Abstract

To generate a NOON state with a large photon number $N$, the number of operational steps could be large and the fidelity will decrease rapidly with $N$. Here we propose a method to generate a type of quantum entangled states, $(|NN00\ensuremath{\rangle}+|00NN\ensuremath{\rangle})/\sqrt{2}$, called ``double NOON'' states, with a setup of two superconducting flux qutrits and five circuit cavities. This scheme operates essentially by employing a two-photon process; i.e., two photons are simultaneously and separately emitted into two cavities when each coupler qutrit is initially in a higher-energy excited state. As a consequence, the ``double'' NOON state creation needs only $N+2$ operational steps. One application of double NOON states is to get a phase error of $1/(2N)$ in phase measurement. In comparison, to achieve the same error, a normal NOON state of the form $(|2N,0\ensuremath{\rangle}+|0,2N\ensuremath{\rangle})/\sqrt{2}$ is needed, which requires at least $2N$ operational steps to prepare by using the existing schemes. Our numerical simulation demonstrates that high-fidelity generation of the double NOON states with $N\ensuremath{\le}10$ even for imperfect devices is feasible with the present circuit QED technique.

Efficient scheme for generation of photonic NOON states in circuit QED

Shao-Jie Xiong, Zhe Sun, Jin-Ming Liu +2 more

We propose an efficient scheme for generating photonic NOON states of two resonators coupled to a four-level superconducting flux device (coupler). This proposal operates essentially by employing a technique of a coupler resonantly interacting with two resonators simultaneously. As a consequence, the NOON-state preparation requires only N+1 operational steps and thus is much faster when compared with a recent proposal [Su et al, Sci. Rep.4, 3898 (2014)] requiring 2N steps of operation. Moreover, due to the use of only two resonators and a coupler, the experimental setup is much simplified when compared with previous proposals requiring three resonators and two superconducting qubits/qutrits.

Fast and simple scheme for generating NOON states of photons in circuit QED

Qi-Ping Su, Chui‐Ping Yang, Shi‐Biao Zheng

The generation, manipulation and fundamental understanding of entanglement lies at very heart of quantum mechanics. Among various types of entangled states, the NOON states are a kind of special quantum entangled states with two orthogonal component states in maximal superposition, which have a wide range of potential applications in quantum communication and quantum information processing. Here, we propose a fast and simple scheme for generating NOON states of photons in two superconducting resonators by using a single superconducting transmon qutrit. Because only one superconducting qutrit and two resonators are used, the experimental setup for this scheme is much simplified when compared with the previous proposals requiring a setup of two superconducting qutrits and three cavities. In addition, this scheme is easier and faster to implement than the previous proposals, which require using a complex microwave pulse, or a small pulse Rabi frequency in order to avoid nonresonant transitions.

Efficient and flexible preparation of photonic NOON states in a superconducting system

Dong-Sheng Li, Yi-Hao Kang, Zhi-Cheng Shi +3 more

The NOON states play a critical role as physical resources in quantum information processing and quantum metrology, yet their preparation efficiency and applicability are often constrained by complicated operational procedures or the requirement for nonlinear interactions. In this paper, we propose an efficient protocol to generate the NOON states within two microwave cavities embedded in a superconducting system, assisted by an auxiliary five-level qudit. The state preparation is accomplished in three steps for an arbitrary photon number $N$ by adjusting only external classical fields, while keeping the qudit-cavity coupling strengths and the qudit level spacings fixed. Based on parameters accessible in superconducting systems, numerical simulations show that the protocol achieves relatively high fidelity for the NOON states preparation even in the presence of parameter fluctuations and decoherence effects. Thus, this protocol may provide a practical approach for preparing the NOON states with current technology. Notably, since nonlinear interactions are not required, the protocol is flexible and has the potential to be applied across various physical systems.

Efficient preparation of high-dimensional hybrid entangled states in circuit quantum electrodynamics

Wang-Chu Lv, Wentao Zhao, Yu Wang +6 more

High-dimensional quantum systems, known as qudits with dimension $d>2$, possess the capability to encode and process more information than traditional two-dimensional qubits. Entangled states serve as crucial resources for both quantum computation and quantum communication. On the basis of circuit quantum electrodynamics (QED) systems, we introduce an efficient scheme to deterministically generate high-dimensional multipartite entangled states of hybrid qutrits ($d=3$). Assuming a simple initial state has already been prepared with the use of local operations, our method requires only a single step to produce hybrid Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger (GHZ) entangled states among circuit QED systems consisting of superconducting qutrits and a superconducting cavity. Remarkably, the number of steps and the operational time remain constant as the number of qutrits increases, highlighting the efficiency and scalability of our approach. Using numerical simulations for a three-dimensional hybrid GHZ state of seven qutrits, we demonstrate the feasibility of our scheme and study the effects of various parameters on the fidelity. The importance of this research is in directing the experimental creation of multipartite, high-dimensional, and hybrid GHZ states, which can then be used to enhance quantum communication protocols and computational processes.

Preparation of maximally-entangled states with multiple cat-state qutrits in circuit QED

Chui‐Ping Yang, Jia-Heng Ni, Liang Bin +3 more

In recent years, cat-state encoding and high-dimensional entanglement have attracted much attention. However, previous works are limited to generation of entangled states of cat-state qubits (two-dimensional entanglement with cat-state encoding), while how to prepare entangled states of cat-state qutrits or qudits (high-dimensional entanglement with cat-state encoding) has not been investigated. We here propose to generate a maximally-entangled state of multiple cat-state qutrits (three-dimensional entanglement by cat-state encoding) in circuit QED. The entangled state is prepared with multiple microwave cavities coupled to a superconducting flux ququart (a four-level quantum system). This proposal operates essentially by the cavity-qutrit dispersive interaction. The circuit hardware resource is minimized because only a coupler ququart is employed. The higher intermediate level of the ququart is occupied only for a short time, thereby decoherence from this level is greatly suppressed during the state preparation. Remarkably, the state preparation time does not depend on the number of the qutrits, thus it does not increase with the number of the qutrits. As an example, our numerical simulations demonstrate that, with the present circuit QED technology, the high-fidelity preparation is feasible for a maximally-entangled state of two cat-state qutrits. Furthermore, we numerically analyze the effect of the inter-cavity crosstalk on the scalability of this proposal. This proposal is universal and can be extended to accomplish the same task with multiple microwave or optical cavities coupled to a natural or artificial four-level atom.

Preparation of hybrid W entangled states between superconducting qubits and microwave resonators in circuit QED

Jia-Heng Ni, Dong-Xuan Zhang, Wang-Chu Lv +4 more

Hybrid W entangled states are essential in quantum information processing, quantum communication, and quantum technology. In this Letter, we propose a simple method to prepare hybrid W entangled states between n superconducting (SC) qubits and n microwave resonators (MRs) in circuit QED. Only two basic operations are needed for the preparation of hybrid W states. The operational time decreases as the number of qubits increases. Since no ancillary cavity is required, the hardware resources for the state preparation are minimized. Because the state preparation does not involve any measurements, the hybrid W entangled states are generated in a deterministic way. Moreover, during the entire preparation, the high-energy levels of the SC qutrits remain unexcited, which greatly reduces decoherence of the SC qutrits. As an example, our numerical simulation demonstrates that high-fidelity preparation of the hybrid W entangled state of three SC qubits and three MRs is feasible within the current circuit QED technique. This method is universal and can be applied to generate hybrid W states of n matter qubits (e.g., atomic qubits, NV center qubits, quantum dot qubits, and magnon qubits) and n photonic qubits in various physical systems.
