Abstract

The quantum coherence of one-dimensional planar spin models with Dzyaloshinsky-Moriya interaction is investigated. The anisotropic XY model, the isotropic XX model, and the transverse field model are studied in the large $N$ limit using two qubit reduced density matrices and two point correlation functions. From our investigations we find that the coherence as measured using Jensen-Shannon divergence can be used to detect quantum phase transitions and quantum critical points. The derivative of coherence shows nonanalytic behavior at critical points, leading to the conclusion that these transitions are of second order. Further, we show that the presence of Dzyaloshinsky-Moriya coupling suppresses the phase transition due to residual ferromagnetism, which is caused by spin canting.

Quantum coherence of XY model with Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction

In this paper, we study the quantum coherence of one-dimensional transverse XY model with Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction, which is given by the following Hamiltonian:HXY=∑i=1N((1+γ/2) σixσi+1x+(1-γ/2) σiyσi+1y-hσiz) ∑i=1ND(σixσi+1y-σiyσi+1x).(8)Here, 0 ≤ γ ≤ 1 is the anisotropic parameter, h is the magnitude of the transverse magnetic field, D is the strength of Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya (DM) interaction along the z direction. The limiting cases such as γ=0 and 1 reduce to the isotropic XX model and the Ising model, respectively. We use the Jordan-Winger transform to map explicitly spin operators into spinless fermion operators, and then adopt the discrete Fourier transform and the Bogoliubov transform to solve the Hamiltonian Eq.(8) analytically. When the DM interactions appear, the excitation spectrum becomes asymmetric in the momentum space and is not always positive, and thus a gapless chiral phase is induced. Based on the exact solutions, three phases are identified by varying the parameters:antiferromagnetic phase, paramagnetic phase, and gapless chiral phase. The antiferromagnetic phase is characterized by the dominant x-component nearest correlation function, while the paramagnetic phase can be characterized by the z component of spin correlation function. The two-site correlation functions Grxy and Gryx (r is the distance between two sites) are nonvanishing in the gapless chiral phase, and they act as good order parameters to identify this phase. The critical lines correspond to h=1, γ=2D, and h=√4D2 -γ2 + 1 for γ>0. When γ=0, there is no antiferromagnetic phase. We also find that the correlation functions undergo a rapid change across the quantum critical points, which can be pinpointed by the first-order derivative. In addition, Grxy decreases oscillatingly with the increase of distance r. The correlation function Grxy for γ=0 oscillates more dramatically than for γ=1. The upper boundary of the envelope is approximated as Grxy~r-1/2, and the lower boundary is approximately Grxy~r-3/2, so the long-range order is absent in the gapless chiral phase. Besides, we study various quantum coherence measures to quantify the quantum correlations of Eq.(8). One finds that the relative entropy CRE and the Jensen-Shannon entropy CJS are able to capture the quantum phase transitions, and quantum critical points are readily discriminated by their first derivative. We conclude that both quantum coherence measures can well signify the second-order quantum phase transitions. Moreover, we also point out a few differences in deriving the correlation functions and the associated density matrix in systems with broken reflection symmetry.

Quantum Fisher information and coherence in one-dimensional XY spin models with Dzyaloshinsky-Moriya interactions

We investigate quantum phase transitions in XY spin models using Dzyaloshinsky-Moriya (DM) interactions. We identify the quantum critical points via quantum Fisher information and quantum coherence, finding that higher DM couplings suppress quantum phase transitions. However, quantum coherence (characterized by the l 1 -norm and relative entropy) decreases as the DM coupling increases. Herein, we present both analytical and numerical results.

Steered Quantum Coherence and Quantum Criticality in the XY Model with Dzyaloshinsky–Moriya Interaction

Yu-Xia Xie

The critical behaviors of the steered quantum coherence (SQC) in the transverse field XY model with Dzyaloshinsky–Moriya (DM) interaction are explored. It is found that there is an inflexion for the SQC at the critical field of quantum phase transition (QPT) for two long‐distance spins, and there is a divergence for the derivative of the SQC with respect to the magnetic field at the critical field of QPT for any two spins in the chain. Moreover, SQC shows distinct behaviors in different phase regions of the model, which is also a signature of the QPT. Furthermore, the SQC method is robust in studying quantum criticality even under environmental coupling.

Critical entanglement and geometric phase of a two-qubit model with Dzyaloshinski–Moriya anisotropic interaction

Li Zhi-Jian, Xinlu Cheng, Wen Jiao-Jin

We consider a two-qubit system described by the Heisenberg XY model with Dzyaloshinski–Moriya (DM) anisotropic interaction in a perpendicular magnetic field to investigate the relation between entanglement, geometric phase and quantum phase transition (QPT). It is shown that the DM interaction has an effect on the critical boundary. The combination of entanglement and geometric phase may characterize QPT completely. Their jumps mean that the occurrence of QPT and inversely the QPT at the critical point at least corresponds to a jump of one of them.

Quantum coherence of the Heisenberg spin models with Dzyaloshinsky-Moriya interactions

Abstract We study quantum coherence in a spin chain with both symmetric exchange and antisymmetric Dzyaloshinsky-Moriya couplings. Quantum coherence is quantified using the recently introduced quantum Jensen-Shannon divergence, which has the property that it is easily calculable and has several desirable mathematical properties. We calculate exactly the coherence for arbitrary number of spins at zero temperature in various limiting cases. The σ z σ z interaction tunes the amount of coherence in the system, and the antisymmetric coupling changes the nature of the coherence. We also investigate the effect of non-zero temperature by looking at a two-spin system and find similar behavior, with temperature dampening the coherence. The characteristic behavior of coherence resembles that of entanglement and is opposite to that of discord. The distribution of the coherence on the spins is investigated and found that it arises entirely due to the correlations between the spins.

Quantum entanglement and quantum phase transition in the XY model with staggered Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction

Fu-Wu Ma, Shengxin Liu, Xiang-Mu Kong

We study the quantum entanglement and quantum phase transition (QPT) of the anisotropic spin-$1/2$ $XY$ model with staggered Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya (DM) interaction by means of the quantum renormalization group method. The scaling of coupling constants and the critical points of the system are obtained. It is found that when the number of renormalization group iterations tends to infinity, the system exhibit a QPT between the spin-fluid and N\'eel phases which correspond with two saturated values of the concurrence for a given value of the strength of DM interaction. The DM interaction can enhance the entanglement and influence the QPT of the system. To gain further insight, the first derivative of the entanglement exhibit a nonanalytic behavior at the critical point and it directly associates with the divergence of the correlation length. This shows that the correlation length exponent is closely related to the critical exponent, i.e., the scaling behaviors of the system.
