Abstract

We study the criticality of a long-range quantum ferromagnetic Ising chain with algebraically decaying interactions $1/{r}^{\ensuremath{\alpha}}$ via the fidelity susceptibility based on the exact diagonalization and the density-matrix renormalization-group techniques. We find that critical exponents change monotonically from the mean-field universality class to the short-range Ising universality class for intermediate $\ensuremath{\alpha}$, which are consistent with recent results obtained from renormalization-group techniques. In addition, we determine the critical values for $1.8\ensuremath{\le}\ensuremath{\alpha}\ensuremath{\le}3$ from the finite-size scaling of the fidelity susceptibility. Our work provides very nice numerical data from the fidelity susceptibility for the quantum long-range ferromagnetic Ising chain.

Fidelity susceptibility study of quantum long-range antiferromagnetic Ising chain

Gaoyong Sun

We study the fidelity susceptibility of a quantum antiferromagnetic Ising chain with a long-range power-law interaction $1/{r}^{\ensuremath{\alpha}}$ using the large-scale density matrix renormalization group method. We find that the critical adiabatic dimension $\ensuremath{\mu}=2$ and the critical exponent of the correlation length $\ensuremath{\nu}=1$ for arbitrary $\ensuremath{\alpha}>0$, indicating all quantum phase transitions are second-order Ising transitions. In addition, we numerically determine the complete phase diagram for $0<\ensuremath{\alpha}\ensuremath{\le}3$ from the data collapse of the fidelity susceptibility and show that the critical point ${h}_{c}$ changes monotonously with respect to $\ensuremath{\alpha}$. This work will shed light on the nature of phase transitions in the quantum long-range antiferromagnetic Ising chain from a quantum information perspective.

Quantum criticality of a Z3 -symmetric spin chain with long-range interactions

Xue-Jia Yu, Chengxiang Ding, Limei Xu

Based on large-scale density matrix renormalization group techniques, we investigate the critical behaviors of quantum three-state Potts chains with long-range interactions. Using fidelity susceptibility as an indicator, we obtain a complete phase diagram of the system. The results show that as the long-range interaction power α increases, the critical points f_{c}^{*} shift towards lower values. In addition, the critical threshold α_{c}(≈1.43) of the long-range interaction power is obtained for the first time by a nonperturbative numerical method. This indicates that the critical behavior of the system can be naturally divided into two distinct universality classes, namely the long-range (α<α_{c}) and short-range (α>α_{c}) universality classes, qualitatively consistent with the classical ϕ^{3} effective field theory. This work provides a useful reference for further research on phase transitions in quantum spin chains with long-range interaction.

Upper and lower critical decay exponents of Ising ferromagnets with long-range interaction

俊樹 堀田, Hidemaro Suwa, Synge Todo

We investigate the universality class of the finite-temperature phase transition of the two-dimensional Ising model with the algebraically decaying ferromagnetic long-range interaction, J_{ij}=|r[over ⃗]_{i}-r[over ⃗]_{j}|^{-(d+σ)}, where d (=2) is the dimension of the system and σ is the decay exponent, by means of the order-N cluster-algorithm Monte Carlo method. In particular, we focus on the upper and lower critical decay exponents, the boundaries between the mean-field-universality, intermediate, and short-range-universality regimes. At the critical decay exponents, it is found that the standard Binder ratio of magnetization at the critical temperature exhibits extremely slow convergence as a function of the system size. We propose more effective physical quantities, namely the combined Binder ratio and the self-combined Binder ratio, both of which cancel the leading finite-size corrections of the conventional Binder ratio. Utilizing these techniques, we clearly demonstrate that in two dimensions, the lower and upper critical decay exponents are σ=1 and 7/4, respectively, contrary to the recent Monte Carlo and renormalization-group studies [M. Picco, arXiv:1207.1018; T. Blanchard et al., Europhys. Lett. 101, 56003 (2013)EULEEJ0295-507510.1209/0295-5075/101/56003].

Quantum-critical properties of the long-range transverse-field Ising model from quantum Monte Carlo simulations

Jan Alexander Koziol, Anja Langheld, Sebastian C. Kapfer +1 more

The quantum-critical properties of the transverse-field Ising model with algebraically decaying interactions are investigated by means of stochastic series expansion quantum Monte Carlo, on both the one-dimensional linear chain and the two-dimensional square lattice. We extract the critical exponents $\ensuremath{\nu}$ and $\ensuremath{\beta}$ as a function of the decay exponent of the long-range interactions. For ferromagnetic Ising interactions, we resolve the limiting regimes known from field theory, ranging from the nearest-neighbor Ising to the long-range Gaussian universality classes, as well as the intermediate regime with continuously varying critical exponents. In the long-range Gaussian regime, we treat the effect of dangerous irrelevant variables on finite-size scaling forms. For antiferromagnetic and therefore competing Ising interactions, the stochastic series expansion algorithm displays growing autocorrelation times leading to a reduced performance. Nevertheless, our results are consistent with the nearest-neighbor Ising universality for all investigated interaction ranges both on the linear chain and the square lattice.

Finite-temperature critical behavior of long-range quantum Ising models

Eduardo González Lazo, Markus Heyl, Marcello Dalmonte +1 more

We study the phase diagram and critical properties of quantum Ising chains with long-range ferromagnetic interactions decaying in a power-law fashion with exponent α \\alpha , in regimes of direct interest for current trapped ion experiments. Using large-scale path integral Monte Carlo simulations, we investigate both the ground-state and the nonzero-temperature regimes. We identify the phase boundary of the ferromagnetic phase and obtain accurate estimates for the ferromagnetic-paramagnetic transition temperatures. We further determine the critical exponents of the respective transitions. Our results are in agreement with existing predictions for interaction exponents α > 1 \\alpha > 1 up to small deviations in some critical exponents. We also address the elusive regime α < 1 \\alpha < 1 , where we find that the universality class of both the ground-state and nonzero-temperature transition is consistent with the mean-field limit at α = 0 \\alpha = 0 . Our work not only contributes to the understanding of the equilibrium properties of long-range interacting quantum Ising models, but can also be important for addressing fundamental dynamical aspects, such as issues concerning the open question of thermalization in such models.

Scaling properties of fidelity in the spin-1 anisotropic model

Yu-Chin Tzeng, Min-Fong Yang

By means of the density matrix renormalization group technique, the scaling relation of the fidelity susceptibility proposed recently is verified for the spin-one $XXZ$ spin chain with an on-site anisotropic term. Moreover, from the results of both the fidelity susceptibility and the entanglement entropy, the critical points and some of the corresponding critical exponents are determined through a proper finite-size scaling analysis, and these values agree with the findings in the literature. Thus our work provides a numerical support of the use of the fidelity in detecting quantum phase transitions.
