analytically solved by the Jordan-Wigner transformation and this solution shows that it is equivalent to a two-component one-dimensional (1D) Fermi gas on a lattice. We explore mutual effects of the staggered magnetic interaction and multisite interactions on the energy spectra and analyze the ground-state phase diagram. We use quantum coherence measures to identify the quantum phase transitions. Our results show that ${l}_{1}$ norm of coherence fails to detect faithfully the quantum critical points separating a gapped phase from a gapless phase, which can be pinpointed exactly by relative entropy of coherence. Jensen-Shannon divergence is somewhat obscure at exception points. We also propose an experimental realization of such a 1D system using superconducting quantum circuits.

Quantum phase transition of the one-dimensional compass model in a transverse magnetic field

Kewei Sun, Qing‐Hu Chen

The quantum phase transition (QPT) of the one-dimensional (1D) quantum compass model in a transverse magnetic field is studied in this paper. An exact solution is obtained by using an extended Jordan and Wigner transformation to the pseudo-spin operators. The fidelity susceptibility, the concurrence, the block-block entanglement entropy, and the pseudo-spin correlation functions are calculated with antiperiodic boundary conditions. The QPT driven by the transverse field only emerges at zero field and is of the second-order. Several critical exponents obtained by finite size scaling analysis are the same as those in the 1D transverse field Ising model, suggesting the same universality class. A logarithmic divergence of the entanglement entropy of a block at the quantum critical point is also observed. From the calculated coefficient connected to the central charge of the conformal field theory, it is suggested that the block entanglement depends crucially on the detailed topological structure of a system.

Quantum phase transitions of a generalized compass chain with staggered Dzyaloshinskii–Moriya interaction

Qing-Qiu Wu, Weihai Ni, Wen‐Long You

We consider a class of one-dimensional compass models with staggered Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya exchange interactions in an external transverse magnetic field. Based on the exact solution derived from Jordan-Wigner approach, we study the excitation gap, energy spectra, spin correlations and critical properties at phase transitions. We explore mutual effects of the staggered Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction and the magnetic field on the energy spectra and the ground-state phase diagram. Thermodynamic quantities including the entropy and the specific heat are discussed, and their universal scalings at low temperature are demonstrated.

Quantum phase transition in the one-dimensional extended quantum compass model in a transverse field

Rouhollah Jafari

Quantum phase transitions in the one-dimensional extended quantum compass model in a transverse field are studied by using the Jordan-Wigner transformation. This model is always gapful, except at the critical surfaces where the energy gap disappears. We obtain the analytic expressions of all critical fields which drive quantum phase transitions. This model shows a rich phase diagram which includes spin-flop, strip antiferromagnetic, and saturated ferromagnetic phases in addition to the phase with antiparallel ordering of the $y$ spin component on odd bonds. We also study also the universality and scaling properties of the transverse susceptibility and nearest-neighbor correlation function derivatives in different regions to confirm the results obtained using the energy gap analysis.

Quantum phase transitions in a generalized compass chain with three-site interactions

Wen‐Long You, Yu-Cheng Qiu, Andrzej M. Oleś

We consider a class of one-dimensional compass models with an XYZ-YZX type of three-site exchange interaction in an external magnetic field. We present the exact solution derived by means of Jordan-Wigner transformation, and study the excitation gap, spin correlations, and establish the phase diagram. Besides the canted antiferromagnetic and polarized phases, the three-site interactions induce two distinct chiral phases, corresponding to gapless spinless-fermion systems having two or four Fermi points. We find that the $z$ component of the scalar chirality operator can act as an order parameter for these chiral phases. We also find that the thermodynamic quantities including the Wilson ratio can characterize the liquid phases. Finally, a nontrivial magnetoelectric effect is explored, and we show that the polarization can be manipulated by the magnetic field in the absence of electric field.

Qing‐Hu Chen

Using Jordan-Wigner transformation,we investigate the quantum phase transition of a one-dimensional Fibonacci compass chain.According to the numerical calculation, the critical point of system, the energy gap and the spin correlation functions are determined exactly.Meanwhile, the kind of the phase transition is identified as the second order.
