T-bulge single photon quantum router with three level system

Abstract

This paper considers the transmission characteristics of incidenting from an infinte coupled-resonator waveguide (CRW) or a semi-infinite CRW, respectively. The Nth cavity of a semi-infinite CRW intersecting with an infinite CRW and a cascade three level system(CTLS) form a T-bulge structure. Due to symmetry breaking boundary, the maximum of transfer rate would reach unity when light incidenting from the semi-infinite CRW, while reach 0.5 for infinite CRW case. The position of the intersection have effect on the location of the extreme point of the transmission coefficients changing with couple strength. 4D figures are used to illustrate the transmission characteristics, which is more visable.

T-shaped single-photon router

Jing Lu, Zhihai Wang, Lan Zhou

We study the transport properties of a single photon scattered by a two-level system (TLS) in a T-shaped waveguide, which is made of two coupled-resonator waveguides (CRWs)- an infinite CRW and a semi-infinite CRW. The spontaneous emission of the TLS directs single photons from one CRW to the other. Although the transfer rate is different for the wave incident from different CRWs, due to the boundary breaking the translational symmetry, the boundary can enhance the transfer rate found in Phys. Rev. Lett. 111, 103604 (2013) and Phys. Rev. A 89, 013805 (2014), as the transfer rate could be unity for the wave incident from the semi-infinite CRW.

Coherent control of single-photon scattering in a T-shaped waveguide by a single photon

Mu-Tian Cheng, Yan‐Yan Song, Xiao-San Ma

We have investigated the single-photon transport property in a T-shaped coupled-resonant waveguide (CRW), which consists of an infinite CRW and a semi-infinite CRW, coupled to a cascaded three-level emitter. A c-mode cavity field is introduced to drive the one transition of the cascaded three-level system. Two cases that a single photon is incident from the infinite CRW and semi-infinite CRW are considered, respectively. We obtain the transmission, reflection and transfer amplitudes analytically and our results show that the transmission, reflection and transfer rates can be controlled by adjusting the detuning and coupling strengths between the c-mode cavity field and one transition of the three-level system. Our study provides a full quantum control scheme of single-photon transport properties in a T-shaped waveguide.

Transport properties of the non-Hermitian T-shaped quantum router

Lin Liu, Ji Hong Zhang, L. Jin +1 more

In this study, we design a T-shaped quantum router that comprises two-level systems (TLSs), an infinite coupled resonator waveguide (CRW), and a semi-infinite CRW. The loss (absorption) and gain (amplification) of the energy levels of the TLSs can be considered as energy exchange between the system and its environment. Considering loss in the ground state and gain in the excited state of the TLSs and loss of cavities, the system is non-energy-conserving and non-Hermitian. Loss in the system consists of loss of cavities and TLSs. The total transmission probabilities (TPs) of photons in the system are equal to 1 or lower when the system has loss only. Loss causes a bounce-back phenomenon in the TPs. The TPs have a divergent point when the TLSs have gain, and we obtain this divergent condition. The reflection probability has a minimal point only when photons are incident from the semi-infinite CRW and the system has loss. The TPs of the non-Hermitian router are increased by gain, decreased by loss, and conserved under certain conditions.

Bidirectional highly-efficient quantum routing in a T-bulge-shaped waveguide*

Jiahao Zhang, Da-Yong He, Gangyin Luo +2 more

Quantum routing in a T-bulge-shaped waveguide system coupled with a driven cyclic three-level atom and a two-level atom is investigated theoretically. By employing the discrete-coordinate scattering method, exact expressions of the transport coefficients along three ports of the waveguide channels are derived. Our results show that bidirectional high transfer-rate single-photon routing between two channels can be effectively implemented, with the help of the effective potential generated by two atoms and the external driving. Moreover, multiple band zero-transmission emerges in the scattering spectra, arising from the quantum interferences among photons scattered by the boundary and the bulged resonators. The proposed system may suggest an efficient duplex router with filtering functions.

Single-photon nonreciprocal transport in one-dimensional coupled-resonator waveguides

Xun‐Wei Xu, Aixi Chen, Yong Li +1 more

We study the transport of a single photon in two coupled one-dimensional semi-infinite coupled-resonator waveguides (CRWs), in which both end sides are coupled to a dissipative cavity. We demonstrate that a single photon can transfer from one semi-infinite CRW to the other nonreciprocally. Based on such nonreciprocity, we further construct a three-port single-photon circulator by a T-shaped waveguide, in which three semi-infinite CRWs are pairwise mutually coupled to each other. The single-photon nonreciprocal transport is induced by the breaking of the time-reversal symmetry and the optimal conditions for these phenomena are obtained analytically. The CRWs with broken time-reversal symmetry will open up a kind of quantum device with versatile applications in quantum networks.

Nonreciprocal single-photon router in quantum networks

Guo-An Yan, Hua Lu

Abstract High-efficiency single-photon routing of photon signals between different quantum channels is of great importance for the quantum networks with the ability to coherently transfer quantum states between the desired sender and receiver nodes. We proposed an efficient scheme for realizing quantum routers via multiple semi-infinite coupled-resonator waveguides ( CRWs ) coupled to cavities nonreciprocally. Numerical results show that with the change of the phase difference value, the quantum routing function of multiple output ports can be realized, in the meantime, the information conversion rate can almost reach 100%. The optimal conditions for these phenomena are obtained by the time-reversal symmetry breaking the nonreciprocal of the single-photon transport. Moreover, we have also described a scalable scheme that can extend the router to an arbitrary number of outputs. Our results pave the way to design high-quality quantum devices based on breaking time-reversal symmetry waveguide-cavity systems.
