Universal Dissipationless Dynamics in Gaussian Continuous-Variable Open Systems

Abstract

We investigate the universal dissipationless dynamics of Gaussian continuous-variable systems in the presence of a band-gapped bosonic environment. Our results show that environmental band gaps can induce localized modes, which give rise to the dissipationless dynamics where the system behaves as free oscillators instead of experiencing a full decay in the long-time limit. We present a complete characterization of localized modes and show the existence of the critical system-environment coupling. Beyond the critical values, localized modes can be produced, and the system dynamics become dissipationless. This novel dynamics can be utilized to overcome the environmental noises and protect the quantum resources in the continuous-variable quantum information.

General Non-Markovian Dynamics of Open Quantum Systems

Wei-Min Zhang, Ping‐Yuan Lo, Heng-Na Xiong +2 more

We present a general theory of non-Markovian dynamics for open systems of noninteracting fermions (bosons) linearly coupled to thermal environments of noninteracting fermions (bosons). We explore the non-Markovian dynamics by connecting the exact master equations with the nonequilibirum Green's functions. Environmental backactions are fully taken into account. The non-Markovian dynamics consists of nonexponential decays and dissipationless oscillations. Nonexponential decays are induced by the discontinuity in the imaginary part of the self-energy corrections. Dissipationless oscillations arise from band gaps or the finite band structure of spectral densities. The exact analytic solutions for various non-Markovian thermal environments show that non-Markovian dynamics can be largely understood from the environmental-modified spectra of open systems.

Deep Thermalization in Gaussian Continuous-Variable Quantum Systems

Chang Liu, Qi Camm Huang, Wen Wei Ho

We uncover emergent universality arising in the equilibration dynamics of multimode continuous-variable systems. Specifically, we study the ensemble of pure states supported on a small subsystem of a few modes, generated by Gaussian measurements on the remaining modes of a globally pure bosonic Gaussian state. We find that beginning from highly entangled, complex global states, such as random Gaussian states and product squeezed states coupled via a deep array of linear optical elements, the induced ensemble attains a universal form, independent of the choice of measurement basis: it is composed of unsqueezed coherent states whose displacements are distributed normally and isotropically, with variance depending on only the particle-number density of the system. We further show that the emergence of such a universal form is consistent with a generalized maximum entropy principle, which endows the limiting ensemble, which we call the "Gaussian Scrooge distribution," with a special quantum information-theoretic property of having minimal accessible information. Our results represent a conceptual generalization of the recently introduced notion of "deep thermalization" in discrete-variable quantum many-body systems-a novel form of equilibration going beyond thermalization of local observables-to the realm of continuous-variable quantum systems. Moreover, it demonstrates how quantum information-theoretic perspectives can unveil new physical phenomena and principles in quantum dynamics and statistical mechanics.

Two-mode Open Quantum Systems: Decoherence and Localized Bound State Dynamics

Chia‐Yi Lin, Chuan-Zhe Yao, Hon-Lam Lai +2 more

Dissipationless localized bound states of open quantum systems are significantly robust to decoherence and have potential applications in quantum technologies. In this work, the decoherence dynamics and dissipationless localized bound states of a two-mode open quantum system are investigated. The conditions for the emergence of dissipationless localized bound states are analytically solved, and the corresponding critical system-environment couplings under different values of the inter-mode coupling and the detuning are determined. The decoherence dynamics of the system under such conditions are analyzed and dissipationless coherence between the different localized bound states against decoherence is clearly shown. This may provide a new avenue to develop dissipationless quantum technology for quantum operations.

ENTANGLEMENT IN OPEN QUANTUM SYSTEMS

Аурелиан Исар

In the framework of the theory of open systems based on quantum dynamical semigroups, we solve the master equation for two independent bosonic oscillators interacting with an environment in the asymptotic long-time regime. We give a description of the continuous-variable entanglement in terms of the covariance matrix of the quantum states of the considered system for an arbitrary Gaussian input state. Using the Peres-Simon necessary and sufficient condition for separability of two-mode Gaussian states, we show that the two non-interacting systems immersed in a common environment and evolving under a Markovian, completely positive dynamics become asymptotically entangled for certain environments, so that their non-local quantum correlations exist in the long-time regime.

Nonperturbative Treatment of non-Markovian Dynamics of Open Quantum Systems

Dario Tamascelli, Andrea Smirne, S. F. Huelga +1 more

We identify the conditions that guarantee equivalence of the reduced dynamics of an open quantum system (OQS) for two different types of environments-one a continuous bosonic environment leading to a unitary system-environment evolution and the other a discrete-mode bosonic environment resulting in a system-mode (nonunitary) Lindbladian evolution. Assuming initial Gaussian states for the environments, we prove that the two OQS dynamics are equivalent if both the expectation values and two-time correlation functions of the environmental interaction operators are the same at all times for the two configurations. Since the numerical and analytical description of a discrete-mode environment undergoing a Lindbladian evolution is significantly more efficient than that of a continuous bosonic environment in a unitary evolution, our result represents a powerful, nonperturbative tool to describe complex and possibly highly non-Markovian dynamics. As a special application, we recover and generalize the well-known pseudomodes approach to open-system dynamics.

Bosonization of Noise Effects in Nonlocal Quantum Dynamics

Michele Fantechi, Marco Merkli

Quantum systems that interact nonlocally with an environment are paradigms for exploring collective phenomena. They naturally emerge in various physical contexts involving long-range, many-body interactions. We consider a general class of such open systems characterized by a coupling to the environment that is inversely proportional to the square root of the environment size. We show that the induced system dynamics has a universal bosonic nature: the same evolution arises from coupling the system to a collection of noninteracting bosonic modes, independently of the microscopic structure of the original environment. This emergent "bosonization" of the environment's influence results from the scaling of the coupling in the thermodynamic limit and is a manifestation of the quantum central limit theorem. While the effect has been observed in specific models before, we show that it is, in fact, a universal feature.
