Oscillating Bright Solitons in a Potential Trap for Bose?Einstein Condensates

Padma Kant Shukla, D. D. Tskhakaya

It is shown that a bright soliton in a spatially nonuniform potential trap for one dimensional Bose–Einstein condensates executes periodic oscillations. Expressions for the soliton oscillation frequency in different types of potential traps are obtained. Oscillating bright solitons may open possibilities for future applications in coherent atomic optics, atom soliton laser, atom transport, atom interferometry, and very accurate atomic clocks.

Production of strongly bound 39K bright solitons

S. Lepoutre, Lauriane Fouché, Amaudric Boissé +4 more

We report on the production of 39 K matter-wave bright solitons, i.e., 1D matter-waves that propagate without dispersion thanks to attractive interactions. The volume of the soliton is studied as a function of the scattering length through three-body losses, revealing peak densities as high as $\sim 5 \times 10^{20} m^{-3}$. Our solitons, close to the collapse threshold, are strongly bound and will find applications in fundamental physics and atom interferometry.

We report on the production of 39 K matter-wave bright solitons, i.e., 1D matter-waves that propagate without dispersion thanks to attractive interactions. The volume of the soliton is studied as a function of the scattering length through three-body losses, revealing peak densities as high as ∼5×1020m−3\sim 5 \times 10^{20} m^{-3}∼5×1020m−3. Our solitons, close to the collapse threshold, are strongly bound and will find applications in fundamental physics and atom interferometry.
