Abstract

We present a general approach for quantifying tolerance of a nonlocal N-partite state to any local noise under different classes of quantum correlation scenarios with arbitrary numbers of settings and outcomes at each site. This allows us to derive new precise bounds in d and N on noise tolerances for: (i) an arbitrary nonlocal N-qudit state; (ii) the N-qudit Greenberger–Horne–Zeilinger (GHZ) state; (iii) the N-qubit W state and the N-qubit Dicke states, and to analyse asymptotics of these precise bounds for large N and d .

Locality of a noisy N-qudit state for large N

Elena R. Loubenets

Locality of a noisy state for a large number of nonlocally entangled qudits was analyzed in the literature only in the qubit case and only within separability of a noisy N-qubit state. In the present paper, we evaluate amounts of noise breaking the nonlocal character of statistical correlations of $N$ entangled qudits by analyzing Bell inequalities violations via the general frame, the LqHV (local quasi hidden variable) modeling frame, introduced in [Loubenets: J. Math. Phys. 53, 022201 (2012)]. This allows us to derive the general exact bound on locality of a noisy N-qudit state which is new and important for all $N\geq 3$ and $d\geq 2.$ We specify the locality noise thresholds for the maximally entangled state and arbitrary nonlocal states of $N\geq 3$ qudits and study their asymptotics for large $N$. In view of developing quantum information technologies with many particle quantum systems, this problem is of a particular interest.

Locality of a noisy state for a large number of nonlocally entangled qudits

Elena R. Loubenets

Bounds, expressed in terms of d and N, on full Bell locality of a quantum state for $N\geq 3$ nonlocally entangled qudits (of a dimension $d\geq 2$) mixed with white noise are known, to our knowledge, only within full separability of this noisy N-qudit state. For the maximal violation of general Bell inequalities by an N-partite quantum state, we specify the analytical upper bound expressed in terms of dilation characteristics of this state, and this allows us to find new general bounds in $d, N$, valid for all $d\geq 2$ and all $N\geq 3$, on full Bell locality under generalized quantum measurements of (i) the N-qudit GHZ state mixed with white noise and (ii) an arbitrary N-qudit state mixed with white noise. The new full Bell locality bounds are beyond the known ranges for full separability of these noisy N-qudit states.

Quantifying Multipartite Nonlocality

Jean-Daniel Bancal, Cyril Branciard, Nicolas Gisin +1 more

The nonlocal correlations of multipartite entangled states can be reproduced by a classical model if sufficiently many parties join together or if sufficiently many parties broadcast their measurement inputs. The maximal number m of groups and the minimal number k of broadcasting parties that allow for the reproduction of a given set of correlations quantify their multipartite nonlocal content. We show how upper bounds on m and lower bounds on k can be computed from the violation of the Mermin-Svetlichny inequalities. While n-partite Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger states violate these inequalities maximally, we find that W states violate them only by a very small amount.

Full Bell locality of a noisy state for N ⩾ 3 nonlocally entangled qudits

Detecting nonlocality of noisy multipartite states with the Clauser-Horne-Shimony-Holt inequality

Rafael Chaves, Antonio Acín, Leandro Aolita +1 more

The Clauser-Horne-Shimony-Holt inequality was originally proposed as a Bell inequality to detect nonlocality in bipartite systems. However, it can also be used to certify the nonlocality of multipartite quantum states. We apply this to study the nonlocality of multipartite Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger (GHZ), W, and graph states under local decoherence processes. We derive lower bounds on the critical local-noise strength tolerated by the states before becoming local. In addition, for the whole noisy dynamics, we derive lower bounds on the corresponding nonlocal content for the three classes of states. All the bounds presented can be calculated efficiently and, in some cases, provide significantly tighter estimates than with any other known method. For example, they reveal that $N$-qubit GHZ states undergoing local dephasing are, for all $N$, nonlocal throughout all the dephasing dynamics.

Small quantum networks in the qudit stabilizer formalism

Miller, Daniel

How much noise can a given quantum state tolerate without losing its entanglement? For qudits of arbitrary dimension, I investigate this question for two noise models: Global white noise, where a depolarizing channel is applied to all qudits simultaneously, and local white noise, where a single qudit depolarizing channel is applied to every qudit individually. Using a unitary generalization of the Pauli group, I derive noise thresholds for stabilizer states, with an emphasis on graph states, and compare different entanglement criteria. The PPT and reduction criteria generally provide high noise thresholds, however, it is difficult to apply them in the case of local white noise. Entanglement criteria based on so-called sector lengths, on the other hand, provide coarse noise thresholds for both noise models. The only thing one has to know about a state to compute this threshold is the number of its full-weight stabilizers. In the special case of qubit graph states, I relate this question to a graph-theoretical puzzle and solve it for four important families of states. For Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger states under local white noise, I obtain for the first time a noise threshold below which so-called semiseparability is ruled out.
