Entanglement entropy in integrable field theories with line defects. Part I. Topological defect

Abstract

In this paper and a companion one [1], we study the effect of integrable line defects on entanglement entropy in massive integrable field theories in 1+1 dimensions. The current paper focuses on topological defects that are purely transmissive. Using the form factor bootstrap method, we show that topological defects do not affect the the entanglement entropy in the UV limit and modify slightly the leading exponential correction in the IR. This conclusion holds for both unitary and non-unitary field theories. In contrast, non-topological defects affect the entanglement entropy more significantly both in UV and IR limit and will be studied in the companion paper.

Entanglement entropy in integrable field theories with line defects II. Non-topological defect

Yunfeng Jiang

This is the second part of two papers where we study the effect of integrable line defects on bipartite entanglement entropy in integrable field theories. In this paper, we consider non-topological line defects in Ising field theory. We derive an infinite series expression for the entanglement entropy and show that both the UV and IR limits of the bulk entanglement entropy are modified by the line defect. In the UV limit, we give an infinite series expression for the coefficient in front of the logarithmic divergence and the exact defect g-function. By tuning the defect to be purely transmissive and reflective, we recover correctly the entanglement entropy of the bulk and with integrable boundary respectively.

$T\bar{T}$-deformed Entanglement Entropy for Integrable Quantum Field Theory

Miao He, Jue Hou, Yunfeng Jiang

We calculate the $T\bar{T}$-deformed entanglement entropy for integrable quantum field theories (IQFTs) using the form factor bootstrap approach. We solve the form factor bootstrap axioms for the branch-point twist fields and obtain the deformed form factors. Using these form factors, we compute the deformed von Neuman entropy up to two particle contributions. The solution of the form factor axioms is not unique. We find that for the simplest solution of the bootstrap axioms, the UV limit of the entanglement entropy takes the same form as the undeformed one, but the effective central charge is deformed. For solutions with additional CDD-like factors, we can have different behaviors. The IR corrections, which only depends on the particle spectrum is untouched.

Entanglement entropy of non-unitary integrable quantum field theory

Davide Bianchini, Olalla A. Castro-Alvaredo, Benjamin Doyon

In this paper we study the simplest massive 1+1 dimensional integrable quantum field theory which can be described as a perturbation of a non-unitary minimal conformal field theory: the Lee-Yang model. We are particularly interested in the features of the bi-partite entanglement entropy for this model and on building blocks thereof, namely twist field form factors. Non-unitarity selects out a new type of twist field as the operator whose two-point function (appropriately normalized) yields the entanglement entropy. We compute this two-point function both from a form factor expansion and by means of perturbed conformal field theory. We find good agreement with CFT predictions put forward in a recent work involving the present authors. In particular, our results are consistent with a scaling of the entanglement entropy given by $\frac{c_{\text{eff}}}{3}\log \ell$ where $c_{\text{eff}}$ is the effective central charge of the theory (a positive number related to the central charge) and $\ell$ is the size of the region. Furthermore the form factor expansion of twist fields allows us to explore the large region limit of the entanglement entropy and find the next-to-leading order correction to saturation. We find that this correction is very different from its counterpart in unitary models. Whereas in the latter case, it had a form depending only on few parameters of the model (the particle spectrum), it appears to be much more model-dependent for non-unitary models.

Fusion of Integrable Defects and the Defect $g$-Function

Yang He, Yunfeng Jiang, Yuxiao Liu

We study exact defect $g$-functions for integrable line defects in two-dimensional integrable quantum field theory and use them to probe defect fusion. We consider three settings: fusion of purely transmitting topological defects, fusion of non-topological defects with reflection and transmission, and fusion of a defect with an integrable boundary. For topological defects, the separated logarithmic $g$-function is additive, and the fusion limit is controlled by the multiplicative composition of transmission factors. For non-topological defects, separation-dependent phases in the Bethe-Yang equations produce oscillatory finite-size effects, while the fused defect is described by effective reflection and transmission amplitudes. In the Ising examples studied here, fusion involving non-topological defects lowers the finite localized contribution to the entropy, whereas topological defect-boundary fusion leaves it unchanged.

Bipartite Entanglement Entropy in Massive Two-Dimensional Quantum Field Theory

Benjamin Doyon

Recently, Cardy, Castro Alvaredo, and the author obtained the first exponential correction to saturation of the bipartite entanglement entropy at large region lengths in massive two-dimensional integrable quantum field theory. It depends only on the particle content of the model, and not on the way particles scatter. Based on general analyticity arguments for form factors, we propose that this result is universal, and holds for any massive two-dimensional model (also out of integrability). We suggest a link of this result with counting pair creations far in the past.
