Generalized Weyl–Heisenberg Algebra, Qudit Systems and Entanglement Measure of Symmetric States via Spin Coherent States

Abstract

A relation is established in the present paper between Dicke states in a d-dimensional space and vectors in the representation space of a generalized Weyl–Heisenberg algebra of finite dimension d. This provides a natural way to deal with the separable and entangled states of a system of N = d − 1 symmetric qubit states. Using the decomposition property of Dicke states, it is shown that the separable states coincide with the Perelomov coherent states associated with the generalized Weyl–Heisenberg algebra considered in this paper. In the so-called Majorana scheme, the qudit (d-level) states are represented by N points on the Bloch sphere; roughly speaking, it can be said that a qudit (in a d-dimensional space) is describable by a N-qubit vector (in a N-dimensional space). In such a scheme, the permanent of the matrix describing the overlap between the N qubits makes it possible to measure the entanglement between the N qubits forming the qudit. This is confirmed by a Fubini–Study metric analysis. A new parameter, proportional to the permanent and called perma-concurrence, is introduced for characterizing the entanglement of a symmetric qudit arising from N qubits. For d = 3 ( ⇔ N = 2 ), this parameter constitutes an alternative to the concurrence for two qubits. Other examples are given for d = 4 and 5. A connection between Majorana stars and zeros of a Bargmmann function for qudits closes this article.

Generalized Weyl-Heisenberg Algebra, Qudit Systems and Entanglement Measure of Symmetric States via Spin Coherent States. Part II: The Perma-Concurrence Parameter

Mohammed Daoud A, M. Kibler

This paper deals with separable and entangled qudits | ψ d ⟩ (quantum states in dimension d) constructed from Dicke states made of N = d − 1 qubits. Such qudits present the property to be totally symmetric under the interchange of the N qubits. We discuss the notion of perma-concurrence P d for the qudit | ψ d ⟩ , introduced by the authors (Entropy 2018, 20, 292), as a parameter for characterizing the entanglement degree of | ψ d ⟩ . For d = 3 , the perma-concurrence P 3 constitutes an alternative to the concurrence C for symmetric two-qubit states. We give several expressions of P d (in terms of matrix permanent and in terms of unit vectors of R 3 pointing on the Bloch sphere) and precise the range of variation of P d (going from separable to maximally entangled states). Numerous examples are presented for P d . Special attention is devoted to states of W type and to maximally entangled states of Bell and Greenberger–Horne–Zeilinger type.

Majorana stellar representation of phase states of symmetric multi-qubit systems

E. Mouhaoui, M. Alaoui, Bouchra Maroufi +1 more

In this paper, we construct à la Pegg–Barnett the phase states for a qudit ([Formula: see text]-level) system. The corresponding elementary excitation operators are identified with the raising and lowering generators generating a special variant of the generalized Weyl–Heisenberg algebras. The Majorana stellar representation for the phase states of a [Formula: see text]-level quantum system is discussed. In this sense, we employ the coherent states formalism and we use an analytical representation of Fock–Bargmann type to realize the elements of the representation space of the qudit algebra. This leads to coherent states of Perelomov type which provides a geometrical way to visualize a qudit phase state by mean a collection of [Formula: see text] points on the surface of the Bloch sphere.

From Majorana to Bloch: two ways to generalize the Bloch sphere representation

Louis Hanotel

While the Bloch sphere provides a canonical geometric representation for qubits, its generalization to pure qudit states ($d>2$) is not unique. This representation can be extended following two different approaches: increasing the number of points, as in the Majorana representation, or using a single point but in a space of larger dimension, as in the generalized Bloch representation. In this work, we compare these representations of pure qudit states by finding explicit analytical relations between them. In particular, a general formula of the Bloch vector in terms of the Majorana points of a given state is provided. We also analyze some suitable extensions of these representations in the case of pure permutation-symmetric two- and three-qubit states, deriving the corresponding relation between them. These analytical results allow us to study, from a geometric point of view, quantum correlations of special classes of two-qubit states.

Geometrical analysis and entanglement measure of symmetric multiqubit states

Bilal Benzimoun, Mohammed Daoud A

We geometrically examine the entanglement in symmetric multiquibt states using the spin coherent states properties. We employ the Majorana representation to examine how coherent (polarized) and unpolarized states can be represented in the Bloch sphere and subsequently to quantify entanglement in multipartite systems. Entanglement can be viewed as a distance separate two points in Bloch sphere and how this notion can be extended for multipartite states in W class. This provides us with an entanglement measure for [Formula: see text]-states analogue to the notion of Concurrence.

Development of new tools to detect, characterize and quantify quantum entanglement in multipartite systems

Antoine Neven

Quantum entanglement is a key property of quantum information theory, that is at the heart of numerous promising applications in fields such as quantum cryptography, quantum computing or quantum sensing. In the past decades, the advent of such innovative technologies has reinforced the need for a better understanding of entanglement. The aim of this thesis is to contribute to this effort through the development of new tools targeting the characterization of several features of entanglement. Concerning the issue of entanglement detection, we present an optimization of the approach that exploits the concept of generalized concurrences to solve the separability problem for pure states. We then reformulate the separability question of mixed states into a matrix analysis problem, from which we obtain general separability criteria for multipartite states of ranks two and three. We also briefly discuss some properties of separable states. In particular, we characterize optimal separable decompositions of symmetric (i.e. permutation invariant) states of two and three qubits with maximal rank properties. Regarding the quantification of entanglement, we propose a function to quantify the entanglement of symmetric multiqubit states within classes of entangled states gathering states that are stochastically equivalent through local operations assisted with classical communication. This function establishes a link between the amount of entanglement of a symmetric state and the distribution of its Majorana points on the Bloch sphere. We finally investigate the robustness of entanglement with respect to particle loss and provide a full description of all multiqubit states that are fragile for the loss of one of their qubits. For symmetric states, the fragility for the loss of one qubit is shown to be related to a particular symmetry of the Majorana points.

Coherent-State Approach for Majorana Representation*

Hao-Di 昊迪 Liu 刘, Libin Fu, Xiaoguang Wang

Abstract By representing a quantum state and its evolution with the Majorana stars on the Bloch sphere, the Majorana representation provides us an intuitive way to study a physical system with SU(2) symmetry. In this work, based on coherent states, we propose a method to establish the generalization of Majorana representation for a general symmetry. By choosing a generalized coherent state as a reference state, we give a more general Majorana representation for both finite and infinite systems and the corresponding star equations are given. Using this method, we study the squeezed vacuum states for three different symmetries, Heisenberg–Weyl, SU(2) and SU(1,1), and express the effect of squeezing parameter on the distribution of stars. Furthermore, we also study the dynamical evolution of stars for an initial coherent state driven by a nonlinear Hamiltonian, and find that at a special time point, the stars are distributed on two orthogonal large circles.
