Abstract

We present a study of the quantum properties of two light fields used in parametric four-wave mixing in a Raman-type atomic system. The system realizes an effective Hamiltonian of beam-splitter-type coupling between the light fields, which allows one to control squeezing and amplitude distribution of the light fields, as well as realizing their entanglement. The scheme can be feasibly applied to engineer the quantum properties of two single-mode light fields in properly chosen input states.

Quantum beats and wave mixing interactions in Raman systems: multimode squeezed and entangled states

Xing Li, Xiangming Hu

We describe the effects of Raman interactions on the quantum correlations of multimode optical fields. It is shown that both quantum beats and four-wave mixing processes exist in the Raman interactions of multimode fields with atomic reservoirs. These two mechanisms combine to lead to emission in pairs into multiple cavity modes. For four fields taken as examples, we find that the four-mode squeezed state can be created at steady state. From this we can obtain the Greenberger–Horne–Zeilinger entangled state, and the linear and square cluster entangled states. This scheme does not need the preparation of the initial states of atoms and cavity modes, and is robust against atomic spontaneous decay.

Enhancement of entanglement for two-mode fields generated from four-wave mixing with the help of the auxiliary atomic transition

Gao‐xiang Li, Hua-Tang Tan, Mihai Macovei

The entanglement properties of two mode fields generated from four-wave mixing are discussed in the system of an ensemble of $V$-type three-level atoms embedded in a two-mode cavity, in which the atomic transitions from the two excited states to the ground state are driven by one strong and one relative weak laser field, respectively. The nondegenerate four-wave mixing process occurs in the strong laser-driven transition, which is also coupled by the two cavity modes. With the help of the auxiliary atomic transition driven by the weak laser field and adjusting the frequency difference of the two modes, highly squeezed and entangled light with high intensity can be generated.

Continuous-variable entanglement and two-mode squeezing in a single-atom Raman laser

Eyob Alebachew Sete, C. H. Raymond Ooi

The quantum statistical properties of light emitted by a two-photon double Raman laser is investigated. Using the master equation derived in the good-cavity limit, we study the squeezing and entanglement properties of the cavity field. It turns out that the cavity radiation exhibits two-mode squeezing and entanglement in the transient as well as steady state regime for realizable parameters. We establish a connection between two-mode squeezing and entanglement that gives insight into the physical origin of these quantum features. We also discuss the interplay between the laser detuning and amplitude in modifying the properties of the cavity field.

Experimental realization of a feedback optical parametric amplifier with four-wave mixing

Xiaozhou Pan, Hui Chen, Tianxiang Wei +5 more

Optical parametric amplifiers (OPAs) play a fundamental role in the generation of quantum correlation for quantum information processing and quantum metrology. In order to increase the communication fidelity of the quantum information protocol and the measurement precision of quantum metrology, it requires a high degree of quantum correlation. In this Rapid Communication we report a feedback optical parametric amplifier that employs a four-wave mixing (FWM) process as the underlying OPA and a beam splitter as the feedback controller. We first construct a theoretical model for this feedback-based FWM process and experimentally study the effect of the feedback control on the quantum properties of the system. Specifically, we find that the quantum correlation between the output fields can be enhanced by tuning the strength of the feedback.

Entanglement of three-mode light via six-wave mixing in a four-level Y-type atomic system

Wenxing Shi, Xiangming Hu, Jingyan Li +1 more

In this paper, we show that it is possible to achieve continuous-variable entanglement of three optical fields in a four-level Y-type atomic system. The three fields are amplified through the Rabi resonances of the different driven transitions. Two fields from the V configuration are in one quantum beat and in the mixing parametric interactions with the third field from the lower transition. This yields entanglement between the pair of beat modes and the third field. The best achievable state in the output approaches the Einstein–Podolsky–Rosen entangled state.
