Abstract

Deep connections between invariant theory and entanglement have been known for some time and been the object of intense study. This includes the study of local unitary equivalence of density operators as well as entanglement that can be observed in stochastic local operations assisted by classical communication (SLOCC). An important aspect of both of these areas is the computation of complete sets of invariants polynomials. For local unitary equivalence as well as $n$-qubit SLOCC invariants, complete descriptions of these invariants exist. However, these descriptions give infinite sets; of great interest is finding generating sets of invariants. In this regard, degree bounds are highly sought after to limit the possible sizes of such generating sets. In this paper we give new upper bounds on the degrees of the invariants, both for a certain complete set of local unitary invariants as well as the $n$-qubit SLOCC invariants. We show that there exists a complete set of local unitary invariants of density operators in a Hilbert space $\mathcal{H}$, of dimension $d$, which are generated by invariants of degree at most $d^4$. This in turn allows us to show that the $n$-qubit SLOCC invariants are generated by invariants of degree at most $2^{4n}$.

A Complete Set of Invariants for LU-Equivalence of Density Operators

Jacob Turner, Jason Morton

We show that two density operators of mixed quantum states are in the same local unitary orbit if and only if they agree on polynomial invariants in a certain Noetherian ring for which degree bounds are known in the literature. This implicitly gives a finite complete set of invariants for local unitary equivalence. This is done by showing that local unitary equivalence of density operators is equivalent to local GL equivalence and then using techniques from algebraic geometry and geometric invariant theory. We also classify the SLOCC polynomial invariants and give a degree bound for generators of the invariant ring in the case of n-qubit pure states.Of course it is well known that polynomial invariants are not a complete set of invariants for SLOCC.

COMPUTING THE DEGREE-4 INVARIANT POLYNOMIAL BASIS FOR 7 QUBITS

Alimzhan Amanov

Understanding the complexity of entangled states within the context of SLOCC (stochastic local operations and classical communications) involving several number qubits is essential for advancing our knowledge of quantum systems. This complexity is often analyzed by classifying the states via local symmetry groups. Practically, tthe resulting classes can be distinguished using invariant polynomials, but the size of these polynomials grows rapidly. Hence, it is crucial to obtain the smallest possible invariants. In this short note, we compute the basis of invariant polynomials of 7 qubits of degree 4, which are the smallest degree invariants. We obtain these polynomials using the representation theory and algebraic combinatorics.

Entanglement of four-qubit systems: A geometric atlas with polynomial compass II (the tame world)

Frédéric Holweck, Jean-Gabriel Luque, Jean‐Yves Thibon

We propose a new approach to the geometry of the four-qubit entanglement classes depending on parameters. More precisely, we use invariant theory and algebraic geometry to describe various stratifications of the Hilbert space by Stochastic Local Operations with Classical Communication (SLOCC) invariant algebraic varieties. The normal forms of the four-qubit classification of Verstraete et al. are interpreted as dense subsets of components of the dual variety of the set of separable states and an algorithm based on the invariants/covariants of the four-qubit quantum states is proposed to identify a state with a SLOCC equivalent normal form (up to qubits permutation).

The mixed two qutrit system: local unitary invariants, entanglement monotones, and the SLOCC group $SL(3,{\mathbb {C}})$

Peter Jarvis

We consider local unitary invariants and entanglement monotones for the mixed two qutrit system. Character methods for the local SU(3)xSU(3) transformation group are used to establish the count of algebraically independent polynomial invariants up to degree 5 in the components of the density operator. These are identified up to quartic degree in the standard basis of Gell-Mann matrices, with the help of the calculus of f and d coefficients. Next, investigating local measurement operations, we study a SLOCC qutrit group, which plays the role of a `relativistic' transformation group analogous to that of the Lorentz group SL(2,C)_R ~ SO(3,1) for the qubit case. This is the group SL(3,C)_R, presented as a group of real 9x9 matrices acting linearly on the 9-dimensional space of projective coordinates for the qutrit density matrix. The counterpart, for qutrits, of the invariant 4x4 Minkowski metric of the qubit case, proves to be a certain 9x9x9 totally symmetric three-fold tensor generalizing the Gell-Mann d coefficient. Using this structure, we provide a count of the corresponding LSL polynomial invariants using group character methods. Finally, we give an explicit construction of the lowest degree quantity (the cubic invariant) and its expansion in terms of SU(3)xSU(3) invariants, and we indicate how to construct higher degree analogues. These quantities are proven to yield entanglement monotones. This work generalizes and partly extends the paper of King, Welsh and Jarvis (Journal of Physics A, 40(33):10083, 2007) on the mixed two qubit system, which is reviewed in an appendix.

Bargmann invariants and local unitary equivalence

Minghui Ma, Rui Shi

In this paper, we study the local unitary equivalence of quantum states on $\mathbb{C}^n\otimes\mathbb{C}^n$, which is an important notion in quantum information theory. For the case $n=2$, the local unitary orbits of two-qubit states are completely determined by their local unitary Bargmann invariants. We show that the local unitary Bargmann invariants do not form a complete set of invariants of local unitary orbits for $n\geqslant 3$, which negatively answers a problem proposed by L. Zhang and B. Xie.

Stochastic local operations and classical communication invariants via square matrix

Xin-Wei Zha, Irfan Ahmed, Da Zhang +2 more

Abstract In this paper, we raise a few corrections from the Li et al paper (2015 Phys. Rev . A 91 012302). We obtain some stochastic local operations and classical communication (SLOCC) invariants from second degree to sixth degree by defining square matrices. The relation of SLOCC invariants and the character polynomial of the square matrix are defined for three and four qubit states. This method comes as a useful resource in determining SLOCC invariants for n-qubit states.
