Resurrecting the partially isotropic Haldane-Shastry model

Abstract

We present an alternative, simpler expression for the Hamiltonian of the partially isotropic (XXZ-like) version of the Haldane-Shastry model, which was derived by D. Uglov over two decades ago in an apparently little-known preprint. While resembling the pairwise long-range form of the Haldane-Shastry model, our formula accounts for the multispin interactions obtained by Uglov. Our expression is physically meaningful, makes hermiticity manifest, and is computationally more efficient. We discuss the model's properties, including its limits and (ordinary and quantum-affine) symmetries, and review the model's exact spectrum found by Uglov for finite spin-chain length, which parallels the isotropic case up to level splitting due to the anisotropy. We also extend the partially isotropic model to higher rank, with $SU(n)$ ``spins,'' for which the spectrum is determined by ${\mathfrak{sl}}_{n}$ motifs.

Spin-Ruijsenaars, q-Deformed Haldane–Shastry and Macdonald Polynomials

Jules Lamers, Vincent Pasquier, Didina Serban

Abstract We study the -analogue of the Haldane–Shastry model, a partially isotropic (xxz-like) long-range spin chain that by construction enjoys quantum-affine (really: quantum-loop) symmetries at finite system size. We derive the pairwise form of the Hamiltonian, found by one of us building on work of D. Uglov, via ‘freezing’ from the affine Hecke algebra. To this end we first obtain explicit expressions for the spin-Macdonald operators of the (trigonometric) spin-Ruijsenaars model. Through freezing these give rise to the higher Hamiltonians of the spin chain, including another Hamiltonian of the opposite ‘chirality’. The sum of the two chiral Hamiltonians has a real spectrum also when $$|\mathsf {q}|=1$$ |q|=1 , so in particular when is a root of unity. For generic $$\mathsf {q}$$ q the eigenspaces are known to be labelled by ‘motifs’. We clarify the relation between these patterns and the corresponding degeneracies (multiplicities) in the crystal limit $$\textsf {q}\rightarrow \infty $$ q→∞ . For each motif we obtain an explicit expression for the exact eigenvector, valid for generic , that has (‘pseudo’ or ‘l-’) highest weight in the sense that, in terms of the operators from the monodromy matrix, it is an eigenvector ofAand Dand annihilated byC. It has a simple component featuring the ‘symmetric square’ of the -Vandermonde polynomial times a Macdonald polynomial—or more precisely its quantum spherical zonal special case. All other components of the eigenvector are obtained from this through the action of the Hecke algebra, followed by ‘evaluation’ of the variables to roots of unity. We prove that our vectors have highest weight upon evaluation. Our description of the exact spectrum is complete. The entire model, including the quantum-loop action, can be reformulated in terms of polynomials. Our main tools are theY-operators from the affine Hecke algebra. From a more mathematical perspective the key step in our diagonalisation is as follows. We show that on a subspace of suitable polynomials the first M‘classical’ (i.e. no difference part)Y-operators inNvariables reduce, upon evaluation as above, toY-operators inMvariables with parameters at the quantum zonal spherical point.

1 A Note on Inverse-Square Exchange Models

Frank Göhmann, Miki Wadati

The su(1|1) symmetric version of the Haldane-Shastry spin chain is diagonalized by means of a linear transformation. The same transformation applied to the original su(2) model yields simple expressions for the Hamiltonian and the generators of the Yangian symmetry of the model in terms of spin wave operators. Several years ago Haldane and Shastry independently discovered a soluble spin chain with exchange interaction falling off as the inverse square of the distance between the spins [1, 2]. This model can be thought of as the static limit [3] of the Sutherland model with internal degrees of freedom [4, 5, 6]. The idea of putting internal degrees of freedom into the Calogero-Sutherland models has proved to be very fruitful since then. A rich family of related models has been found. These long range interacting systems are under active investigation now. A common algebraic structure underlying their integrability is still waiting for its discovery. In this letter we discuss a linear transformation, that turns the su(m|n) supersymmetric extension of the original Haldane-Shastry Hamiltonian into a more compact form,

Solvable Nonunitary Fermionic Long-Range Model with Extended Symmetry

Adel Ben Moussa, Jules Lamers, Didina Serban +1 more

We define and study a long-range version of the xx model, arising as the free-fermion point of the xxz-type Haldane-Shastry (HS) chain. It has a description via nonunitary fermions, based on the free-fermion Temperley-Lieb algebra, and may also be viewed as an alternating gl(1|1) spin chain. Even and odd lengths behave very differently; we focus on odd length. The model is integrable, and we explicitly identify two commuting Hamiltonians. While nonunitary, their spectrum is real by PT symmetry. One Hamiltonian is chiral and quadratic in fermions, while the other is parity invariant and quartic. Their one-particle spectra have two linear branches, realizing a massless relativistic dispersion on the lattice. The appropriate fermionic modes arise from "quasi-translation" symmetry, which replaces ordinary translation symmetry. The model exhibits exclusion statistics, like the isotropic HS chain, with even more "extended symmetry" and larger degeneracies.

Norms, overlaps and Yangian descendants for the Haldane-Shastry spin chain

Yunfeng Jiang, Jules Lamers, Yuan Miao

The Haldane-Shastry spin chain is a prototypical integrable model with long-range interactions, notable for hosting quasiparticles with fractional statistics and serving as a discrete analogue of a conformal field theory. Its remarkable simplicity is closely tied to a full Yangian spin symmetry. While the highest-weight states for this symmetry are known explicitly, a systematic treatment of the descendant states, needed for the computation of various physical quantities, has remained incomplete. In this work, we provide a detailed construction of these descendants in terms of the algebraic Bethe ansatz following recent work of Ferrando et al. In the limit of extreme twist, it includes the Gelfand-Tsetlin basis. As an application, we derive product and determinant formulae for norms and overlaps of these states.

The deformed Inozemtsev spin chain

Rob Klabbers, Jules Lamers

The Inozemtsev chain is an exactly solvable interpolation between the short-range Heisenberg and long-range Haldane–Shastry (HS) chains. In order to unlock its potential to study spin interactions with tunable interaction range using the powerful tools of integrability, the model’s mathematical properties require better understanding. As a major step in this direction, we present a new generalisation of the Inozemtsev chain with spin symmetry reduced to \textit{U}(1) 𝑈 ( 1 ) , interpolating between a Heisenberg XXZ chain and the XXZ-type HS chain, and integrable throughout. Underlying it is a new quantum many-body system that extends the elliptic Ruijsenaars system by including spins, contains the trigonometric spin-Ruijsenaars–Macdonald system as a special case, and yields our spin chain by ‘freezing’. Our models have potential applications from condensed-matter to high-energy theory, and provide a crucial step towards a general theory for long-range integrability.

A novel class of translationally invariant spin chains with long-range interactions

B. Basu-Mallick, F. Finkel, A. González-López

Abstract We introduce a new class of open, translationally invariant spin chains with long-range interactions depending on both spin permutation and (polarized) spin reversal operators, which includes the Haldane-Shastry chain as a particular degenerate case. The new class is characterized by the fact that the Hamiltonian is invariant under “twisted” translations, combining an ordinary translation with a spin flip at one end of the chain. It includes a remarkable model with elliptic spin-spin interactions, smoothly interpolating between the XXX Heisenberg model with anti-periodic boundary conditions and a new open chain with sites uniformly spaced on a half-circle and interactions inversely proportional to the square of the distance between the spins. We are able to compute in closed form the partition function of the latter chain, thereby obtaining a complete description of its spectrum in terms of a pair of independent su(1|1) and su(m/2) motifs when the number m of internal degrees of freedom is even. This implies that the even m model is invariant under the direct sum of the Yangians Y (gl(1|1)) and Y (gl(0|m/2)). We also analyze several statistical properties of the new chain’s spectrum. In particular, we show that it is highly degenerate, which strongly suggests the existence of an underlying (twisted) Yangian symmetry also for odd m.
