Abstract

We investigate the quench dynamics of a one-dimensional incommensurate lattice described by the Aubry-Andr\'e model by a sudden change of the strength of incommensurate potential $\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Delta}}$ and unveil that the dynamical signature of localization-delocalization transition can be characterized by the occurrence of zero points in the Loschmidt echo. For the quench process with quenching taking place between two limits of $\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Delta}}=0$ and $\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Delta}}=\ensuremath{\infty}$, we give analytical expressions of the Loschmidt echo, which indicate the existence of a series of zero points in the Loschmidt echo. For a general quench process, we calculate the Loschmidt echo numerically and analyze its statistical behavior. Our results show that if both the initial and post-quench Hamiltonian are in extended phase or localized phase, Loschmidt echo will always be greater than a positive number; however if they locate in different phases, Loschmidt echo can reach nearby zero at some time intervals.

Zeros of Loschmidt echo in the presence of Anderson localization

Hong-Hao Yin, Shu Chen, Gao Xianlong +1 more

We study the Loschmidt echo and the dynamical free energy of the Anderson model after a quench of the disorder strength. If the initial state is extended and the eigenstates of the postquench Hamiltonian are strongly localized, we argue that the Loschmidt echo exhibits zeros periodically with the period $2\ensuremath{\pi}/D$, where $D$ is the width of spectra. At these zeros, the dynamical free energy diverges in a logarithmic way. We present numerical evidence of our argument in one- and three-dimensional Anderson models. Our findings connect the dynamical quantum phase transitions to the localization-delocalization phase transitions.

Signature of a nonequilibrium quantum phase transition in the long-time average of the Loschmidt echo

Bozhen Zhou, Chao Yang, Shu Chen

We unveil the role of the long-time average of the Loschmidt echo in the characterization of nonequilibrium quantum phase transitions by studying sudden quench processes across quantum phase transitions in various quantum systems. While the dynamical quantum phase transitions are characterized by the emergence of a series of zero points at critical times during time evolution, we demonstrate that nonequilibrium quantum phase transitions can be identified by nonanalyticities in the long-time average of the Loschmidt echo. The nonanalytic behaviors are illustrated by a sharp change in the long-time average of the Loschmidt echo or the corresponding rate function or the emergence of divergence in the second derivative of the rate function when the driving quench parameter crosses the phase transition points. The connection between the second derivative of the rate function and fidelity susceptibility is also discussed.

Dynamical observation of mobility edges in one-dimensional incommensurate optical lattices

Zhihao Xu, Hongli Huangfu, Yunbo Zhang +1 more

Abstract We investigate the wave packet dynamics for a one-dimensional incommensurate optical lattice with a special on-site potential which exhibits the mobility edge in a compactly analytic form. We calculate the density propagation, long-time survival probability and mean square displacement of the wave packet in the regime with the mobility edge and compare with the cases in extended, localized and multifractal regimes. Our numerical results indicate that the dynamics in the mobility-edge regime mix both extended and localized features which is quite different from that in the mulitfractal phase. We utilize the Loschmidt echo dynamics by choosing different eigenstates as initial states and sudden changing the parameters of the system to distinguish the phases in the presence of such system.

Chebyshev polynomial approach to Loschmidt echo: Application to quench dynamics in two-dimensional quasicrystals

Niaz Ali Khan, Shihao Ye, Ziheng Zhou +2 more

The understanding of quantum phase transitions in disordered or quasicrystal media is a central issue in condensed matter physics. In this paper we investigate localization properties of the two-dimensional Aubry-André model. We find that the system exhibits self-duality for the transformation between position and momentum spaces at a critical quasiperiodic potential, leading to an energy-independent Anderson transition. Most importantly, we present the implementation of an efficient and accurate algorithm based on the Chebyshev polynomial expansion of the Loschmidt echo, which characterizes the nonequilibrium dynamics of quantum quenched quasiperiodic systems. We analytically prove that the system under quench dynamics displays dynamical quantum phase transitions and further provide numerical verification by computing the polynomial expansion of the Loschmidt echo. Our results may provide insight into the realization of electronic transport in experiments.

Dynamics of a quantum phase transition in the Aubry-André-Harper model with p -wave superconductivity

Xianqi Tong, Ye-Ming Meng, Xunda Jiang +3 more

We investigate the nonequilibrium dynamics of the one-dimension Aubry-Andr\'e-Harper model with $p$-wave superconductivity by changing the potential strength with slow and sudden quench. Firstly, we study the slow quench dynamics from the localized phase to the critical phase by linearly decreasing the potential strength $V$. The localization length is finite and its scaling obeys the Kibble-Zurek mechanism. The results show that the second-order phase transition line shares the same critical exponent $z\ensuremath{\nu}$, giving the correlation length $\ensuremath{\nu}=1$ and dynamical exponent $z=1.373\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.023$, which are different from the Aubry-Andr\'e model. Secondly, we also study the sudden quench dynamics between three different phases: localized phase, critical phase, and extended phase. In the limit of $V=0$ and $V=\ensuremath{\infty}$, we analytically study the sudden quench dynamics via the Loschmidt echo. The results suggest that, if the initial state and the post-quench Hamiltonian are in different phases, the Loschmidt echo vanishes at some time intervals. Furthermore, we found that, if the initial value is in the critical phase, the direction of quenching is the same as one of the two limits mentioned before, and similar behaviors will occur.

Quench dynamics in the Aubry–André–Harper model with p-wave superconductivity

Qi-Bo Zeng, Shu Chen, Rong Lü

The Anderson localization phase transition in the Aubry–André–Harper (AAH) model with p -wave superconducting (SC) pairing is numerically investigated by suddenly changing the on-site potential from zero to various finite values which fall into the extended, critical and localized phase regimes shown in this model. The time evolution of entanglement entropy (EE), mean width of wave packets and Loschmidt echo of the system exhibit distinct but consistent dynamical signatures in those three phases. Specifically, the EE grows as a power function of time with the exponent of which varies in the extended phase but keeps almost unchanged in the critical phase for different quench parameters. However, if the system is in the localized phase after a quench, the EE grows much slower and will soon get saturated. The time-dependent width of wave packets in the system shows similar behaviors as the EE. In addition, from the perspective of the dynamical phase transition, we find that the Loschmidt echo oscillates and always keeps finite when the system is quenched in the extended phase. In contrast, in the critical or localized phase, the echo will reach to zero at some time intervals or will decay almost to zero after a long-time evolution. The universal features of these quantities in the critical phase of the system with various SC pairing amplitudes are also observed.
